I have half a dozen games I barely played (not counting all the free ones from epic), but still playing Rimworld.

My old gaming laptop crashed, the easiest solution to Ethans conundrum I found was to only install a few of the dailies and just a couple of the major plays of a 400+ list on the new system.
Now its play x or y, or spend hours downloading something else… the backlog is clearing.
Yeah comfort/regulars like MS jigsaw, etc where you basically 5 minutes checking in doing the daily challenges and logging out.
Not a big thing just part of the wake up routine while munching on breakfast.
Or games with lot’s of content to conquer, such as Binding of Isaac playthrough with all characters/challenges. Faster Than Light? Easy over 400 hours and I still have not got all the ships over.

I like to just use random.org to pick the next game when I can’t decide which backlog game to play

This is why I rarely buy games. I have little trouble picking a next.

The struggle is real.
I wish more games would have a “Dad” mode. Allow me to enjoy a game, but at 200% efficiency. End-game content that requires repetitive grinding is just never going to happen.
I wish more games had a “Dad” mode too, but I am unsure I am with you on the 200% efficiency. Many games provide a way to scale difficulty, but I have yet to see a game providing a way to scale the amount of grind and the number of encounters. I don’t have enough time to sink into games but I still appreciate a challenge.
I’ve routinely hit an unkillable boss in an RPG because I’ve not been grinding enough. Even on an easier difficulty, sometimes you just hit a wall from avoiding grinding due to limited time when the enemies (especially bosses) outscale you. Current one is the control room ghost boss in FF7Remake.
My Dad-Mode would be a small “picking up the savegame after 4 months” turorial to avoid starting over again, because Idk what I´m supposed to do with what I saved ages ago.

The backlog is real been building up from getting factorio! So many other games but the factory must grow!
I just picked factorio up again. Last played in 2017 when it was release 0.18.
My starter base is… Atrocious. Cleaning up horror shows. Resisting the urge to just start over because it’s a lot easier to fix stuff now that I have bots.

Dwarf Fortress being on the backlog.. Goodness, it’s on MY backlog. Thousands of hours lost to it several years ago and I still haven’t tried the Steam version.
I have, but by default it uses new keyboard shortcuts and my old muscle memory broke down. Then I got distracted by other stuff.
I was still happy to spend money for the stupid number of hours I’d spent already, though.
Reading about the new interface is what’s kept me from firing it up several times, haha. I wonder if there’s a classic mode in it.
Now the darn comic’s got me thinking about it, maybe I’ll go and look into it again.

I feel this. Everytime I have a few extra hours free any more I go through it. Usually I end up opening a game, maybe even getting into a save file to run around for 5 minutes then decide it was the wrong choice. Close the game, continue to stare at steam library. By the time I settle on a game, I have 20 minutes left to play.

I think it’s time to hit the Steam store…not to buy anything, but just for inspiration. *wink*

Simple and clean. pick one that can be done Fastest, that IS done when the credits roll, not umpteen DLC or redo for the True ending. Then after annihilating that one fully move on to the next. In that regard Good: FF16. Bad: Dragon Quest 11 EoaEA.

I’m trying a new approach: One new game, then one from backlog, then repeat. There is a tiny problem with my approach, though. The first new game I picked was Baldur’s Gate 3. And I love to take my time… guess the old game will have to wait a few months.

Wait, so what’s the weapon in the event of home invasion? The duck tape?
Backlog Paralysis… Can’t imagine what that’s like \s
I just avoid it by picking one at random.
Rather classic “choosers dilemma” , too many equally good choices makes it hard to choose

If you are only playing a game to run dailies how is that different than working a job?
I think they meant the “day to day” games, ones they pick up and play most often. “Comfort games”, as some call them.

Dad mode please.
Throwing a Fenix Down at it won’t do the trick? (I don’t play Final Fantasy games anymore so you say ghost room and I think undead of some form).

This last panel is so so so true…. you see the dozens and dozens of games you have yet to try and it is just overwhelming.
You mean hundreds and hundreds, right?
