Why yes, that is exactly what has been predicted every comic since the vat was shown. With every arc featuring Ethan there’s ideas how he’ll die. The moment he met Nicole people were theorising how she would kill him. What’s the chances of any controlling woman to murder someone they recently met? Pretty low. It’s Chekhov’s superpower. Because Ethan can die, he must. When D-Pad started dating there were many theories that Ben was evil, as in CAD 1.0 he had some girlfriends that actively tried to kill him. However, with Ben no one expected him to die. When we… Read more »
Yeah, you’re probably right, but it’s sure hard not to imagine how poetic it’d be for it to happen right now in front of the Troll, proving right to his face that his serum didn’t work.
I think for the Troll the serum was never about it working. It was about the anguish for Ethan not knowing if the serum did work, taking his powers.
The Troll is not after their deaths. Only their misery. Death is only ever used as a tool, not as a goal. It would only be poetic that the uncertainty is over, but the damage has been done.

Huh, that splint/brace thing on Elijah’s upper leg is a nice continuity detail.

I wonder about the continuity. Did Elijah just appeared to attack Gameboy directly earlier, or he meant to and regretted for some reason (whether trying to avoid being freezed or uncomfortable about attacking a kid physically)?
AND, in his now twisted mind, absolves him of any responsibility should anything happen to the kid, since he didn’t directly attack him but instead went after Lucas. “YOU let him fall! YOU brought him here! It was YOUR powers that caused him to hurt!” etc.
I don’t think such ideas are necessary. To save many kids he can easily rationalize harming one. Maybe not killing one, but a certain amount of harm nonetheless. To the question how much harm you would do to a child to save many, tye answer is all too easily “some.”

So, i had to go back to make sure where that tank was in relation to the vat of chemicals below and confirmed, yea Gameboy is about to fall into the acid so likely Ethan is going to be involved in interceding…but putting that aside for a moment.
It occurred to me, looking at the panel with the tank, couldn’t D-Pad simply have severed the tubes going from the tank to the ventilation and effectively disabled the device? Granted it would spew into the warehouse space, but it’s not dispersed to the city outside…

We know D-Pad can control multiple arrows at once, so why is he not also up in the air where Elijah can’t reach him easily?
If D-Pad were also in the air, then the bad guys would have two airborne targets that could potentially be dealt with in one attack. If he shared the arrow with Gameboy, then they’re consolidated into a single target. This way, they’re both high-value targets but D-Pad keeps the kid relatively safe by keeping the focus on himself as an easier target. He can spawn more arrows and is a fairly sturdy guy. Plus, it takes more concentration to maintain multiple arrows and this is a battle between supers, not stopping rando car thieves.
‘Deal with them’… how? Lucas is the only one here (aside from maybe Thunderess?) who can fly in any way, last I checked. And the bad guys here have shown no signs of having Pew Pews. He should be able to stay well out of their range, safely. And, we’ve seen him fly himself and Ethan on separate arrows before, iirc. He could easily do the same here for him and Game Boy.
Part of the plan was sneaking Gameboy into position without having the bad guys notice what was happening. Having D-Pad also come in flying would’ve drawn a lot of unwanted attention upwards and ruined that plan.

Have we seen whether D-Pad’s training involves maintaining concentration of a static platform while under duress? If not, it’d be neat to see it in a future page.

I predict that Ethan will never die again. It was a not well thought out superpower to begin with, so it needs to be retired. Think about it, depending on a return from death power that has no countdown to tell you how many times you have left. There was no god figure that came to them to explain their powers, so the next time he dies could be his last time. Why would any sane person(yes, I know we are talking Ethan here) ever rely on this being an infinite power. Unless Tim comes up with a way for… Read more »
Ethan needs to have SOME sort of super power … otherwise why have him in there at all? The infinite respawn was perhaps originally done as a video game themed lark at first. But as time has passed Tim seems to think that it no longer serves the story well … and reading between the lines perhaps he even considers it to be somewhat problematic both as a story element and as a real-world topic. At first it was done almost as a gag for laughs but over the years maybe Tim thinks that repeatedly killing Ethan has worn out… Read more »
It has been nearly two years (January 1, 2024) since the Troll first jabbed Ethan with whatever that was.
It has been nearly 11 months (February 7, 2025) since we got “confirmation” the Troll was bluffing.
Personally, I hope they get back to normal (or at least maybe Ethan OK with dying but less cavalier about it) and maybe a new villain soon. But we’ll see.
I still vote this isn’t how Ethan dies and respawns.
can still happen, game boy falls towards the vat, ethan jumps to push him out of the way and falls in himself, dies and respawn

I assume D-Pad managed to move the arrow out of reach, so Elijah is now changing tactics.
Only needs to knock the kid out or kill him. Attacking the guy holding him in the air accomplishes it faster.
AND, in his now twisted mind, absolves him of any responsibility should anything happen to the kid, since he didn’t directly attack him but instead went after Lucas. “YOU let him fall! YOU brought him here! It was YOUR powers that caused him to hurt!” etc.

Your response doesn’t make sense.
The bad guys don’t have anti-aircraft guns, and none of them can fly, so being in the air is a superior position period.

Ethan is just a far less intelligent and less rich and less capable version of Batman lol.
Doesn’t he have 3 more arrows he could just surround himself with?
And now Elijah has become what he hates!
Curious if Gameboy can just Pause his own shirt or something to prevent himself falling.
