I think this may be our first clear look at Tim’s desire to tell serious stories. Two largely unserious comedic story arcs and characters end up resulting in this genuinely emotional and disappointing moment. Also, character development. Two girlfriends ago, Lucas would have been all over that phone number, but after the ordeals he’s gone through, he’s too damaged to even call. No jokes from Lucas, no words at all. Just trauma and response. Quiet(ish) moments like this, where the past results in changed behavior, are immensely satisfying to a storyteller, and I’d bet this is one of the moments… Read more »
