One could argue that Ethan is even more brave. Being mortal is ‘new’ for him, after some good long time gruesomely dying pretty often.

Not only that, he knows in excruciating detail how last moments can feel. Can you imagine having all your bones crack and your skull filling with blood? Ethan doesn’t need to imagine. Even so he dons his armour.

Game Boy oughta do some practice and find out if his powers have other functions. If he can pause, maybe he can rewind? Or Save State? Who knows, powers are known to evolve as they grow.

Oof… now there would be a choice. If GameBoy could rewind things for Analog… then Lucas might never take “time off” and would thus never even meet Ben.

If he could rewind things then it’s quite simple: Ethan kills himself. If he truly has no more powers, GameBoy rewinds and tells him about it.

GB figuring out he can save state by saying “F5” and “F10” in succession. Or the “F” turns out to be based on fingers. Touch someone with his left thumb, save. Right pinky, load.

Well, there are plenty of ‘local’ rewind superpowers. Like Eri’s Rewind quirk from My Hero Academia, or Orihime’s Shun Shun Rikka from Bleach.

My personal favorite was Coil in Worm by Wildbow. He could pick a save point that would allow him to go back to a certain previous point just before he made a certain decision. Then he would decide what to do and could go back if he didn’t like how it turned out.

Another video game themed hero. They should form some sort of group for fighting crime! I know the MMO OF JUSTICE!

Really great moment for Ethan to mature a bit as a person and as a hero.
Character growth! Woohoo!

Big difference with policemen and firefighters : they have training on how to deal with dangerous situations.

Ethan instead had extensive training on dying and using himself as a meat shield to protect others.

If his former instincts kick in, he will just throw himself to his own death.

So that’s a lot more dangerous than even a random civilian trying to help in dangerous situations.

Who had “annoying kid gets Ethan to finally be honest” on their 2025 bingo card?

That’s some sage advice, kid. Might wanna think about making Game Boy a genuine sidekick and add him to the roster. Good luck finding support like that!

Gameboy is definitely a good sidekick.

What powers did GameBoy have again?

He can “pause” things (presumably some sort of time-freeze?) by touching them. Then he can un-pause them by touching them again.

Whole situation regarding Ethan’s ability still seems rather straightforward. If the Troll actually did nullify Ethan’s power, then he wouldn’t be trolling him. It would just be an attack. I don’t think taking away Ethan’s power with the hope he’ll kill himself in denial would really qualify as a troll, either.
But then, if it was my life, that’s a pretty steep cliff to step off of with all your faith on logic.

Trolling is much broader than that. You can damage people by sending things that are true. For example, some people have been trolling by sending the pictures of someone’s murdered and mutilated daughter. The goal is making others feel bad, or act differently. In this case it is a toss up whether it’s true. If it is and Ethan dies it can hit much harder. Scott and Luke lose a friend. They can be further trolled by this fact by the troll army. It then stands to reason that Ethan must try to stay alive not only for his own… Read more »

the problem is the troll ultimately wants to live, and if he gets ethan permanently killed, there’s any number of ways that goal would be put into severe jeopardy.
i would look up deathblood and give him troll’s location, then let nature take its course. then again, if they had done that from the start, ethan wouldnt be in this mess to begin with.

Doing something like that would be no better than becoming like Deathblood himself, which is exactly what Ethan fears in his anger with The Troll.

Like they put it in DS9, “Look kid, I don’t know what’s going to happen to you out there. All I can tell you is that you’ve got to play the cards life deals you. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but at least you’re in the game.”
