I think there’s context dependency for that
like motion aiming works great for Splatoon, but that’s not a game that regularly requires precise aiming
and person by person basis, stability aiming can also be a nightmare. mouse and joystick you can let go of, but if you got shakey hands during motion aiming then you’ll be wobbling all over the place
I still love motion aiming more than either of the other two tho, it feels the most intuitive to me
It doesn’t regularly require precise aiming if you’re at low ranks and don’t really know what you’re doing (essentially, any Splatoon comic that Tim’s drawn). Get higher than a C and you need to be able to aim fast, not to mention quickly react and respond faster than a stick will move you.
Yes there’s more issues if someone has a handicap, but by far “precision” isn’t the problem with gyro. Precision is HOW you aim with gyro. Stick gets it in the ballpark, gyro aims at their head.
ah, well I don’t play competitive at all so I guess that’s my experience talking
I’m also willing to bet that my specific sensitivity settings have an impact on it, and it’d feel more precise with some tweaking, but I don’t even know where I’d start to test out how fiddling with sensitivity would affect my gameplay
That’s simply not true. They’re gyro aiming and gyro aiming is always a super inaccurate mess that’s also in constant need of recalibration to how you’re holding the controller.
The IR pointer on the Wii Remote, now that was great for aiming.
For me, it was the Xbox360 that melted my stance on “Keyboard and Mouse only for FPS” (I only recently bought Darkwatch because, at the time, trying to play an FPS with a PS2 controller overrode any interest that I had in the game. I’m hoping that, when I get to it, the OG Xbox controllers handle well enough.) Controllers hit the right spot for me. As such, I’m willing to make an exception as well for Xbox. Yeah, as Serious Sam 4 pointed out to me, fine tuning a shot is a lot harder than with a keyboard/mouse. However,… Read more »
I disagree that it’s on par, but it’s a night and day difference from sticks and aim assist. If I can’t mouse-and-keyboard, I gyro-aim. If I can’t do either, I don’t do first or third person shooters.
Anyone who claims gyro is worse than stick, either doesn’t know how to set up their sensitivity, spent only long enough using it to realize that decades of practice in stick aim has an edge over two hours practice of gyro, or gets motion sick.
yep i remember when microsoft did a special event of top tier pc vs top tier console players… no matter who used what set up the ones with K+M would beat controller 100% of the time. even the console players beat pc players when they swapped rigs.

Good alt title for this: Triggered
Cuz its got me all sort of triggered right now. haha
“Gaslighting” is a phenomenon where someone is continuously told that they are remembering things wrong, until they end up always doubting their own memory. It is a tactic commonly used by abusers to make their victims dependent on them for what is true in their lives. The name comes from a film where the main character did this, and there were gas lights involved; I don’t remember how.
To add to this slightly, common usage these days associates it with almost any form of deception but the description above is the correct one. Lying, even about past events, isn’t inherently gaslighting – it’s the specific act we see here where the deceptive statements are accompanied by direct attacks on the victim’s belief in themselves. It’s the “Why would I make that up? You need to pay more attention” in this strip that makes it gaslighting – the implication that she’s infallible and he’s not only fallible but always the incorrect one. The movie was from the 40’s and… Read more »
We have four bulbs over our bathroom mirror. One tends to burn out more often. When the wife asks me to change it, once I do, I like to come out and mimic Picard’s “There… are… FOUR lights!”
So far she hasn’t responded “No, there are five lights.” Even though there is also a flourescent ceiling one and that would just make it an even more appropriate response. 😄
She won’t watch TNG with me. She finds the charcterization stiff and more specifically criticizes Data’s attempts to be more human as tiresome and predictable.
We can’t ALL marry a manic pixie dream nerd, you know. 😛 I don’t watch her mindless trash tv, either, but we’ve managed all these years nonetheless.
Tell her to give it a chance. When I began watching TNG (which was by season 3, I think) I found Data unbearable. Not only for what your wife says but also because I saw him as a blatant Data rip-off. But my then boyfriend (current husband) convinced me to try and watch more than one chapter or two. I am now more fan than he is.
Yeah, I’d get a polite but firm “Thanks but no thanks.” I’m lucky enough she’ll play some modern board games with me even if it is just the simple stuff like Azul, Carcassonne, or Splendor. The problem is that I play competitively and eventually just get too good for her at most of them, then she doesn’t want to play. Personality difference, I guess; my dad mercilessly crushed me at cribbage and chess, but that just made me want to play MORE to beat him. If we share a show it’s usually an instance of what South Park called “Informative… Read more »
Kinda surprised the “I said right” when she factually said left isn’t the triggering point for Ethan. No, really, I really am it wasn’t, considering his character.
Memory is a fickle thing, and that is a big part of how gaslighting works. It’s all about instilling and manipulating self-doubt.
We, as the 4th wall, have an objective recording of the whole conversation, Ethan in panels 3 and 4 has only his memory. So the question is how well does he trust himself and his memory.
However, belittling him in public about learning a game, which really should be his element, should hopefully start triggering his BS detector.
Seriously… This is THE dude that created ‘wintereenmas'(?) for the gaming community in his universe! He may not be the best at all games, but he knows enough to know better than this level of treatment implies.

