Not good.

That anger and resolve on Zeke’s face, though, quite impressive and understandable I will say.

A question I’ve wondered for a long time but never asked…is Zeke pronounced Zeek or Zeekee?

Technically their name is ZK, pronounced “zee kay” but Ethan had trouble with it and said Zeke (Prnounced as “zeek”) and ZK said this was acceptable

Ethan sacrifices himself to save scott, showing zeke there’s still something he doesn’t understand about empathy and forgiveness.

I can’t quite agree. Note that ZK didn’t rush at Scott personally but sent one of the minions instead (I’d say the easiest way to tell the minions apart from ZK is their number of “eyes”). To me this indicates a certain level of restraint. If ZK was overwhelmed by pure rage at the sight of Scott, I’d expect them to do the job personally, just for the satisfaction of it. Whether ZK wishes to kidnap and lock the guys up (ironic vengeance for keeping them locked up before) or something else – I can’t say. But it seems like… Read more »

To add to the ‘no killing Scott: If Zeke wants to ‘disable’ a danger here (Scott), they might even be smart enough to set their anger aside. Scott has legitimate reasons to fear Zeke outside of it being a murder bot. Even if Zeke is alive and not murdering anymore, companies, governments and (super) villains want to control/copy him for their own gains. If Zeke can set their anger aside, and thereby showing they are the better ‘person’, Scott might aid Zeke in protection instead of searching destruction. Killing or harming Scott would also set Ethan and Lucas squarely against… Read more »

Of all people it’s pretty safe to say that Scott is last on the list of possible allies for Zeke

An interesting possible future:

Ethan and Zeke become neutral and Scott isn’t dead. As a result, when the enemies that have wanting Zeke’s army succeed, Zeke could need their help (and he them’s) for the good of the world (and anyone in it of any construction).

And I would say “you’re thinking like a human” 🙂
I would expect that for ZK all those commandeered drones are natural appendages like fingers of your hand are for you. They don’t think about moving drones consciously – they just do it. Just grab with the closest one.

How many will think Zeke is going to kill Scott, and that Ethan will sacrifice himself? And then everything will be resolved with a neat bow, as Zeke learns x and Ethan will respawn? Have people forgotten how the last arc ended, where in the climax Zeke opted to run instead of kill Scott? Sure Zeke can have changed their opinion, but they’ll have to explain that change of character first. Zeke was shown to be better by running instead of killing though. Not to mention it doesn’t solve Zeke’s problems at all. Ethan sacrificing (and respawning) doesn’t make the… Read more »

I interpreted it as “They were just heavily damaged and in a panic, so they ran.” Not a matter of Not a Murder both, just Self-preservation Takes Priority.

I would argue against that. Yes Zeke ran for self preservation, but not out of panic. Initially Zeke was afraid and angry, trying to kill Scott and anyone who got in his way would get hurt as well. Ethan got seriously hurt, and this prompted Zeke to stop, reconsidering their position. They remembered that dying hurts for Ethan every time, and the fears related to his death, or possible incapability of death, bridging the gap between Zeke’s own fear and pain. Zeke then saw Scott doing something on his phone. Zeke now had one of the best opportunities to slay… Read more »

ZK probably still assumes Scott can respawn. If Scott actually Can, I don’t see how that “sacrifice” would do much to influence ZK. We, the audience would see this as very heroic, but ZK would just see an example of what Scott volunteered to do nightly.

There would have to be limits, such as range from him, and familiarity. Would be a neat little ability! It’s also possible that he’s had it all along, but since there’s no one else who has died, he’s never been able to test this.

Robfather

Interesting that Scott stopped.

He could have just run Zeke into the wall instead.

  1. Could be too many variables on what the other bots might do?
  2. Could be a self preservation?
  3. Could be that even after everything he’s said and done, “killing” Zeke would wrong?

Thinking of 1.0 Scott makes me lean towards 2, but I don’t like letting the bias of the old universe taint my thoughts on A+D.

Or Scott didn’t want to endanger his friend, who was clearly in the path of the car? Or maybe it is instinct, where most people have trouble actually committing to extreme acts of violence, like running over humanoid shapes with a car? Or it is part of Scott’s promise to help Ethan with Zeke, so instead of crushing the robot at the first opportunity, he tries to save Ethan instead? Or maybe because Scott is currently single minded in saving Ethan, in contrast to killing Zeke? It is his goal to save Ethan here, and in such scenarios it is… Read more »

Ethan was surrounded by the ZK droids, which meant Scott couldn’t run them down without also hitting Ethan. At best, he might have angled the car *just* right to clip a single one of them, but that kind of vehicle maneuvering in a tight ally is tricky, and would put Ethan at risk.

