Thief 3

May 26, 2004 by Tim

Taking a break from writing commentary for the book (who would have thought it would be so difficult to come up with interesting things to tell about the strip?) to bring you my first impressions of Thief 3 which I played for a short while this evening.

A lot of it feels very much like the first two games. The atmosphere, the artwork and environment structure, the voices and actions of guards, all very familiar. So far it definitely feels like playing a Thief game.

I have small gripes with Garrett’s animations looking not as fluid as they could, but it doesn’t really detract all that much from the third-person perspective. The glow effect that give Garrett when he’s in the shadows is beautiful, and elegantly done.

I’ll have to give it some more play time before I can really nitpick about anything, but if you enjoyed the first two Thief games, it doesn’t look like you’ll be disapointed with the third.
