I’ve been really enjoying Door Kickers 2. I’ve had to learn a lot of mil-sim stuff (in regards to needing to understand actual CQC tactics and how to execute them), but I enjoy that each mission is essentially like a puzzle to crack, and it feels great to watch a smooth, real-time replay after everything goes perfectly.

“I never knew corner’s of rooms were so terrifying”
What, you’ve Never played a shooter before? Because that’s just basic shooter logic right there.
“Basic shooters” are run and gun. “Basic shooters” often have health bars and shields; You button hook the door, it becomes a skill check against another player. Sure, we all know the concept of ‘check your corners’, but anyone who plays shooters knows proper CQB tactics fly out the window on most “basic shooters” because games don’t typically punish you for sloppy tactics. There are more hyper-realistic mil-sim shooters like Ready or Not that I haven’t played, that probably emphasize CQB realities a bit more. But that’s not a “basic” shooter, either; that’s a pretty specific branch of the shooter… Read more »
Swat (I think back in the 00s) was a good example of tactical shooter (emphasis on tactical). The periscope was your best friend to know what was behind a door before kicking it.
Oh, the hours of my life spent playing SWAT 3, especially after the patch that made it work 5 vs 5. But even in single player, it was great for the tactical work.
And on the other side of the ‘balance’ in a game:
AvP where Marines died, died, died again, etc. because the xenos were so lethal. The only way we could even things up is kids (xenos) vs. Marines. Of course, most of my group of pals included bunch of US SF and vets of 82nd Airborne. Outstanding folks.
SWAT 4 was excellent. And if you were playing PvP, you could taser or OC paintball the threat and then zip strap them for a bit while they writhed…. that made my day. I used to play a lot of ARMA II (Armed Assault) a lot, wrote some missions. Loved the one zombie mod that was so good… basically if you had a server running that, you could run missions alone or with other players. One other game Tim might want to try : Breach Wizards (steam). It’s like CQ in your usual game, but you can mess with time… Read more »
You just got essayed
“Don’t forget to clear the shitter”…. the number of times I have had to tell my kids that….
Though with kids, you should keep it to flashbangs…..
Cleaning the shitter goes at least as far back as “Pulp Fiction” movie. 😉
If you’re willing to count killing a defenesless person in a toilet, then I think Psycho should count.
I meant someone actually dangerous hiding in there (like the guy who tried to shoot Vincent and Jules), so not really.
Another thing you quickly learn is that there is a reason shotguns are reffered to as ‘Master keys’ 😉
That and the Halligan tool (Hooligan tool). Two guys on that can tear open a steel fire door.
F’ing New Guy. 😂 I recognised that acronym.
Never played Doors Kickers 1 or 2, but I have played plenty of Door Kickers: Action Squad and had lots of fun with it.
I didn’t even know that was a thing. Looks awesome XD
growing up in CoD2 with the extreme+ mod for trip wires and booby traps means i check corners and VAULT stair cases often. i am so paranoid of traps and ambushes i cross check often.
many modern shooters are pray and spray but the classic did teach good tactics.
“Don’t forget to clear the shitter” Donut Operator just the other day had a video with a murder holed up in a bathroom. Extremely tight quarters and he came at officers with a knife.
