He was already a murderer. Not only did he attempt to kill people in his introductory arc with the people strapped to console-themed bombs, but he even admitted to accidentally killing the guy who was gonna be for PC games. Now yeah, I suppose that’s technically manslaughter, but he was gonna kill him anyway, so I’d count that as murder.
Heh, that’s a great defence, I’m gonna use that next time I’m in court over murder charges!
“Yes I was planning to kill him, but not yet, and not like this! This was an accident and therefore you should convict me of manslaughter! Hell I might be innocent, the dead guy caused the accident by tripping on the bomb tied to him!”
He’s already killed someone, when he first popped up and had the people tied to explosives with game console signs on them. When Lucas asked about PC games instead of the consoles he said he had a mess with that one that he wasn’t looking forward to cleaning up. Implying that that bomb went off accidently.
A lot of people are missing the point. Yes, the Troll has killed people, but this is the first time we know of he has intentionally killed/attempted to kill his target. He’s a troll. He likes toying with his targets, messing with people. If a random bystander dies because you messed up your homemade bomb? Eh, whatever, accidents happen. If a hero kills themselves because of your trolling? You win. But if you kill them yourself? That’s a loss. You lose your plaything, you lose your fun, and you didn’t beat them with trolling, you beat them with strength. I… Read more »

It’s morbidly sick, yes, but this is one of the few times I actually kind of like the Troll’s jokes. Course, some of it is because I think Ethan will be fine since I’m fairly confident his powers are going to save him. Plus he’s dying heroically, after dropping his guard to save the young Gameboy. And the Troll’s probably actually doing Ethan a favor, since he’s probably about to find out that his respawn power still works. Wishful thinking? Maybe. But the clues up to this point have suggested that the Troll’s serum likely did nothing, which I choose… Read more »
The sploosh coming through the hole in his abdomen would be interesting indeed.

Just thinking about it if Ethans powers respawn him to his last healthy state, well he hasn’t been mentally healthy for a while. So what if he respawns and effectively loses weeks of memory?
I’m pretty sure that’s not how this works. If I remember correctly, it respawns to his last physically healthy state and he retains his memories, since I’m pretty certain he remembers the agony of dying.
No idea why you got downvoted for this because you’re 100% correct.
Ethan mentions that he remembers the feeling and pain of dying. Of every single time
And let’s be honest, he hasn’t been mentally healthy in years. (The sole reason to become a super hero was the death of his sister)
A couple of things
1. A person’s mental state can affect their physical health, and vice-versa.
2. There is a massive difference between coming to grips with death and actively pursuing mentally self-destructive actions.
3. This is a superhero comic and powers are malleable based on the whims of the author (looking at every speedster).
4. I thought it would be a funny way of annoying Nicole, just having her show up at Ethans work with him having no recollection of her.

And this is where the next comic is a “Enjoy your holidays, Ctrl+Alt+Del will resume again after the new year!
Usually a “day off” got announced here ahead of time, but I’m not sure how it works with the ‘backlog.’ Now that Tim has a “public backlog,” the CAD site doesn’t actually need to skip the day after a holiday anymore. He can just set up an auto-load, and if it’s all automated, he might not even be thinking about it all that much. But the Patreon subscription would probably still need a day off. Huh, that does feel weird, but so does only 1 comic a week.
Was thinking the same. Having a slightly sharp (like damaged) tip would have made it feel bit more realistic (it’s a comic I knoooooooooow)

In theory, the Troll knows whether Ethan can revive. Or at least he knows whether the serum was a fake.

How is this injury even possible? The pole does not appear to be that overly sharp, so how much force did The Troll actually use to cause this? Or is Ethan made out of paper?
Does the vat just disfigure or does it give super powers? Lots of ppl pointing out that the Troll would have to be really strong to impale Ethan, so maybe that’s a super power given by the vat. In that case, would Ethan falling into it maybe get new/additional super powers? And if they still can respawn, then they can get that additional power without the disfigurement; would be a nice twist to torment the Troll.