Ooh, I hate this woman so much… she’s the perfect level of *mundane* evil that gets under my skin more than most ‘proper’ villains.
I rather hope we see karmic justice happen at some point.
(Though, it could be an interesting decision to intentionally *not* give the viewers any kind of catharsis…)
In what way? Nicole is pretty much the opposite of Troll style. Troll being affliated with this is about as likely as Ethan turning out to be the Troll himself.
(Ethan having to deal with) Troll escape could become some escalating factor in this ongoing train wreck though.

Jokes on you. I use a controller for FPS when i play them on my PC
Is it just me or does anyone else feel actually very physically uncomfortable when she’s being toxic and manipulative? No other comic or book has made me feel this god damn uncomfortable before.
I feel this because I have encountered a few women that were that toxic and gaslight the men they went out with (they weren’t gamers). I dated one that was like that but pretty much left her after the second date. Had a friend also go out with a girl like that and she almost caused our friendship to permanently end but his family got through to him and he apologized and we moved past it. Also have a coworker married to a woman like that as well and we saw her gaslight her husband right in front of us.
It’s because it’s more relatable than traditional “villainy”. Most villains do evil things like threaten peoples lives, which IS evil but is not something we deal with in regular life. People who lie and then deny it, gaslighting, manipulation. Those things are pretty real for a lot of people, more so these days, and we realize it. So when a fictional character uses an emotional tactic that we have dealt with in real life it hits harder. Case in point: Mother Goethel from Tangled gets a lot more hate than many other people because her gaslighting of Rapunzel was very… Read more »

Jesus… no… can we not do this storyline, this is giving me PTSD
FPS with a controller is a crime against humanity and should be punished by life in DLC-hell.
I hold that Nintendo’s joy cons are an exception to this rule. Their motion control is about on par with a mouse for aiming.
Cant agree with that one. If it wasn’t for aim assist, no one on a console could ever cross platform a first person shooter.

That’s not what gaslighting is and it has nothing to do with the 1944 mystery movie Gaslight.

yeah, you.

More importantly, Tim, why do you keep hurting us?
More more importantly, Tim, when’s she going to get hurt?
This story arc is for that friend who won’t listen to their friends trying to warn them.
Hmm the Trekker nerd in me can’t help but make a joke about if there are four lights or five…

Girlboss, gatekeep, gaslight.
you put those in reverse order on purpose, didn’t you?
I don’t think that “Bossgirl, Keepgate, Lightgas” would be fitting better..
I put them in the order she started using them in, so yes.
Goddamn, you don´t have to put ALL the red flags into one character, you know?
Maybe that’s her super power
Yeah, I was starting to think the same. Tim, she is too much wrong. No way someone’s that bad (I hope)
Okay. Someone needs to put this See U Next Tuesday in her place FAST. Gaslighting on top of everything else…
The other people had to have heard that, right? That she said left. I wonder what they think.
“if we say she is wrong she can break us like a stick…better shut up”
But if they are playing with her friends groups, as happen in the male counterpart, will laugh “the joke”
I’ve said this before, but she’s so obviously over the top toxic I can’t see how anyone could miss it.
