That’s the point I think – if he tries, Elijah would see the Troll for who he really is.
But Troll probably knows that, so unless he gets too angry to care and flips out, he probably won’t do that.

Well that was clever. Hopefully there’s no backup tanks, though.

Cant help noticing that the kid is sat on an arrow platform that can presumably just disappear, high up… above the vat of bubbling chemicals. Don’t do it Tim!!!
Lucas could have positioned him on the other side of the tank.

Surprise child!
You know, just realized Game Boy alone can challenge Elijah’s worldview quite a lot. Here’s a kid using video games not as a springboard for violence, but as inspiration to help people.

wait a minute. that game kid has powers? Up until now I thought he was just some kid in a costume wandering the streets at night!!! what does he even do?
He’s called “Gameboy,” and has the power of pausing things. With a touch it pauses, and another can unpause.
Besides the requirement of touch the momentum still passes to Gameboy, so if there’s too much moving mass involved he could get seriously injured. See the “Demolition duke” arc for more. Demolition Duke isn’t where they first met iirc, but the first time we only saw him pausing a random (car?) thief and then pausing Ethan when he explained his pausing to D-Pad.
It’s absolutely incredible that I’ve been regularly reading this comic, every single week, almost since the very beginning, and I still managed to miss salient details like this. Makes me wonder what else I’ve missed?!
Game Boy can “pause” anyone or anything he touches. Once “paused” the target is completely unlovable.
In an earlier comic he used his power on Ethan’s grappling line after it had been wrapped around a villain in a giant mech suit. The mech couldn’t move without ripping its own arm off.
Okay I know this was done for the sake of the audience, but it is kind of funny for the protagonist to be unnecessarily explaining the plan out loud for the bad guy to know what he’s doing. It’s usually the other way around!
Yeah but team good guys already executed a large chunk of their plan before they spilled the beans on what they were up to.
The Troll and his crew would have found out moments later when they go to detonate the chemical bomb thing and it just doesnt respond.

“See, that only works… If THAT’S the bomb. Come ON, are you REALLY that STUPID?! By the way, good job touching that HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE and CORROSIVE container! Looks like DouchePad and Anal LOSER just racked up another victim! Lol!!”
I thought it was Dorkpad. Or Arrow Guy. Although I guess no more Arrow Guy references, as he has expanded his grudge after D-Pad out-trolled him.

Well, you didn’t have to explain your power to the enemy loudly, but thanks anyway.
At least we confirmed that he can pause more than one object at once, so he could theoretically hold both Elijah and the bomb

So maybe gonna call it now but I’m thinking Thunderess is going to snap tossing Troll into the vat again, which would have an outcry against heroes in general going ‘too far’

Troll: That’s unfair! You can’t just hit pause in a multiplayer match!

With Elijah being a full-blown speedster and Alex/Black Hat being capable of speed hacking, I think the next move from the Troll might be to reveal that he has more tanks all over the city. Even if the detonator has a limited range, either of them can get within range in seconds.
But why would he bother to do that and require the detonator. Just let them go off anyways, why would the Troll care about honoring any agreement in the first place?
He’s got all of this worlds version of 4chan working for him, so yeah he probably does.

Seems like Elijah and Black Hat might be best served to just run off. They held up their end of the bargain, but there’s nothing to gain here now.
I don’t suppose if Thundress drops the Troll in the goo he’ll revert to his pre-Troll state?

So why didn’t Thunderess just knock out the Troll and then tie him up/handcuff him? Would be one less threat in the immediate area even if said threat was minimal compared to the other two.
Generally not a bright idea to cold-cock someone who has access to a detonator. A dead-man'[s switch can make you REALLY regret it, or a vitals detecting failsafe. If crok goes unconscious, everything goes BOOM.
He just revealed he doesn’t have the switch though. At the very least handcuff him to something so he can’t interfere the fight with others.

Nice! Game Boy coming in clutch, saving the city! Woohoooo!
Yet I fear something bad is about to happen to the kid and Ethan has to risk his life or outright die to save him which will show us if his powers are still there or not.
Alternatively since its been so long since he has last respawned ….could this also bring issues …. like it takes a few days before he can respawn again …..or he respawns in a ng+1 mode or something….

Thats a cool power for him. If we saw his power already I forgot about it, and it makes sense for them to bring him to help.

Have to wonder how willing Elijah and Alex are willing to actually set off the bomb and risk being ‘melted’ in the aftermath.
So what’s stopping Thunderess apprehending Troll now and getting him back to jail?
I don’t think much. Expect the Troll to flip out and get Elijah to murder that kid.
I don’t think Elijah can fly, at least.
If he’s fast enough to run up walls, I’ve no doubt he’s fast enough to run across a ceiling long enough to reach the kid.
If he tries it I wager he misses and falls into the troll’s toxic pit.
He might be able to run fast enough to go up walls or on the ceiling, but I don’t see him attacking a child.
That’s the point I think – if he tries, Elijah would see the Troll for who he really is.
But Troll probably knows that, so unless he gets too angry to care and flips out, he probably won’t do that.
If Elijah goes for the kid, then any reasonable chance of redemption for his dumb-ass character is flying out the window for good.
The dude has committed Murder-1 multiple times. There’s no redemption here.
I don’t see Elijah doing it, but he did start killing people because the lack of violence wasn’t getting him anywhere.
Elijah and Alex
Alex / Black Hat would be the better character to use in this case for sure.
I just dont see Elijah attacking a child given his backstory.
“Oh that one ?” I don’t know what it is. It must be a prop or something. The real bomb is in the SEWERS !
I anticipated your anticipation of my anticipated action!
‘Oh, that was yours? We already knew about that. A city worker in the sewers discovered that a week ago and it was disposed of already.’

The tank is on the side, not over the vat, and possibly even behind the Troll. Plenty of dangers, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be vat related.
Okay, but what if it turns out Lucas is actually the Troll? He could easily move the arrow and tip him in!
Dun-dun-DUUUNNNNN!!!
Not directly above, but too close for my liking. https://cad-comic.com/comic/showdown-p14/
Lucas could have positioned him on the other side of the tank.

Its probably just forgetting, he last used his powers before Covid I think, at least in combat.
He can never be allowed near a particle accelerator. One day of anger and depression, and troll would look like amateur hour.

In an earlier comic he used his power on Ethan’s grappling line after it had been wrapped around a villain in a giant mech suit. The mech couldn’t move without ripping its own arm off.
I dont know if the target becomes unlovable. Immobile maybe, but not unlovable.
Not with that attitude, it’s not

Would the Troll even have the money to have that many tanks all over the city without any of them being discovered?
Villains tend to have the means the plot requires, and in any superhero/supervillain story there’s frequently quite a bit of plot-means available.
He’s got all of this worlds version of 4chan working for him, so yeah he probably does.
