Lukas and Ethan aren’t funny. Full stop. Love the art though.

Yeah, its like you’ve moved toward a serious-toned war between Gamehaven and Megagame which appears to be approaching an impending close of Gamehaven and ever further away from any humor. Watch it, Tim. You are inching closer to disenfranchising your original demo, those that have supported you since the beginning (points thumbs at chest). I came for the games and stayed for the laughs. There’s no laughs, I’m losing reason to stay..

“Cater to the narrow spectrum of content I find humorous. Expressing yourself as a comic artist is irrelevant. Losing me as a reader should affect you deeply.” I think that’s what he was saying…

I’ve been around since the beginning and am remembering why I wanted to buy the book set so much after reading the last few comics. I love the tone of Ethan and Lucas and can relate to these characters and laugh at all of the dialogue. If you like, i’m sure most of the long time readers can direct you to old comics of Tim’s that have similar box store humour… (see http://cad-comic.com/comic/just-say-no-yeah-right/ ) Now if your looking for arrow to the chest laughs with no backstory, I do believe that ship has sailed my good sir. (see http://cad-comic.com/comic/hello-old-friend/ )… Read more »

I totally agree with this. Sorry Tim, I have been reading sine the beginning, and this is not Ethan and Lucas. These guys are too serious. (Well they are sionce you wrote them, but I don’t feel the same magic).

It’s a different time.
Things change.
The early comics might as well be a time capsule for CAD’s innocence (less readers=less people to offend) and Tim’s own childish immaturity from oh so long ago.

Which is exactly what made the comic a joy to read. These are two strangers wearing the mask of characters we like. It’s as if someone made a new firefly with the same actors but took away Jayne’s one-liners, Mal’s stoicism, Wash’s sillyness and put inara out in a convent somewhere promising she’ll show up later. then at the same time had them trying to say the same type of lines. My opinion was if you are going to change the personalities why not use other characters. If you are going to bring back the crew then bring them back,… Read more »

Ha! Excellent meme placement. I loved the old Ethan and Lucas, and was sad to see them go, but I’m excited to see the new versions and how they develop from here. Don’t let the ass-hats ruin your day! Do you have plans for introducing any more old characters?

It’s implied that Ted wasn’t rescued by Scott (probably also why Scott is in a wheelchair;injuries from when he WOULD have rescued Ted) and as such Scott isn’t doing the whole END ALL MICROSOFT plot.

Dont listen to the not quite haters, keep on doing what you are doing…..Tim….. sure funny all the time is great, but you appreciate it more when there is story along with it, and good setups for the funny. I’ll never stop lovin you bro (nohomo) ((notthattheresanythingwrongwiththat)) <3

Wait, is Ethan an Orphan in this continuity, or is he just separated from his parents because he’s delusional?

Hamstermer

Both.
Ethan never had a good relationship with his parents (he was too obsessed with video games and took everything negatively), and it is implied that Ethan’s parents (or at least Rory and/or Carlie if Carlie is A+Dp Rory) died in an event that didn’t occur in the “Original” timeline. It is also implied that this is part of why Ethan and Lucas never met Lilah.

Based on more recent things, Ethan’s parents live in Nevada now. His sister is dead though

Read some of the comments earlier, felt like I should chime in. Been checking in at least weekly since before Ethan 1 built a robot that traveled the world and came back with EZEKIEL graffiti’d on his ass (Zeke is still my favorite character in the entire series!) I feel the sense of humor in CAD has matured with the franchise as well as with the writer, and the comic has aged well. The people (LOOKIN AT YOU, RAY, GET A DAMN HOBBY!) commenting saying “Lukas and Ethan aren’t funny. Full stop. ” As someone living on my own who… Read more »

I concur completely!

And I am actually intrigued with this idea that the costumes came about as originally just a means to attract customers with a gimmick. It’s an amusing premise for the duo’s start, and it does feel in line with Ethan’s character.

I look forward to more of this origin story!

People are so quick to jump into the “line of fire” just because a few people say they don’t like a part of the comics. (Commenter Andrew in particular tried to make a “joke” about Ray’s comment, which is a pretty passive aggressive way of calling someone out) Personally I’ve always thought that gutting the old series meant that he knew it was written and connected poorly and he decided to redo it from scratch rather than try to salvage it. I was fond of Zeke’s character (not necessarily the premise behind him, just Zeke himself) so I was sad… Read more »

Yeah. That sort of thing happened to an amazing flash game called MARDEK RPG. (Bad name, great game). Here, you have some people speaking out about how they prefered the past but don’t mind the present. On Mardek, a bunch of trolls commented on how there were too many words and how to play to kill not to read, even though it had as much text as final fantasy and 12x the humor. This, along with a then unknown Brain tumor caused the guy who made the game to be really depressed. Even though two more were made (it isn’t… Read more »

I agree with you. We all have different interests and reasons for liking Tim’s comics and rarely can two people in the same room agree on something, which is why Tim does surveys and has an open dialogue with us to gauge our likes and dislikes. Its not a good plan to call someone out on something they say (even if that’s the way of the internet these days), but after the recent vlog was put out if you don’t like that your favorite part of the strip has been scaled back don’t call him out on it. We can… Read more »
