*humble flex* as a MtG judge (L1, keep your pants on y’all) I can tell you that I have judged (just a Floor Judge) two events where it was discovered that Player 2 had friends (Players 3 and 4) intentionally join an event with the understanding that Players 3 and 4 would concede to Player 2 to increase the odds of the playgroup winning the prize (Player 2 was the more competitive player in this group). So I’ve only played local Yugioh tournaments so maybe Magic is different but with the money she’s using to pay for all the entry fees, couldn’t she just buy the prize packs? Like are they special booster packs that you can only earn?
Special prize packs? Yes and no. Typically there are award packs (called promo packs) that are meant to serve as a complement to a reward structure; However, these promo packs are like $2 a pack.
She could be trying to win an invite to a more competitive regional or national tournament.
