This reminds me of Business Battles in GTA Online, yes, they are supposed to be a battle, it is only in the name after all, there are a lot of players that just want to get in and get out, and not worry about other players. Especially when there are other things at stake, like some clothing unlock for delivering an Event Cargo Business Battle Goods, where you can only get 1 unlock from it no matter how many there are to deliver, so just get yours and let others get theirs, and everybody is happy!

It is a stupid idea to force pve and pvp players together. It never works out in the end. Because the pve players leave. This change, and the inevitable pve mode, are the only reason I am even considering getting it when it goes on sale for 40% off in a few months on steam.
They didn’t force anything. They were clear before release that they had abandoned the idea of it being a PvE game. The only people ‘forcing’ PvE and PvP together were the players who seem to have forgotten that and bought it anyway.
the mix of pvp and pve is what makes the game interesting, and the presence of friendliness based matchmaking means that you are in essence, rewarded for being good to your fellow man by putting you side by side with those who want that same sort of kindness.
The possibility that somebody can shoot you in the back, but that they choose not to, is very cool.
Star Wars the Republic had this years ago with one of the worlds. Been ages ago so I can’t remember the planet in particular, but basically it was a death world, everything was trying (and could) kill you, and on top of that the entire world was an open PvP area. Thing is, because of how brutal and punishing the puzzles and enemies were, the moment a Jedi or Sith attacked anyone from the other faction they would get put down by their own faction for even thinking of trying to start shit lol Hell, it was common to see… Read more »
That only works for a little while sadly. There will be PVE players that do fight back because they don’t want to just blindly accept the gank and are then in the PVPer queue and eventually quit because of it. It’s why Embark is adding in a PVE mode now.
When the solution is easy enough to create a pve only server, or ABMM at a minimum, then yes they are forcing the two communities together if they don’t implement either. Making games is a business. If you drive away more than half your customers (because pvpers are not even slightly the majority, and most just like to grief the pvers) then it is bad business and you make less money. It was funny seeing the pvpers on social media crying about ABMM. ‘they were clear before release… blah blah blah’ yeah and they only got hype because the pvp… Read more »
It certainly creates an issue with griefers. It’s just safer, and more fun, when people who don’t want to participate in pvp can opt out while still having the option to participate with other players.
It’s a stupid idea to buy a pvpve game and expect to be able to play the game ignoring one or the other. You don’t see so-called “pvp players” complaining about being attacked by the ARC or having to farm materials, why do the “pve players” feel entitled to not get shot by other players?
If you’re a player that prefers not to shoot first and likes to team up, that’s fine. If you’re a player that thinks that being shot by other players is inherently bad, then you should leave.

I’d love to see how this would play out on a Canadian server. “Oh, sorry. I did not expect anyone else to come for this loot. Do you want it.” “Sorry, that’s all right, just go ahead, you came here first.” “I did, but that doesn’t mean I should keep all of it. You seem to not have enough equipment to defend yourself. Please, take some of this.” “I don’t have a lot of equipment, but that also means I don’t have a lot to lose, you take it.” “I can’t now that you’re here as well. How about we… Read more »
Well most of the Geneva convention clauses are there because of the Canadians. One Country you definitely do not want to go to war against.

The ABMM seems to have been working considering the number of games sold and the player counts staying stable. Only people who have been disliking it have been the people who can’t take what they dish out.

I quite like the more passive lobbies where focus on the ARC is a greater concern than PVP. Yeah, occasionally a rat will kill you, but more frequently now in the friendly servers, even the wiff of a rat and players will band together to cover one another. Its a good way to make new gaming friends, and its nice being the hero who spots somebody else get merk’d by a rat, then you get to roll in and play the hero, and bring that guy back while punishing the aggressor. Its less like depicted, typically most areas will have… Read more »
Problem is even fighting against the rat puts you in the PVP queue. The problem is that the system needs to be more fine-tuned, i.e. the person doesn’t initiate PVP by attacking first at all (fights back against gankers) and is friendly normally.
that would be the final step to making that matchmaking perfect. Additionally, if somebody WAS ratting, they could be tagged as such, and any aggression into them would boil back towards being neutral for hitting them.

Okay, now that sounds like my kind of multiplayer! I hate getting stuck with “alpha” types who have to be on top, no matter what. Like, hey, how about a little co-operation, every once in a while?
Let the Andrew Tates play with other Andrew Tates, and the rest of us play with someone who just wants to have some fun!
people hate on all forms of AI, but it’s only AI that will be able to analyze and collate sufficiently dynamic metrics to be able to accurately match griefers with other griefers, etc.

Problem with this matmaking system is that if you fight back at all, you are put in the PVP matchmacking system and it takes much longer to get back into the PVE matchmaking system by being nonaggressive. That’s not fun of having to just accept getting ganked and losing all of your gear and loot.
You could use the system from Fallout 76. You can toggle a switch in the menu, so it is almost impossible for you to initiate PVP(there are some defined exceptions). If you initiate PVP for any reason, you become a free PVP target, and anyone who attacks you does not count as initiating PVP.
DC Universe Online has something similar, where there are PvP “events” where, by participating, you go into PvP mode and can attack/be attacked by other PvPers. If you don’t attack(or get attacked by) anyone for five minutes, your PvP token expires.
Or you can travel to the Watchtower or Hall of Doom and use a special teleporter that puts you into a PvP “phase.” If you travel to an area that doesn’t have a PvP phase, your PvP token is temporarily disabled, until you travel to an area that does have a PvP phase.

All bets are off on the Newfoundland server though.
“What y’at? Look at all those come from aways, stunned as lumps they are.”

At least, until we get angry, after which point we’re probably the most aggressive on the server. 😅

I prefer the LOTRO method, where there is a specific PVP zone.
If you just want PVE, you stay out of the zone, and you can’t be attacked.
