So, is this the grapple releasing the way it’s supposed to? Or did it release early and we’re about to see Ethan plummet to the ground in a bloody pulp before he respawns?
A crawling feeling ,as though something were embedded deep into his corporeal body. As if his very epidermis was quivering.
Crawling.
Deep.
Inside.

If you pay attention to the positioning of the rope, it’s clear that it attaches when Ethan’s on one side of the ledge and detaches after the swing. Which is something you actually want to happen if you’re a Batman-like superhero that has to rely on gadgets to get around. A&D is set up like a comic book, so you’re going to have pages that don’t have a punchline. It’s a slow build-up. Ethan’s returning back to Lucas after moping around for a while, so he’s got some distance to cover. I always think that the balance of powers between… Read more »
I’ve been sayin that same thing since he first said “unlimited respawns”. I really thought a plot point in the whole troll thing was going to be that. But still, bad, bad, dangerous assumption to make
Lucas was granted powers by the arcade machine, whilst Ethan was granted his powers by the Not-Exactly-But-Very-Close-To-Almighty Gods of Gaming; his life is sustained by them, and as he is the greatest font from which their knowledge flows, he provides his own might. As long as he is not struck in a manner that prevents him from communing with the Not-Exactly-But-Very-Close-To-Almighty Gods of Gaming, he shalt be immortal.
You make a good point. It would also explain his insistence on going through with playing Eternal Darkness for Wintereenmas instead of suing the fuck out of Megagame when he injured himself on their property.
His power is provided by the gaming gods. So, his life is bound by his faith in the Gaming Gods, which then means that as long as his faith is unerring, so shall be his lifespan.
Left ear. According to the “if life was an MMO” comic, you breathe by sticking a knife in your ear, so it makes sense that it will keep on going like that.
…right?

Could be like Dark Souls, infinite respawns, but your wallet drops to the ground where ever you died.
The onomatopoeia “KUK” at the end made me LOL. In Swedish, it’s a crude term for male genitalia, and fittingly enough something you might yell if suddenly falling towards the ground because your grapple came loose.
(analogs respawn mechanic is closer to old era games where you respawn on spot with score intact but have finite lifes provided you dont gather extra lifes, which in analogs cases could be: saved life = + life)
I can’t do daily, because my schedule wasn’t letting me complete the whole issue ahead of time. I have a buffer, and I’m drawing new pages as these ones update.

I am currently playing through Horizon Zero Dawn and every time the character Rapels down something I imagine what happens in the comic happening to the character.

Definitely, definitely the latter.
Judging by the angle of the rope, I would say it is working as expected.
Given that it’s Ethan, though…
i got a feeling this is going to hurt
He will get a feeling. Inside his bones. sorry.. I’ll leave now.

I think that tim may have a later idea there at the end…
Dark thought: How does Ethan *know* he has unlimited continues?
What if, say, he only got 99 lives? Or 128, which was an arbitrary limit on numerical values in early video games?
What if it’s tied to his bank account, and he loses 100 cents (or 10 cents, following the Mario Odyssey mechanics) every time he dies?
And what if he ran out of lives?
… well, if that’s the case, it’s probably nothing much to worry about. A superhero never stays dead for long.

I do? I thought I was just making a joke.
I did notice that. But, since it’s Ethan, I can’t help but think that it’ll go wrong at some point.
Ethan is Ethan. 🙂
How many lives does he have though? Video games only give so many lives… I’m just saying.
That is an excellent question… for an issue some point in the future 😉
His power is provided by the gaming gods. So, his life is bound by his faith in the Gaming Gods, which then means that as long as his faith is unerring, so shall be his lifespan.
Or as long as someone’s around to insert a quarter into his lifeless corpse if he runs out of lives.
Where to insert the quarter though? Hmmm?
Well, I can’t say leaving two pennies on his eyes had the intended effect, int he past…

if it was souls respawn you’d drop wallet on spot and be teleported to last checkpoint location

Sorry to kill the joke, but that’s not KUK, it’s K-L-I-K.
Depends on the video game. A lot have moved away from life counters. Maybe it’s like Mario Odyssey, and each respawn just costs him a bit financially.
So are these going to be daily or in the regular schedule?
I can’t do daily, because my schedule wasn’t letting me complete the whole issue ahead of time. I have a buffer, and I’m drawing new pages as these ones update.

That’s a pretty badass image.
