“PayStation Pro. Now with exclusive 100 dollar Condord tax, because we need to recuperate the 400 million dollar loss from the biggest flop in the history of video games.”
I’m honestly surprised Concord isn’t getting its own Console Wars post.
Nothing like your R&D department spending eight years to develop an overhyped, amazing new weapon, which turns out to be a basic semiautomatic that excels at absolutely nothing, and when your soldiers go out in the field they discover a design flaw where the bullet doesn’t actually shoot forward, but backward.
PS5 already felt like PS4 Pro Plus. I’m sure there are plenty of people interested in sinking hundreds more in chasing even more diminished returns; it holds zero appeal to me.
I’m still enjoying my PS4, but they have finally released enough games for PS5 that didn’t also come out for PS4 so I’ll have to get the new one eventually.
I know on Steam it was an interesting phenomenon. The store page had a horrible score and less than 1k reviews. The discussions in other FPS had people trying to latch the success and enthusiasm attributed to one game onto Concord. Then there was the bigoted ones who I’d love to sell a faulty riding lawnmower to, preferably one that flips. Never seen a game so objectively small on steam get so much unwarranted political hate.
Not unwarranted, and not political hate. The game wasn’t hated because it had a political message. It was hated because it had literally nothing else to offer. No ingenuity, no interesting characters because they were as uninspired and average as possible in order to not offend anyone, no interesting game mechanics, no comprehensive story that could be somewhat engaging… Every single element of the game was designed based on a market statistic or a DEI checklist. It had nothing to offer, and the most unique thing about it was the pronouns of the characters displayed on the selection screen. But… Read more »
I dont care about concord but you’re still full of shit (and also not telling the truth but hey, that’s internet)
also wtf is “toxic positivity” lmao…you gamergate dudes are pretty pathetic
Ummm. I don’t think he said it had no political message – he said it was the only thing the game had.
Also “toxic positivity”, however dumb that sounds, was a quote from an interview with one of the developers or something (didn’t delve too hard into this).
He was stating the stuff I read was apparently not political hate despite I would bet a week delay on tim’s next comic that matt responded knee-jerk without reading those problematic posts. That or he did, and is defending them for some disturbing reason.
Matt, I stand by my statement regarding the garbage I was reading. The concord people were annoying me with their attempts to advertise, but there was clear statements of bigotry, from responders, that really sounded like they their family tree moved to Argentina at some point before being a highlight at Charlottesville. Warhammer fanboys are known for an aggression quirk, this was above that. I played outside a training base. My tolerance levels includes a high degree of shittalking, it was our way of letting someone know they were fully in the warhammer tabletop community. What was in the forum… Read more »
I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I miss when these were more one-off jokes. You know… like when you would use the first panel to set the scene, then the second panel to develop it further, the third panel to have something unexpected happen, and then the fourth panel to show the result of that unexpected thing. Heck, I even liked it when you would sometimes take that formula and spread it across a four-parter. Each page being one part of the joke, but each page also being funny on its own. But when you spread the… Read more »
I think it is more a difference in humour. Instead of punchlines shouted at full volume the humour requires a slight investment of the reader. These two are staying in shape, but are overshadowed by the new guy (ps5 pro). The closest to a punchline is the high def reference, which is a reference to both the quality of the screen, as well as the highly defined muscles. Such humour isn’t for everyone. Though I do not really see the differences in humour with the other pages, except possibly the delivery. I’ll say it definitely isn’t 20 pages. This is… Read more »
Its the PS5 pro that was just released and is just a beefier PS5. Hence the overly muscled dude that looks different as the new recruit with gold chains to represent the insane cost of the PS5 pro.
One of these days console companies might try encouraging more proper games being developed (without resorting to bulk borderline shovelware games to pad their numbers)
I always thought “AAA” was a marketing tag that has zero actual relevance on the overall quality of the product. It’s not a guarantee on any level except an excuse they use to jack up the price. If you got 400 people trying to do the same thing, all you end up with is awkward conversations in a stall and toilet roulette.
Actually, this might be part of the issues. So many squeaking shoes from costco-value-packed restrooms, nobody can hear each other or concentrate over the sound.
It’s a generalization on budget. For a modern title, that is best seen in the scope of the game’s graphics. I say “preposterous” because gamers upgrades from a PS3 to a PS4 to a PS5 not because the controller looked nicer each time, but because they expected to get games of a higher graphical quality. That drives prices up. That must be met either by more copies sold, or more post-purchase content sold. It is far, far, FAR smarter for a company like, say, Rockstar, to make one really good game and focus all their attention on making it better… Read more »

What do you mean you’re interrupting Lucas an Ben’s storyline on that cliffhanger??
Right?! That is a serious cliffhanger! I do get if they need a break, and hey, that’ll have us begging for more! I’m so excited to find out what happens! Maybe a mental break of Console wars will ease the tension, hah.

Thank the heavens that there is now an option to search by topic so that I can browse only the console wars and avoid the rubbish that is starcaster and that DnD content.
Now – that – are some highly defined muscles 😀
the chain represents the stand sold separately?
Sure, he looks all tough and macho, but these guys wouldn’t be staring at awe if they knew this new guy was discless.
And had no stand as well.

Yeah, you’d think you’d see a strip of Concord blowing up in the face of PS4s and such when fighting.

internet decided otherwise and sony conceded

Actually, I think this is indeed a one shot; I expect Wednesday will not be Console Wars P99, but time will tell!
This is a one-shot.
Time does tell, but in this case Tim beat it to the punchline. 😄
Tim will tell*
dont you dare not to be an absolute fanboy, the crown will downvote you to oblivion if you have your own opinion!
Surprised we didn’t see the PS5 Pro fall over since it doesn’t have a stand. Or we see that he’s mute because he doesn’t have a disk drive.
Maybe with another angle we’ll see that he skips leg day.
Yet another comic where I have no idea what it’s referring to, and no link for explanation

announced*. Not released yet 😉 (Nov 7th)
Aka why its still in boot camp then.

With how much AAA games cost to develop today on modern hardware? Preposterous.

Yeah I know, I often aim for the traditional “comic book 24”, but 21 just ended up being the perfect spot to break for a minute.
The next chapter is 24, if that makes you feel better 🙂
“perfect spot”=”the spot where I give the most aneurysms”
It’s just a One-Shot to keep you edging before seeing the climax of events.
Think of it as a commercial break. (“We’ll Be RIIIIIIIIIIGHT Back.”)
Loving the Wintereenmas chain, wonder if that’ll be a shop item someday 😉
Given how badly recent product ideas have done, I don’t have much hope.
