The Logical Next Step

March 28, 2018 by Tim

I’m just in a game-designing mood this week I guess.

Far Cry 5’s antagonists have turned out to be fairly ludicrous caricatures of conservative gun-toting christian extremists, so who knows… maybe the sequel will swing the other way!

If the Canadian subsidiaries of a French corporation won’t hold a mirror to the inner tensions of America, who will?!

As an Oregonian born in Portland, I too, find this hilarious! If there’s a franchise that can do Portland justice, it’s probably Fry Cry.

It’s either that or a political thriller set in the DC area….unless that’s Far Cry 7

“Radical Feminists” are not considered feminists, those people have their own name. Feminists are generally about achieving equality.

(I’m not a feminist, but I have a friend whose sister is and she explained the concept to me. I am all for equality, and I do not agree with senseless violence done allegedly to reach that goal. Hence, I do not believe that those who take violent or destructive paths to achieving their goal as being the same as those who take a peaceful path to the same goal.) (There is a chance I misunderstood the statement, but I am currently writing this with the assumption that MOST Feminists are aiming for equality and not pushing forward some twisted… Read more »

The use of “No true Scotsman” here is wrong wrong wrong.
Here, let’s use the text in your link.

Person A: “No [Feminist] is [radical].”
Person B: “But my uncle Angus is a [Feminist] and he [radical].”
Person A: “Ah yes, but no true [Feminist] [radical].”

Person A does not exist.

.

Pretty sure I’m pissing in the wind right now, but I refuse to let this slip by.

Honestly I just brought it up because “Radical [protest group]” gets on my nerves a lot. If someone said “Radical Work Union Organizers” or “Radical Hipsters” it sounds like you are expecting a large amount of the group to be violent or prone to violence. I mean, there are some people who identify as part of [Group name here] that ARE violent, but it feels wrong to point to the exception and claim it is the norm.

Radical Kings I am okay with, though that ninja from early on may disagree 😉

Bulllshit.
Radical feminism is a specific brand of feminism :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_feminism
Radical is not synonymous with extremist in this context. It’s a specific set of idea, generally opposed to liberal feminism.

“Radical feminists” aren’t known for killing people. They are more known for achieving social progress. So… that doesn’t really work out.
But maybe you should try to propose “civil right campaigners”. That would certainly work, right?

So if you want to look at tensions wouldn’t it be the extreme black bloc movement that causes violence when people talk that they dont like? No offense but since Waco when have we seen this scenario even remotely come about in the USA? And with Waco they weren’t aggressive trying to take things over.
Seems like they’d put this in France and make the villains people posing as immigrants to attack modern day society. Driving vehicles into crowds and shooting up local night scenes. No?

Didn’t they try doing this in a movie where they changed the antagonists. Sum of all fears.

lol I live just close enough to portland to know exactly how close to home that shot lands yet far enough to enjoy the fireworks from a safe distance. Berkeley would be another choice location. Could run around fighting the black masked LARPers at either location though.

Hm, what about a Latin American country? I’m thinking GenericLatinCountrywithacorruptdictatorania. Like, that’s the name.
The state of affairs politically and economically in some central and south American countries is rough, so by making a new generic one off the coast of Venezuela or something they could have plenty to work with. As long as they actually make a good analogy, because just a stereotypical rendition would be horrid. There’s a lot of rich culture and they can do a lot with it.

I wonder what would happen if the FC series had a thing where the antagonists were…a bunch of people who are incredibly against everything else, are heavily armed….but are a cult that doesn’t allow for killing.

Hipsters may be insufferable but at least they’re basically harmless dorks. I’m from the Bible Belt and I can tell you hipsters aren’t even a blip in the radar compared to the danger posed by religious cults and the surging number of right-wing militias. The FBI stated last year that the threat of extremist white nationalist violence is at least equal to that posed by ISIS and taken just as seriously, with over 1000 cases of domestic terrorism being investigated and the number of attacks being planned or carried out almost triple of any known jihadist movements against America, right… Read more »

I have to agree with the comic. The proletariat may not be aware of the insidious nature of the hipster movement. Their clandestine attempts to emasculate the modern male with their tofu-vegan-almond-milk infusions, cleverly disguised as “health food”, and other such balderdash, must be exposed before we are faced with an epidemic the likes of which have not been seen since “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”; so pervasive, even our tin-foil hats will not safeguard us from indoctrination! At least the fundamentalist cults and right-wing militias expose their agendas outright; we will see them coming, but the hipster movement is… Read more »

There are hordes of people who genuinely believe that “effete safe space PC Culture limp-wristed hipster socialist feminazi War on Christmas deep state forced diversity insert-fearmongering-buzzword-here liberalism” is symptomatic of Western Civilization’s dying throes and must be staunchly guarded against, and it’s getting harder and harder to distinguish well-meaning satire from the real deal.
