There’s no way Cort can stay out of this whole business. He’s the protagonist, after all. Those other Starcaster wielders must die … from a storytelling perspective.
Cort doesn’t need plot armor. The point is, the other Starcasters stand in the way of him fulfilling his role as the protagonist of the story. As long as they are able to contain the threat, Cort can maintain the strategy to evade direct involvement, and there’s little progress in the story. Once that the Federation Starcasters are neutralized (in whatever way), Cort can no longer evade the moral obligation to position himself – to either join the fight against the extraterrestrial jihadists, or, by staying passive, to objectively help them. He may well decide to join the fight if… Read more »
Tim said that this is not the Cort story. It is the Starcaster story. Cort is NOT needed.

Oh man that sure does look like a desolate rock behind them. I wondered if she would detect his training. I hope they decide to work with the fed, atleast partly, before the fleet jumps in. Gives more credibility.
The yellow thing is way too dim to be a star, that’s a gas giant and the desolate rock orbiting it looks a lot like Cort’s camp. Same color, similar mountains, seemingly even the same oxygen atmosphere. She’s mistaking Cort’s training for a Dranglaex attack.
By its color it’s a star. Gas giants large enough to glow are very red (starting from IR). Yellow glowy things need to be much larger than that, and aren’t classified as planets.
Whats more likely is that the starcasters are all moderately different. I cant imagine objects as incredibly powerful as those are not custom made each time- even if they’re working off of the same fundamental ideas.

I have a problem with the perspective in panel 1. That yellow orb looks like it’s the primary star for the system, considering what parts of the planet are illuminated by it, and that it’s a main sequence color (not a red dwarf). The star looks MUCH too small considering it’s in the foreground. Even with a true telecentric perspective, the planet has just half the diameter of the star. Even if the star were a tiny low mass star, the planet would still be MASSIVE, much too large to be a rocky planet, and large enough to be a… Read more »
So? Is it meant to be unrealistic? Any deviation from realism strains willing suspension of disbelief. Unless there is a good reason to do otherwise, it’s best to keep it realistic.
The planet behind it is illuminated by it. If it was a gas giant, it would only emit a very dim light, most would be reflected from a star. So the star in the system would need to be in the foreground (behind the spectator viewpoint).
But then, it would also cast a shadow and we would see this shadow on the rocky planet behind it.
If it’s a luminous gas giant, the point still stands: it’s large, and the planet behind it is still much too large to be a rocky planet.

Uh oh… Even though Cort decided to work with the alliance, it seems they already detected his Starcaster going off and a battle group (not the one Cort contacted) is moving in to investigate.
Cort will think that they’re here to talk, and they’ll think he’s here to fight.

is she looking for objects in space by VISION?
the fleet might not even be TRYING to hide from her!
“Space is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space.”
And if she accidentally grabbed her peril-sensitive sunglasses on the way out instead of her normal eyewear, she definitely won’t see them! 😉
Nothing beyond a comment by Speck a long time ago that said there were 6, and the other 2 are either lost or under some other power/group’s control. But I believe he was cut off in that conversation and that we never actually heard details about the other 2. It was a while ago, I may be slightly off in my description.
I’d say its almost certain that they’re all unique. We’re not likely to encounter any not already mentioned by the story, and I’m fairly certain we’ve at this point, seen all 4. What might be interesting if their capabilities are all different, and if so, if that manifests meaningfully on the story.

If you can’t take off a starcaster it sucks for her that she put it over her sleeve
For some reason my Ackbar sense is tingling..
Had the same thought.

Unless this has all been a long con and Cort has zero plot armor.

looking at issue 7 page 20… you might actually be right
Nyrah says it’s a moon, so it orbits another planet. We don’t see a planet with a moon here.

god i hope not… but that would put cort right into the position he needs to be in to become what he could possibly be.

Maybe its a rocky planet covered in lava.
I don’t see a glow, only an upper atmosphere above a thick yellow cloud.
Yep, a lot like the one on page 1 and 2 (11-01 and 11-02).
Admiral Ackbar, any thoughts?
“It’s an elaborate ruse!”
Sure she is not sensing our outlawed friends…
This character really gives me Cpt. Marvel vibes. Flying through space without suit, golden aura…
I was thinking more Nova, but with a fancy bracelet instead of a fancy helmet.
It might be how she’s using it, but she seems significantly better at controlling her star caster than the Dranglaex Prince is.

Simple: gas giant, not a star. Otherwise, the glare would over-powering and it would be better to wear a blackened visor, star-caster or no.
Wrong color. Gas giants aren’t yellow.
You arent the first one to say that here but dont forget, its a comic, not the real world.

Saturn is a yellow gas giant.
The planet behind it is illuminated by it. If it was a gas giant, it would only emit a very dim light, most would be reflected from a star. So the star in the system would need to be in the foreground (behind the spectator viewpoint).

whole fleet could be just a few hundred kilometers away and she wouldn’t even know because they’d just look like background stars.
More like looking by “starcaster sensing” I would say…
Uh…how ’bout “no.”
Of the three we’ve seen, none are very similar. I wonder if they’re all unique – and what would happen to someone that wore more than one!
We’ve actually seen four: Cort’s, Vectanix’s, Danton’s, and La’ni’s.
Have we heard mention of any more beyond the 4?

The Starcaster will only bond to bare skin:

probably the sleeve is just cut off just below the starcaster
