I’m really enjoying surviving on Arrakis. I’m also incredibly impressed by the sheer determination and ingenuity of some players to find ways to inflict grief in the absence of direct PVP.
Building bases in chokepoints to prevent vehicle traversal. Building bases around precious resources/water. Drive your buggy up to someone’s door and remove one of the wheels, can’t get in and out of that door, now. Need to park your ornithopter to scout for resources? Better hope someone doesn’t pop out from behind a rock, claim the land under it and then build a structure around your expensive toy, trapping it inside forever.
Absolutely impressive levels of architecture-based warfare.
That sounds absolutely stupid. I was on the fence after seeing a few trailers, but that helps make the decision.
My rule of thumb for me is if other players have any capacity whatsoever to be an asshole and if you do not have absolute 100% total control over who you might run into, I just don’t play it because one in ten people online if not more tend to be like this.
Yep some a…hole also blocked my favorite aluminium farm route with a building the other day … luckily he was gone after 2 days.
You know, that your favourite whatever route is poof out of existence at the next Coriolis storm? All resources (except water) is randomized. I had an iron and power cell node next to my base. One week later it’s just one granite and nothing else 😀
You know you can store your vehicles in the vehicle backup tool, right ?
Not if they are loaded with a ton of resources.
Also not if it’s anything larger than a Sandbike
You can store the scout orni too.
aaaand I’m out.
I play for fun and relaxation. I meet enough assholes in real life, thank you very much.
This is 100% of the reason I don’t play MMORPGs. I have considered, so many times, Read Dead Online or GTA Online. Really love those games. (Esp. with my new killer machine.) But… people. Ooof. Also, I had a friend at work who left almost every day, promptly at 5pm. “Where are you going?” “WoW raid tonight.” I do NOT want that kind of obligation. I like to open a game, be able to shut it down immediately if something comes up. (I also lean away from games where you have to get to a “save point”. GTA is like… Read more »
Those games aren’t MMORPGs
same. why i avoid the online scene
War, wat never changes
Yeah, that’s basically the reason I don’t play multiplayer games at all – the other players. 😉
I’m with the non-buyers; I don’t want to have to carefully find a path through the game to avoid all the schoolyard bullies actively trying to ruin everyone’s enjoyment.
I’ve personally run into none of this.
Same here… it’s very isolated incidents. It is far from being a rampant issue.
I’ve run into in minor ways. Never had a time where I couldn’t get somewhere though. Just had to go around.
“Schoolyard bullies”. That is the most apt description I’ve heard for this. And it’s 100% accurate.
Begone, Fortnite; you have been bested!
Those people should be IP banned
Yet more reasons to not play more Funcom garbage. That’s it. No more notes.
It’s not Funcom, it’s just humanity as always being a massive asshole and getting kicks out of causing suffering to other people. Crap like this has been around since the OG days of WoW, nothing new.
As someone else already said, the number one thing that ruins any multiplayer game is other people.
The couple times I’ve encountered this, its been more of an annoyance than anything genuinely obstructive. Thankfully I have yet to encounter the vehicle tread removal griefing, but that seems easy enough to counter with the full-refund structure demolition. Turn door into wall and move door one panel over.
Saw that behavior with a 1800s survival sandbox game called Heat. Never fails to astound the lengths some people will go to in order to compensate for how pathetic they think themselves to be.
I hate cliffhangers. Wonder what will happen next.
This might be the last deciding factor for me. I can’t stand games that let people do this.
sounds like hell
Man people are having a visceral reaction to this. I’ll admit I was irritated when someone built across the ramp to the anvil, but to refuse to play an otherwise fun game?
I am gonna guess that most of the ones who refuse to entertain griefers are the ones who can only play for limited amounts of time. Like parents, people with full time jobs, etc… They don’t have endless amounts of time to be dealing with other players being able to troll them in such time consuming ways. They’d rather spend their time with something else that’ll bring them more joy in the limited time they have playing.
I don’t know much about this game, but it sounds like it’s got potential, and just needs an anti-griefing mechanism in place, even if it’s something as simple as a forced refresh of current builds in the world from other players. I remember having to deal with players on Elden Ring, for example, who placed their messages on the bottoms on Ladders, or on Sites of Grace, so every time you tried to use them, you could only click on the message. In some cases, they were glitched so you couldn’t swap through options to actually use the other things,… Read more »
aah the same annoying mechanic as ark and why i stopped playing that.
