I can’t walk past un-inked space. Can’t do it. Maybe it’s a little OCD in me, but everything needs a nice, uniform coat.
You’re not going to ink our spawn? That surface area just isn’t good enough for you? Fine, I’ll do it. And the verticals! It’s like people forget that there are multiple dimensions in the game. Walls win games, as far as I’m concerned.
But is it worth getting? 🙂
Splatoon 2? Oh, 100%. Love the game.
In fairness about the verticals, at least in the 1st game, only the horizontal, and mostly horizontal surfaces were counted for territory control. That being said, walls are great mobility and spawn can be a huge area that can make or break a game.
Uh are you sure the verticals weren’t counted in the first game? I had several rounds where the map looked like the other team won but my team would end up winning and I always would ink the walls because as Tim said people ignore them a lot.
Never mind just read all the other comments. Don’t know how I didn’t know that. I guess those wins were because the opposing team wasn’t completely covering there areas.
I feel you :(. However, have you noticed that the walls don’t actually count for you super meter or the score? But they are very useful to sneak behind the enemy whenever THEY forget to paint their walls 😉
I don’t think vertical space is counted to the win percentage, at least that is how it was in first Splatoon
I’m with you on the floors, but walls don’t count towards victory, so I never go for them.
They may not count towards victory, but inking walls allow you to reach higher areas. Which are useful for sniping and covering a wide area. I make good use of them even if I’m not using a charger.
**Place Trump wall joke here**
Splatoon President Dunk’s campaign promises, 2016:
Paint the wall!
(Meant to be a joke, not in reference to any political beliefs or alignment)
The next time I see someone painting the walls meticulously, I’ll do 3 booyahs while staring you in the face so you’ll know it’s me.
😀 😀 😀
Messy…
😀 😀 😀
This comic would not have been as funny as it is without your comment, Tim 😀
square footage of floor is the only thing that counts towards victory when the calculation is done.
That’s not the point. If you ink walls, you have extra mobility compared to your opponents, and they’re then faced with the decision of allowing you the mobility to zip around behind them, or to spend the time re-inking the walls themselves. Either way, you’re dictating the terms of the match. Not to mention the psychological impact of getting walls inked on their side of the map. If they walk out and see the enemy color in their space, they’re going to feel like they need to get rid of it. Again, they’re spending time on it later in the… Read more »
I am pretty sure that 10 seconds spend painting a wall is 10 seconds spend painting a wall, no matter if it’s in the start or the end of the game, so I really don’t think that “they’re spending time on it later in the game when it matters most” is a very strong argument, after all you spend the time on it in the beginning instead of covering ground that could count *shrugs*
The last 45-60 seconds of a match are the most crucial. Even if you have the entire center of a stage inked, if a couple of your team happen to die within that window, the other, full team can easily take the majority before you respawn and make it back to the conflict. The first half of a match is mostly spent claiming uninked surface. It’s the second half where you’re trying to ink over the other team. And that’s where the extra mobility, and slowing them down if they feel compelled to ink over your color on walls, where… Read more »
I’ve only played the first Splatoon, but I can agree that inking walls to climb them is crucial.
Using it for psychological warfare never occured to me, perhaps I’ll give it a try.
Also, I’m also the kind of guy that inks the spawn area while nobody else does. Every inch counts!
Funny that you mention psychological warfare. I feel like heavy weaponry, like splatling or blaster has that effect. I cannot imagine other reason why people allow me to blast them 3 times in a row with rapid blaster shockwave. After splatting they start to either keep distance or approach very close… which sucks for them if I got mines set up in good places. But I do feel that painting walls is situational. Climbing on walls makes you easy target so you should not climb near enemy unless you are ninja swimmer. I want to level up and find ideal… Read more »
I figured it was just a completionist’s “there’s the wrong ink color here” urge. Semi-OCD, if you would. Which was completely understandable to me.
Seeing this video just reminded me of this:

Good times!
Question for the comments section: what is your favorite special? Mine are ink storm and baller
Missile launcher, armor. Both can be activated in safety while benefiting team. Actually great with weapons that offer good ink coverage while everyone goes aggro and you are left painting forgotten flank.
Depending on the weapon I’m using at the time I end up painting the wall often wnough

Shush, you.
Shouldn’t you be feigning dead? Or watching chainsaws fly?
I don’t speak Octarian.

Oh no, there’s more of them!
I read the last panel in the voice of the gay guy from Family Guy.
PAINT ALL THE THINGS
Hm…I don’t want to miss the battle, but the wall should definitely be a different shade of blue, it looks sapphire when it should probably more on the Cerulean end…
Bob Vila would be concerned about getting every spot and laying down a nice, even coat. Bob Ross would spend the entire match making a breathtaking mountain scene using positive and negative space
It’s so true. I’m looking forward to finding a comic about more casual vs hardcore splatoon players