Awww. In the “how do we find out if his powers work” pool, my money was on rough playtime with the dommie.
Just a thought that occurred to me! If he respawned and wound up back in her bedroom only to find her cheating on him or that she’s a villain etc

So, either the troll knows the serum doesn’t work, incase this is “just” aggrevated battery
Or he believes it did work, and he’d be theoretically guilty of murder, as this was clearly planned out. Ofcourse, this depends on if Ethan’s powers count as dying, even if he’s respawned. Attempted murder at least.

Wait… so the Troll is strong enough to push a dull pipe all the way through a human body? WTF.
I have assembled enough rented scaffolding that I can assure you that some of those pipes ends can cut. First, they are thin metal rolled into a hollow tube. Next, the ends are constantly being inserted and removed when building/breaking down scaffolding, which can grind the edge down quite sharp. So while I’ve never actually tried shoving one of these through a human, I suspect they could do some damage.
Look, I get it, I see this type of plot device all the time. But I assure you that even if the pipe was razor sharp, it would be impossible for someone of even above average strength to push it all the way through a person’s abdomen. The pipes geometry makes it even worse as there is more area to deal with, and unless you were spinning it real fast, it would just not push through. Take a roast, and try to just push the entire length of the blade of a very sharp knife down through it without sawing… Read more »
Yeah it was even less realistic in Commando because he -threw- the pipe, the pipe was like 4 inches in diameter, and it also went into the huge steam tank behind the guy, through solid metal.
The thing is, the pipe is going through the center of Ethan. That’s right where his spine would be.
Sharp or not….you’re not gonna push one of those through a spinal column.

Troll must have some serious super strength, to get that blunt ended pipe through a human body plus two layers of reinforced fabric fast enough to puncture without just shoving Ethan out of the way. Pretty impressive!

That pole is going right through the -center- of Ethan. In other words, directly through his spine.
Yay. Merry Christmas.
I see red and green, so yep. Ho. Ho. Ho.
I think the appropriate comment should be one from the 1980s:
“Let off some steam!” (well, in this case, its a railing…)
Man, that’s an ugly way to go. But it would let Tim to change out the characters if he wanted to.
Now, I’m expecting non of the key characters die, but I don’t bank on that.
So from a Troll to a coldblooded murderer. Pretty sure that wont change much for his fans tho.
I think it was pretty hotblooded by this point.
He was already a murderer. Unless it wss just another troll comment.
However his arson spree army probably killed someone.
I believe those were just followers of his doing it for him, I remember them catching one but it was just someone wearing a mask.
If you kidnap someone and attach a bomb to them, it’s not manslaughter just because the bomb detonated at a different time than you intended.
Works if you have a good lawyer….
If he was always planning death to be the outcome, then I believe it qualifies as murder
Is it murder if the Troll knows Ethan can still respawn?
Yes, it is definitely Murder. Just because the person didn’t *stay dead* doesn’t mean that you didn’t kill him.
Technically both murder and attempted murder.
Seeing how many fans in real life react to whatever their idols do, this comment feels too real right now.
Considering the Troll is representative for all the channers, kiwifarmers etc. out there…
Yeah. Too real.
It would only be realer if the troll focussed on hating women.
Such beings usually are turned to their fans with only one side.

Even if Lucas does manage to stop him falling into the pit, he’s been very badly impaled and probably with a rusty pipe.
Yah, that’s going to need a tetanus shot for sure.
The sploosh coming through the hole in his abdomen would be interesting indeed.

These cliffhangers are killing me dude.
They’re killing Ethan too.
when did the troll get super strength?? no way you shove a pole like that through someone’s body
You’d be surprised how easily one goes through plywood, and human skin is considerably softer than that.

You’re applying real world physics and logic to a world where people literally have super powers.
