Popped up once, as a mention back when GDC was cancelled. Comment section literally exploded, and not in a good way. Since then, no mention – though we also haven’t seen things like customers in stores or large public gatherings, either. This is a comic where a year can pass IRL when only a month passes in-strip (aside from game releases, that is). There’s a ton of problems with trying to tie in a real-world pandemic timeline to a fictional world’s superhero story. The pandemic isn’t vital to the current story *at all*, which is already decently full of dark… Read more »
I’ve been saying for a bit that we’re not ready for stories set during Covid yet. Some time needs to pass before it’ll be kosher to make art/media/entertainment that takes place during the pandemic. Whether you’re doing something poignant that resonates with the feelings of loss and isolation or something more light hearted that attempts to poke fun or find silver linings, we’re just not really ready yet.
I thought I did comment on that. While I mentioned a “virus” in terms of that comic, I’ve never mentioned Covid specifically, and once it became clear that COVID was turning into a full-blown pandemic that we were going to be living/dealing with for quite some time, I made the decision not to mirror it in the comic because, frankly, it was unecessary. We were (and still are) dealing with the effects of the pandemic on a daily basis, constantly. I didn’t feel the need to be yet another reminder of that; I chose to allow the comic to be… Read more »
Obviously it isn’t, but it is important that some of the crazier stuff is still grounded in things that are believable and recognizeable. 🙂 Case in point, I did a comic for Patreon about the PS5/Series X launch in Omnitropolis, that had people lining up outside a store hoping to get one. People immediately noticed “wait, we can’t line up in person for launches now”. No, but that’s what we’d be doing if the pandemic hadn’t happened, so that’s how it is in Omnitropolis. However the longer this goes on, the weirder and more foreign it gets seeing stuff like… Read more »

I respect Tim so much for acknowledging how messed up cyberpunk is.

Love Ethan’s argument in panel 2. Kind of mirrors my own thoughts.
At any point I might be slogging through a large 50ish hour game. But Winter-Een-Mas? I generally put that aside and either try something new, replay something old that I loved, or spend the week just playing sheer-fun online games.
Picked up CrossCode just this last weekend and broke into it yesterday. This is going to be my game this week.
no thanks nintendo

Cyberpunk is rather fun. . . If you have a PC and treat the bugs as if it were a beta. And skip as much of the main story they try to cram down your throat. . .
Why am I still playing this thing?!

Even Gizmo would’ve picked a game with far worse bugs than Cyberpunk, Tim. AC: Unity was unplayable for quite a few people before the first few patches came along. TR: Angel of Darkness as an absolute mess when it was released, and the bugs were only part of the issue. Cyberpunk was nowhere near as awful as those two games. And hey, AC: Unity is now one of the best in the franchise after the patches erased all the bugs. So haters are just nothing more than Karens and Toby Maguire Spidermans.
on cyberpunks case its not bugs; but rather deeper issue within story telling and gameplay itself, not forgetting about world build …so much missed/left out potential
And remember that first impression is most vital; it doesnt matter if game gets fixed later as first impression of it is forever marked as “it had unclaimed potential”
I believe this is a matter of relevance, Cyberpunk is the newest addition to the Wall of Shame, that doesn’t make it the worst addition.

Ooooooooh, that reminds me of that awesome tournament where Ethan first won the crown and then later failed to defend it and it was awesome! Anyone got the link to both tournaments for me? I wanna reread them.
oof, that one hurts right here in my meow meow
But, but, it would make the challenge so much more meaningful.
I’m voting with the bot on this one.
Huh, guess this is a universe parallel to ours but without the COVID!

>>>that our real-world and their comic world won’t be so forever completely diverged on drastically separate paths…<<<
Because this comic is otherwise soo similar to real life. 😉

What you are searching for is the Game Games Bowl (All the way back from 2012! Holy cow!)

Thanks, mate.
Should introduce him to the roman coliseum. He’d get a kick out of Carpophorus.
I think I just heard the fire alarm go off at CDPR studios from that burn.
