This might be my oldest’s first survival game. I guess I’m not sure why I expected practical survival instincts from a creature who has never really had to be concerned with their own survival. At his age I certainly don’t recall food and shelter and warmth being something I had to think about… they were just always there because my parents made sure of it. Or maybe my presence in a survival game just atrophies those instincts, letting him fall into our typical patterns where I make sure we stay alive, and he enjoys being a kid.
Perhaps I’m doing him a disservice. Perhaps I should just let him starve.
In the game, obviously.
But, still… don’t tell his mom.
My mother taught me once, that i can do anything i want. As long as i am not busted doing it.
So don’t worry, i am not telling your wife. đŸ˜‰
Don’t worry, he will be the one that will go to your wife saying you let him die…
Mooooom, i’m starving !
But we just had dinner an hour ago ?
Nooo, not that, in the game, dad doesnt give me food!
This is his first survival game? Not Minecraft?
…I’m genuinely shocked in this day and age.
A lot of kids don’t actually play survival mode in Minecraft, or set the difficulty down so they can’t starve.
Source: Have many kids. That play Minecraft.
He may have dabbled with MC Survival, but I most of the time I watched him play he was in creative. Perhaps if he went back to Minecraft now that he’s older, the survival mode would appeal to him.
Yeah same both my kids prefer creative
Ah, the pain of being a gamer Father with kids today, but at least he gathered items. I played MC with my son, and it was his idea, I don’t even like MC. I went a gathering only to come back to him digging a hole under our house to depths unknown. I then hear, “Dad, did you know the monsters aren’t really gone, they just hide in the dark areas, can you come get me?” I did not know they just hid in the dark and I did not go get him.
I find myself doing creative stuff more often than not. Back in the day, I used to do this with Legos. Now it’s all digital stuff. đŸ˜…
Replace his chair…. with the red one. }:)
Let them learn in a hard way.
Maybe survival games are just not his forte. Maybe he enjoys strategy or card games or rpgs where he can unleash massive combos upon his enemies. Who knows. Life is long and there are more games to play than we got hours in our lifetimes. He’ll come around.^^
Roger that. I’m 47 and totally hate survival games. Resource gathering and micromanagement are not my idea of a relaxing time.
Yeah, Subnautica is about my level of “survival” game. The hardcore ones are not for me.
The only solution is obviously to drive him out to the woods and leave him for a few days.
*In the game, of course! xD
Though I guess the meme of ‘in Minecraft*’ would actually fit in this case.
I absolutely loved Abiotic Factor. Took me a loooong time to finish it, it’s such a huge game. Especially once you exit the Office sector.
Loved it too.
So much I Collected all the figurines/bobbleheads/photo’s/paintings/tv’s/rare fish after getting all the achievements, just so I could play it a little longer đŸ˜›
Come on, everyone collects all the TV’s eventually đŸ˜›
i find it helps to give him direct and clear instructions on something to do that will help you.
Something like “I want to build a new storage crate, can you go out, break some furniture, and bring me the wooden planks they drop? About 20 should do, but more is always better.”
You should send your son through the portal in Silo 2 and make him fight an exor monk. Telle him not to come back without its heart. Then make him cook it and eat it. That will show him.
or, put him in front of your vegetables plants and tell him to make sure they to pour some water onto them when the red light flashes on. and harvest the vegetables and put them into the fridge.
Lmao, that’s the modern generation for you.
My kid and I are playing Grounded 2, and I’m happy she’s all in for the planning & scavenging as much as I am. We’re building a big castle on the snack bar platform.
