Door Number Two

September 12, 2025 by Tim

What can I say, I enjoy a good mid-afternoon nap. I don’t ever really get them, and I don’t get particularly tired mid-day, but there’s just something about an afternoon off that makes a nap irresistible. Almost without fail, every time I arrange my schedule so that I can spend the day enjoying a new game without distraction, halfway through the day my brain says “if you’re not doing any real work today, why don’t we just power down for a little bit?” and boom– doesn’t matter how much I love the game/how hyped I am, the nap always wins.

Signs of being young are wanting to play when you should be sleeping.

Signs of being old are wanting to sleep when you could be playing.

As they say, I have never been so offended by something I 100% agree with.
On the bright side: Silksong is still winning over the nap for me 🙂

I’m in my 40s and don’t have/don’t want kids and so I don’t have the urge to nap nearly as much. I imagine it’s because kids are pretty much parasites that feed off their parents, draining their vitality, until they are adults themselves. lol

I’m over 50 and I still nod off while playing a game sometimes. I’ll wake up and find my character standing in the middle of the road or dead at the bottom of a canyon, or whatever.

For me, it really depends on if I did something strenuous. beforehand and if the game I’m playing is more mellow and/or repetitive. I.E. if I’m playing Runescape and am doing a farming run, I’m more likely to fall asleep if I’m already tired from doing yardwork.

The ‘Creeper wake up boom’ in Minecraft is now more common for me than the ‘falling out of bed’ jump scare in real life.

I get the double whammy of ‘how did I get in my bed’ (on minecraft) followed by ‘Wait? How did I get on the sofa?” (As I realise Minecraft isn’t real).

I don’t want to nap. I don’t like to nap.
But if I am not doing something physical in the afternoon, the brain just shuts down. I hate it.

It’s called being old (middle-aged).

Naps are the reason for my growing backlog

It’s probably for the best that naps are winning for now. Borderlands 4 is not optimized well at all for launch so waiting to get it (or in Tim’s case play it), makes sense. I pretty much never preorder or buy AAA games at launch because they in general tend to be buggy and/or unoptimized messes.

Yeah. That’s age for ya. I often enjoy a little snooze at meal times, at my desk, meetings, phonecalls, MS Teams-meetings, traffic lights…*

Over 50’s Forza means at least one of us will go quiet on the mic and be found parked somewhere as we lap them.

(*Never drive tired.)
