It’s Digital Overload 2007 announcement day! The website is up, and registration is open. A million thanks to Jeff Baxter for helping us get it up and running!
In March of 2006 we hosted the first Digital Overload, a giant LAN party for the fans of Ctrl+Alt+Del. Hundreds of gamers showed up and gamed the weekend away on PCs, consoles and board games. If you were there, you know how much fun it was. We’ve been looking forward to Digital Overload 2007 since we closed the doors on Digital Overload 2006, and now I can finally open up registration for our next event.
If you thought last year’s event was fun, we’re doing bigger and better in 2007. We’ll be back in the spacious and friendly Rhode Island Convention Center. We’re in the same hall as last year, measuring around 30,000 square feet, so Digital Overload isn’t your typical LAN party.
PC Gaming is our staple, and Ni! will be back this year, running our networks. These guys are great, and if you’ve ever attended an event they’ve worked on, you know you can expect great things.
We’re also going to ramp up our console gaming section this year. SUMO is providing us with comfortable beanbags for our console area. I have one of their Omni beanbags, and let me tell you, these things are comfortable. They’re big, malleable, and durable! There are few chairs as well suited for plopping down in front of a tv for some serious console gaming, and there is nothing I’d rather have you guys sitting in for Digital Overload!
We’ll also be setting up some tables for tabletop gaming, and my friend Matt will be running board games all weekend. So feel free to bring your Magic cards, your Warhammer stuff, whatever!
After the event last year we opened a forum thread for suggestions, and we’ve been using that thread as a guideline while organizing our 2007 event. A lot of people asked about an official Digital Overload t-shirt, so for 2007 we’ll be printing official event shirts. If you pre-register before January 16th, 2007, the t-shirt is included in your ticket price! You can choose your shirt size when registering, and it will be waiting for you at the door when you show up for the event.
More tournaments and tournament organization was another big request, and it’s a huge focus for 2007. We’ll be running tournaments for all sorts of games, on all different platforms, with some great prizes.
We’re going to pay more attention to the webcomic side of the event as well. We’ll be holding Q&A panels and gaming events with myself and other webcomic artists in attendace. We’ll also all be contributing exclusive art and comics to the DO2007 program book/comic book that all registered attendees will receive upon arrival!
We’ll be updating the Digital Overload site over the next few months as we add tournaments, prizes and more. So head on over and secure your seat for Digital Overload 2007! We’re using PayPal, which allows you to pay with your account, or, if you don’t have a PayPal account, you can use your major credit or debit cards. In the next few days I’ll be posting information on how to mail checks and money orders if you don’t have a credit card.
Likewise, official hotel information will be posted shortly.
And don’t forget to hit up the Digital Overload Forum to talk with other gamers, and arrange room/ride shares.
