Im guessing Quel isnt on the same ship as Cort anymore, also La’ni must not be either tho she will hopefully enter this battle soon.

Why wouldn’t he be on the same ship? Quel, Cort and La’Ni were all on the Aldoricut last time we saw them. It doesn’t seem like much time has passed since, and there’s no real reason for that to change until after the discussion what the Federation wants to do with them (aka this conversation).

Note that neither of these people are in the battle of the previous pages. The Vicen here (presumably) isn’t under direct attack. They just dropped the call with Quel because they just got word of what’s happening with their other Starcaster.

I think they are with the people confused from the last few comics, not knowing what ship is under attack. Some (many?) seem to assume the ship under attack is Cort’s ship, including La’ni and Quel. The Quel like person reinforces this. So they assume that La’ni will go out and fight, and Cort maybe as well. Quel now being here makes some realise that they are different ships, but others still think the ship of Cort and La’ni is being attacked. All should revolve directly around the protagonist, right? I think with the long times in between comics it… Read more »

I have had a hunch about this since the end of the last issue.

We’ve not seen any reaction shots of Cort & the gang since this attack started. And I would hope that Quel remembers what happened the last time he trusted ‘proper channels’ within the Federation.

My pet theory is that Quel lied about which ship Cort is on, and the Drang’laex are attacking the wrong vessel.

I’m a bit confused what that theory is supposed to be. Did you perhaps miss the end of last chapter, where Danton’s ship actually got attacked? (Or the earlier page from that chapter that mentioned how Danton was out hunting?) You seem to be imagining some grand multi-level scheme where Dranglaex spies learned about Cort, Quel knew about the spies, deliberately gave them (and everyone else?) wrong info, all of which ultimately resulting in the Dranglaex now attacking a different vessel than the one they intended. I see two big problems with that theory: -Even if we assume Quel somehow… Read more »

The answer is much more easy. The guy who blew himself up on the bridge was the one notifying the Drang’laex about the ship he was on had a starcaster and was alone. This sparked the Drang’laex to speed towards the ship to take it, as we see towards the last issue. Quel is very much portrayed as a good guy, without any ties to the Drang’laex. There is no reason for him to lie, nor any opportunity to. La’ni and many other officers have seen and verified both La’ni and Cort with a starcaster. Only Major Danton was alone… Read more »

That doesn’t sound to me like Ben thinks Quel lied because he’s working with the Drang’laex. It sounds like he thinks he lied because he’s realized the FEDERATION, or at least enough people in it that regular channels can’t be trusted, are working with the Drang’laex. Which would be why, in Ben’s theory, they’re attacking the wrong ship. Because their mole was lied to.

Then why give up a starcaster? And again, it would be tactically unfeasible, as too many can disprove any of Quels tactical lies with ease.

I was a little confused, but “Quel” from the last pages apparently wasn’t Quel at all. Just another individual from this species.

You can tell the difference by the badge and the markings on his head.

I suppose it could be the light, but their skin tones also seem different. Quel is bit more vibrant / orange compared to the other guy.

They’re going to cut back and say “You know how we were winning 3 to 1 with superweapons yesterday? We’re back to 2 v 2. Cort’s going with the infantry, end of discussion”
