Oh Ethan, never change 😀

Guarantee these things would work better in real life than Tim thinks.

Depends on the quality of the plastic. Most home 3d printer plastic i’ve dealt with is actually rather brittle so it probably would crunch that easily.

Also, each and every one of those caltrops would need their supports/sidewalks removed. Given the thought that Ethan is rather clumsy, he’d probably weaken them further while crudely cutting those supports off.

If they were pointy, they would probably pierce into your shoe and be annoying. But with that head I think they’d probably break at weird points…

I think I need to make these files and actually print them to see how they work.

I’m not sure exactly what material they’re using (ABS wouldn’t crunch under Lucas’s weight, but PLA filament wouldn’t really burn Ethan unless he touched the nozzle), but if your shoes have solid soles you’re laughing either way, even if the caltrops weren’t blunted. Granted, if you’re barefoot or have cardboard-thin soles, then yes, they’d work, as anyone who’s ever stepped on a lego can attest. And it doesn’t matter if you can see them, because a) you can throw them right under them, and b) going around them or picking your way through WOULD slow you down. I feel that… Read more »

How is it that everyone assumed I think the caltrops would pierce? Of course they won’t. My point is the balance issues it creates. Try running across a few pebbles scattered on a flat surface. Actually, don’t. It’s a bad idea.

Hm, you should add a metal-printing printer… in this future, it seems likely that there would be a commercially-availible metal-printing printer by now.

Well, there goes 50 bucks, Ethan. But nowadays that just like one game, so no biggie.^^

You mean 1/2 a game, right. No publisher sells the full game for $50 bucks anymore.

Yeah, you’re right. Was thinking of good old times. Though in the real old times new games were even cheaper than $50.

Uh…
3DS games are usually under 50.
Most games are around 50 or below.
Not to mention OODLES of Mobile and Flash games (which are smaller but a good amount are worth mentioning) that are a few bucks or free.
Unless you meant that the game is under 50$ (it sounded like you were saying that games are average 100$) then you are remarkably incorrect

he was referring to real games. flash/mobile games do not count to average person and other than odd Nintendo game the market average is 80-120 for a game at release, way more for countries like Aus, even when converted back to USD

Or ooh Osmium alloy! That’s always fun!

I laughed out loud at this one. I hope that he -does- find a way to foil some enemy using this.

The phrasing here made me wonder: does Ethan owe Scott personally? Meaning, is Scott somehow a financial benefactor of this crime-fighting duo? Or does it mean that they’re funding their escapades using the funds from the game store, and as bookkeeper, Ethan would owe Scott $50?

Game stores generally struggle to stay aloft, and these guys have pretty steep competition down the street. I could see them crime-fight their way out of business. Now, THAT would be dark.

Oh, Scott probably is selling like 20 alternative core apps and is also responsible for making a whole bunch of stuff that funds the entire store. Remember, Scott is a pro coder and/or hacker. Odds are he is making money in ways that Lucas doesn’t know about and Ethan can’t pronounce. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lucas has made a few games that are making a nice amount of income. (Technically he could have gotten to work at several major game companies since Ethan did using a copied resume, so he definitely has some serious skill) Oh the… Read more »

I come here for everything but the Ethan and Lucas reboot. I can’t say why it doesn’t interest me, but it doesn’t.
Love the other arcs though. Space adventures, players 1-4, console wars etc. I do appreciate the work you put into the comic Tim. Keep it up!

Caltrops with razor blades makes more sense. Making them out of analog sticks works I guess, but I’d rather use gamecube C-sticks for grenades.

Man I really like these more grounded, slice-of-life side-stories. They really help flesh out the characters and their lives.
