And now we know why it’s called “Desperate measures”. They will have to… eat their lunch cold (gasp!).

I always find it a little funny and a little scary when Ethan actually is reasonable in a situation

But what if Ethan is being the most reasonable in a situation?

honestly when serious situations happen Ethan does tend to normalize a little.

And I love that about it and how he writes the story cuz I remember in the early days where Ethan would never be normal and I like to see how Tim has grown and developed better story writing mechanics and skills

At least in reboot universe, Ethan seems to be more well rounded, and more, a person who is carefree in letting their silly / daft side be forefront , but when it is serious, they can push down, and just, behave (mostly) apropriately. Honestly they remind me of an AuDHD friend of mine who , once she finally had a space with friends she could stop masking in, behaved. When it comes to job / serious stuff, they can behave neurotypical, but when they dont need to do so, with support and such? just let the atypical behaviours show.

To be honest, it looks like lineart & bg were reused (with minor changes in the mouths), but the light/shadow stuff was done on two frames independently.

Indeed. Look at the shadows on Ethans right arm in both frames.

worst case he can always call for them to come help.

and it is one more can of worms.
can he? should he?
If I’m not mistaken they are not “registered” heroes, more like vigilantes (please correct me if I am wrong).
And also, now, when Ben knows their true identities, does it mean he should call for their backup any time this backup is needed? How to avoid making them their “personal superheroes”?

Also, calling for their help would probably put a person dear to him in danger… while theoretically police officers face such risks often, now it is different matter.

Yeah I’m not Ben but I would consider directly calling Lucas and Ethan inappropriate. Even if they were registered, unless they’ve talked about this ahead of time I wouldn’t go there.

In his shoes I would assume that not only do they have whatever means they normally use to find situations to help with, but in this case they are aware something is happening because he just told them. If they intend to get involved, they’ll do it that way – he should proceed with his work the same as he would any other day.

I don’t remember it off the top of my head, if I knew it at all.
Who’s the “old man” and which book/movie/game/other was he in?

Watch yourself, when I made comment like that I got sandbagged like hell. Granted it was in a more upbeat scene and being a downer in those is frowned on.

So what? People downvote here over silly things at times, making mountains out of molehills. I’ve been downvoted for defending my decision to refer to Zeke, a fictitious character, with male pronouns. And I once defended a user who got downvoted into oblivion after saying “lol he got brain damage” when the explosive in Zeke’s head went off, only to get downvoted myself. My response? “Hey, cool, I got some [downvotes] now too.” The upvotes and downvotes here don’t really carry any weight; I wouldn’t worry so much about them.

What you would think/wish would happen is that a community is always upvoting and downvoting a comment based on logic and critical thinking.

As recent events worldwide have proven, even the most serious of voting and opinions are based more on monkey sphere feelings, poor mis-understandings, tribalism stances, and “ooo let’s follow the crowd”.

Imagine being proud of deliberately misgendering a fictional character, which you canonically are told by the author is wrong.

I don’t derive pride over it it, it’s just my preference. I could use “flergosharakta,” “flisherob,” and “flughiononograbbakabbakingofthehillbeatsfamilyguy” as pronouns for that character if I wanted to.

Yeah, I got downvoted to hell before over the smallest things. Curious questions, pointing out cool details. I mean, what gives? Even on this page there are mass downvotes for other comments.

Damn. I just realised. A guy named Ben heading into dangerous situation.
I hope he is not an uncle to anyone named Peter…

I think I called it in the last issue. Ben dies. I think being a cop who knows their secret identities kind of makes that a narrative necessity.

I think we are either in for a tragedy or a comedy.

I’m worried about something less drastic than Ben dying. I’m worried they don’t go, it goes to shit, and Ben wants to know why they weren’t there.

Part of me is like “I mean… they could go and help in a support capacity (maintaining a perimeter, etc)”, but the police will already be handling that plus probably some lower tier registered supes. I wonder if this would be the sort of thing that would potentially push them to register, which could create an interesting scenario where they go to register and Lucas goes right through, but since they aren’t 100% sure that Ethan even has any powers anymore, he gets passed over.

It always feels terrible when you know you have the power to do SOMETHING, but you can’t risk being discovered or others getting hurt. But you know in your heart, the only thing required for evil to win is for good men to do nothing.

This isn’t really that scenario, though. The issue here is more the opposite. They don’t (know if they) have the power to do something. And being unable to help when you previously would’ve been able to also feels terrible.

Man, I’d love to live in a community where I could trust the cops to rush to this scene. I remember Uvalde, and I worry the cops in my town are more “stand outside and wait” than “rush in and save kids.” 🙁

And I remember when all that nice shiny military gear was suddenly off bases and instead in civvy areas, but when chips are down, their nuts recede up and to the nearest dunkin.

They are. They all are. If Lucas and Ethan don’t go in to stop it, no one else will. The cops on the scene will just wait around until the shooter runs out of bullets.

Lukas’s power would be incredibly helpful for this kind of situation