So he went for the fakeout, trying to get them all to jump back.

Why does this question does pop up so much?

Simply typing “how can a paraplegic drive a car” into google answers it in all possible detail? Is getting real information from the web a dieing skill?

Or are we at a point where people ony “know stuff” they’ve been fed by TikTok.

Sorry Ana, not especially ranting at you, but I see this trend everywhere. I can’t count the times I had to correct bullshit my adopted daughter got from TikTok…

Perhaps the better question: for a comic that gets pretty deep into depicting how the characters use technology, when will we get a closer look at the specific adaptations that Scott is using? Unless I missed something in an earlier comic, the closest that we’ve seen so far has been from page #3 in this arc: There’s some type of large screen in the center console There’s nothing obvious mounted to the steering wheel itself Scott has been shown gripping the wheel one-handed with his right hand Scott’s left hand has been tucked away in a position that might suggest… Read more »

It is a legitimate question if you’ve never been in contact with that particular world. There are several whole fields dedicated to adapting the world to the needs of the (disabled) individual. You can drive cars by hand, (nearly) blind people can ice skate at a high level, extremely short people can reach the top drawers in the kitchen, too fat people can sit in a wheelchair, and people with locked in syndrome can type novels with just their eyes. We adapt the world to people, not people to the world. If you give it some thought, many solutions become… Read more »

It is a legitimate question, but the issue is that it seems like the days of “try to research it/figure it out on your own before asking” are gone. Ana could have typed that question into a search engine and gotten an immediate answer.

Which… is fine, for the most part. Just kind of exhausting.

It is a legitimate question that popped in the past 11 pages of this comic, so it loses credibility as a good faith question as the comic progresses.

Unless: hello new reader, you might wanna catch up on this storyline from at least a few pages back, I swear it’s worth it!

I run into this all the time. I’ll find myself wondering something, or asking something, and then realize I’m at my computer, or I have my phone, and I can just look it up. Why do people do things like this? That’s a good question. Maybe we should look it up? Okay, joking aside, I think the answer is ironically sorta relevant to this arc. For me at least, even if logically it would be faster and easier to just google stuff, if possible, I prefer to get the answer from a real person. One human being sharing their knowledge… Read more »

I believe the percentage of people who engage with internet comments is actually usually quite small compared to general readership. I feel like I heard it was only ~3% once, sonewhere. It could be someone very young. I was also confused — as a very small child, maybe 5 or 6 (years before the internet) — how the wheelchair people were driving, after noticing the handicapped parking signs (that’s what they called them way back then). People have been getting mentally younger and dumber for decades, so while it’s annoying to see repeated, it’s not entirely surprising. Or they’re just… Read more »

I could go with your explanation the first … maybe 3 comics where Scott is driving. But if people keep seeing him drive, even if they don’t normally read comments, maybe they’d think their question would be asked and answered below. But why would they ask so far into the story where we’ve already seen Scott at the wheel multiple times?

Woah, wasn’t expecting so many replies to this comment. And yeah, it was a lot of text, partly ’cause I wrote it late at night and I tend to get rambly and write things as I think of them. Anyway, to reply to the responses: No, I’m not saying people can’t research things they don’t already know. I’m saying people can’t research things if they don’t know there’s something there to research. This might not have come across clearly, but this point applies to this circumstance, not every instance where someone asks a question they could just look up. To… Read more »

Not saying it is always true, but sometimes I want an opinion for someone that I may have listened to before or in part of the community I regularly engage with vs. just whatever a search engine spits out. It’s not like everything there isn’t bias in the search results and/or blatant inaccuracies. Maybe just asking someone within in a community might provide information that it might be better, because it might be hard to know how good your answer is from google. I found when I worked regularly as a software developer on big projects, I could look for… Read more »

Unless ZK knows Ethan may not have his powers, any sacrifice on Ethan’s part will only matter if Ethan doesn’t respawn.

Which would be an interesting path to pursue from ZK’s point of view as he comes to terms with the reality as he tries to save Ethan’s life and restoring him, thereby forcing Scott to reevaluate his view of ZK.

That’s the only way I can really see this playing out; Ethan getting a life threatening injury, and Scott divulging that Ethan may no longer be able to respawn, forcing them to work together to try to save Ethan and allowing Zeke to realize what Ethan’s friendship really means to them.

However Tim often and impressively takes the story in directions I don’t expect, so we’ll see; I’m excited to find out what happens!
