Yea… I don’t agree. Lucas himself has destroyed an entire street and sewer system. Ethan has left oil and glue bombs everywhere, destroyed property with his grappling hook, and even trapped an innocent civilian causing major distress. The duo also completely disabled a cargo ship, and possibly ruined countless electronics on board. Many of which could have been important medical equipment. And then there is the whole “threw a guy off of a roof” thing I can’t see why anyone in the general public would believe that this duo is “one of the good ones”. Even if you KNOW they… Read more »
You’re forgetting the first part of the “threw the guy off a roof thing” where they saved the three people that guy was trying to kill. In a city where a160 foot tentacle kaiju is considered a traffic disturbance, I think these guys are fine.
They have saved lives. They have caught criminals, including one that had eluded both super and non-super law enforcement for years.
You had some valid arguments on why they might be disliked regardless, but then lost all credibility when refusing to even consider the possibility of counterarguments.
If you are free = If you are not patroling your neighbourhood…maybe?
Seem like he knows, but as other are saying, waiting to Lucas to tell it, for respect

I’m pretty sure he knows.
BUT, he also knows that Lucas risked revealing his secret identity to him to save an innocent life, which showed Ben exactly what kind of superhero Lucas is. And probably that the secret identity vs. cop thing is probably why Lucas was acting so weird about it earlier.
Which is why he’s playing it off as if he doesn’t know.

I mean if he does know, he may just be giving himself plausible deniability. I suspect that he only suspects and is actively trying to not jump to conclusions.
This! A lot of people here are tossing around the word “know” as if Ben could have certainty. I too think Ben suspects, but there’s no way he could know for sure.

Well Lucas, if you didn’t keep interrupting him, maybe you’d have more of a clue.

What if Ben is like Jim Gordon archetype and he works with one of the other heroes? They show up at their meetup and try to recruit him to get registered.
I mean if he went down that path, it would either pull Ethan into some risk again or put a wedge between them for a time.

I think Lucas should tell him. While there are anti-vigilante laws, there are often also stand-your-ground, citizen arrest, good Samaritan arguments which could be made for all the actions we’ve seen them take in the comic. Ethan may go through a significant amount of turmoil due to the Troll stuff, but he’s already kinda said he’s aware and accepts that. I’m very much in agreement with Ethan’s “not having lives to turn upside down” line of thought. Kinda reminds me of Westerns and the whole pacifist taking up arms because they were opposed to violence because they wanted to live… Read more »
Missing Pieces, p21 ( https://cad-comic.com/comic/missing-pieces-p21/ ) That looks like a man who would, at the very least, have some suspicions by now. BUT! Certainty is a rare luxury in nearly all aspects of life. Lucas’ mistake is the binary assumption that Ben KNOWS or DOESN’T KNOW, not somewhere in between just like him. Seeing a lot of comments saying Ben knows and is being cool, which I agree is likely. But it’s worth considering that Ben maybe just doesn’t wanna push a conversation based on something Lukas is playing off as a coincidence (demonstrating trust in his partner). Ben could… Read more »
It definitely looks in that strip as if he absolutely drew a connection between the outstretched hand and the arrow saving the girl. But like you say, certainty is hard to come by, and it was a fleeting moment and as far as I know the arrows don’t spawn out of his hand so realistically suddenly accusing your new boyfriend or being an unregistered super based SOLELY on that split second thing would be really reckless
Then we don’t know if he would actually care, or if he’d support keeping the identity secret.

We need to see him interact with Lucas in Costume. I would love to see a more dramatic setup, where in a battle or something, lucas gets unmasked. The more dramatic the setup, the better.

When I read the comic, it feels to me like Lucas is struggling with his second coming out. Not being able to own who you are and having to be afraid of how people you like/love will react… And then there are the legal consequences. (Although fortunately, in many countries the legal consequences for being gay no longer exist, at least not for a few decades).
I suspect that Ben is a clever cop and knows what happened. And gives Lucas time to come to terms with himself.

I bet he doesn’t know, he said “flash of light”. Had he seen the arrow, he probably would said “That Arrow”.

I was expecting Lucas to try to tell him, and Ben to stop him. For plausible deniability. “I’m relieved you want to tell me something, but I can’t hear it. Understand? But thank you.”
This is good too though. for us, not for Lucas. We get suspense.
Ah, the oblivious ball is being held by Lucas today.
He doesn’t seem to know, and if he does know he is playing it cool. So there is no reason for him to worry.
It’s just the right amount of “cool” to not know if he should be coming out. No pun intended but once it was there, it was there.
Oh, he knows. He is just respecting your privacy and waiting for you to tell the truth on your own time. That’s because Ben is a great guy.
God I hope so…
His DnD class.
I know he knows, and I think it’s adorable.
Meanwhile, I bet Tim is gleefully giggling at us trying to figure out the truth. 😅
OR Ben is now undercover to try and ferret out any other unregistered vigilantes Lucas knows!
CHECK FOR A WIRE LUCAS!
YES STRIP THE GUY DOWN for wires
Intrusive thought, what if Ben isn’t and he’s an evil villian and and and omg I can’t breathe
Ok, head canon – *everyone* knows. At least everyone in the police. They just also know that these are one of the good ones, so pretend ignorance.

that’s not a reason to support vigilantes anyway
