Don’t forget previous incarnation of Ethan actually built Zeke plus we have seen him come up with plenty of other wild inventions. Admittedly we haven’t seen this Ethan be as technologically sound but it still stands to reason that under all the insanity he is probably quite intelligent.
Hey, Stupid people can be clever too. Sometimes you can only come up with the sort of clever solutions smart people can’t see by coming from the other side of the problem and spectrum of intelligence.

Folk, I know I’m out of context here but please read me out. First of all, I apologize for any typo/mistake but English is not my mother tongue: I’m Italian. I wish to let you know that this pandemic spreading in the world is a serious thing. I’m 52 now and I’ve been here during Chernobyl nuclear accident, Suine Flu, SARS, chemical accident of Seveso and Farmoplant. This is the very first time that our country lock down almost any activities. People is told to stay in their home except to work, health care and supply their pantries. This is… Read more »
Depends on how many different ways you can kill ethan before it gets old which for an ai im sure it can come up with an immense number of ways to do it
Deep down inside, I think we all wanted a robot best friend when we were little. I think Ethan’s just a little bit more in-touch with his inner child. Also. This might JUST be me. But I kinda-sorta am starting to see his empathetic side here, and not just from the I-was-a-prisoner, you-were-a-prisoner bit. I’m not sure if this is a savior complex sort of issue, in part driven by his experience with the Troll and deciding to do good even though he had hurt someone in the past. But my respect for Ethan, being the lone person interested in… Read more »

In Terminator universe, Ethan would be the reason Skynet would be online.
That and being able to murder Ethan whenever he wants.

Scott is right, it’s always programming. Even a “learning” robot had to be programmed to “learn”. It has to be programmed to do something with that “learned” data. Just because a machine or hologram (ie: ST Voyager) or whatever has “learned” enough to have a “personality” is it alive? I’m in the solid “No” camp. But hey, “AI” is always good science fiction fodder 🙂
But…what if you are wrong? What if programming is functionally no different than genetics plus education/indoctrination? There have been long periods of human history where people insisted that other types of people (races, genders, etc) are not really sentient. I’d hate to make that mistake again..
I’d agree that it’s always programming, but whether or not humans (or other creatures) have something that makes them different is unknown. Whatever theory of creation you subscribe to, something allows humans (and other creatures) to process data, and we simply don’t know much about how it works.
Maybe it’s a rudimentary version of what we have. Maybe it’s not. But I’d rather treat the robot like a person and be wrong, than be wrong the other way.
Plot twist: the AI ‘program’ that Scott’s been chipping away at is a decoy; a dummy program, and the REAL AI is being run on the copy of Minecraft that came with the XBox One, entirely out of redstone circuitry.

Wait he can’t hear? Aww man I thought all their conversations would be good for him. Also: wow mental isolation sucks, hope he came loaded with solitaire or something.
Technically, we don’t know. It was never mentioned, specifically. Just that “auxiliary programs like speech and movement” (and we also know about sight) were shut down.
Goof or “done ‘off-screen'” type of deal/implied in the above? We’ll have to wait and see! xD

The question I want answered is, did the Master Send the kill code after Scott deactivated it? Because if he did, he may believe that the xbot has been destroyed.
I’m on tenterhooks for the next set of strips! Happy that we’re back to this so soon.
How so very Ethan.
Oh Ethan, you can do the right thing AND be excited at the potential of a pet murderbot
I am impressed with Ethan knowing the word sentient and using it to win an argument.^^
Well, Ethan is not stupid.. He is just… Chaotic Good.. Like in Chaotic Chaotic Chaotic good. 😉
He’s oddly smart only when trying to win an argument that’s likely to be detrimental to his own health and lucas and scotts sanity

And if XB’s STILL an asshole?
It would be a STILL asshole!
Let’s be honest, he’s gonna be a permanent asshole at this point. But hopefully he wont be the stabby kind of asshole.
He’ll have a roommate who doesn’t permanently die when stabbed.
You tell me what you think that’s going to do for the ol’ stabby-stab
Depends on how many different ways you can kill ethan before it gets old which for an ai im sure it can come up with an immense number of ways to do it
I feel like……KILLING ALL CARBON-BASED LIFEFORMS
Robots are still technically carbon-based lifeforms, so….
Last I checked, the vital element of computers is silicon.
Go solar!

Well, he’d teach Skynet friendship first.
Like, remember in Terminator 2, the Good T-800?
This… won’t end well. Will it?
It’s going to be tricky, and hard. But not impossible.
I think that it’ll end well, when all’s said and done. How long that takes, and what happens in the meantime, is anyone’s guess.
It’ll end well in a ethan sort of way
Just waiting for them to get the Murder Bot invested in video games, and that is how he/it channels his stabby impulses.
That and being able to murder Ethan whenever he wants.
