can totally imagine him claw his way onboard the ship and getting the jump on them when they think they’re safe
in space, nobody can hear you scream “F*CKIN’ TOLD YA!”
(always double tap, my dudes)
That doesn’t really seem his style (to me), If I’m honest. That kind of reckless assault (especially after just being beaten and losing a limb) feels more like something for the ‘crazy merc with a grudge’ type of character, the ones that don’t care about anything as long as they kill their target. Grin seems too professional for that.
I can imagine him surviving this, but I’d expect him to first lick his wounds and recover his full strength before retrying. (Especially as this time he already got burned for going in immediately without replacing his equipment first)
I really hope the next panel has Cort pulling out his gun and blowing the guys head off, then shoots several holes in his torso just in case his species doesn’t have their brains in their heads.
Two things… First – they’re STILL in danger, there’s STILL a force both inside and out, Cort’s almost completely incapacitated and Speck’s riding a rickety unstable spider, and probably doesn’t have three minutes to carefully maneuver around a big hunk of Grin and smack his head. Cort can’t shoot, Nyrah’s one-handed, and ALSO unstable and needs to GTFO right this moment. Second – it’s one thing to kill someone in the heat of battle, another thing to kill someone when they’re lying helpless and incapacitated. Everyone has their own code of morals, ether explicitly or implicitly. So, when the threat’s… Read more »
Spec would just need to jump on the body, melt the brain and/or heart and jump back. That would not take long and the spider will just wait for him.
Your second reason is correct, also the narrative imperative must not be violated.
What? Speck doesn’t have his nivium sandals on right now and he melts through material so fast he literally cannot jump from anything. There’s a reason he’s desperately clinging to his spider walker at such an awkward angle when he gets knocked from it – if he lets go, he’s gone.
I mean, the guy melts bullets before they can hurt him. Stop and think about the speed of a bullet, and consider what that must mean for how amazingly fast mimion slime works.
Honestly, I welcome the possibility of him surviving this mess. I really LOVE Grin as a character. Don’t get me wrong, he is a giant pain in the neck for our main heroes, but he is really fun to follow around. So I’m looking forward to seeing him return with some kind of a weaponized prosthetic leg and hold even more of a grudge.
I am probably in the minority but I’ve had my fill of Grin. There are probably plenty of other threats for Cort and crew to tangle with: the Drangalex, the Federation chasing him, getting himself conscious enough to not faint and be able to control the starcaster, and I’m sure there are plenty of other folks out there who aren’t all hugs and puppies.
That said this is pretty obvious he comes back, massively pissed, unless the Federation arrests him (he’s probably not so effective on 1.5 legs).
I don’t see the leg anywhere, so I imagine Speck already picked it up and is carrying it in his walker. Fulfilling the “item laying on my lap in my car” trope is a rare and treasured moment.
The sword is made of material that can kill Mimions. It was mentioned very early on that ithe material is INCREDIBLY valuable. I’m certain someone would spend tons of money to get it. Probably worth more than the ship itself… Even BEFORE it was damaged.
I think they’re better off dulling the blade to make a shelf for Speck’s bedroom; and that’s short of melting it down to make all sorts of things, like that jumpsuit Speck got excited about once. Either way, they need to grab the severed nivium leg so they don’t have to replace it.
I think it can. Aside from the fact that Tim chose it to have the exact same coloring as the walker and Grin cast aside his gun (which could also have shot the legs of the walker), Grin fights Speck as if he’s aiming toward the center. See his downward slash which Speck dodges. I think he just missed, and got the leg. Besides, if it couldn’t hurt a Mimion, then trying to fight Speck with it would be beyond stupid. At best, it’s going to dissolve as it hits him, leaving Grin unarmed. At worst, it’s going to hit… Read more »
He’s just bleeding out, but probably very much alive and angrier than ever before.

No no no spek. turn your ass around and melt the head. In fact go for the rest of the body to just to be sure. A leg amputation is debilitating in the near term but does not guarantee a bionic man out for revenge is not in your future.
When in doubt or facing a returning foe complete and total melting is the only option.

Now, the questions are:
Is he Dead, or just Passed out in Shock?
And
Is he Gonna crawl up the ramp, or turn out to be some Freaky Alien Genotype that can regrow legs?
Yeah, one leg is completely burned off from the acid and the other one looks to be hanging on by some skin and muscle and would probably need to be removed anyways since acid does not make a clean cut.
It’s possible that he’s passed out but alive, Speck’s … material may have cauterised the wound to prevent blood loss (sorta like a light sabre). That’s why I’d like Speck to melt the head, just to be sure.
edit: looks like Grin’s bleeding, that’s gonna be tough to survive.

alright, i am both saddened and grateful that there was no close up of the carnage that has happened to his legs.
also i can’t help but think that he will make a return with like Fox McCloud legs next issue.

Speck would need to get completely out of the walker to get to Grin on the ground. It was hard enough for him to get back in the first time. No one on that team is in any state to finish him off.
I’m prety sure everything about spek is corrosive. Dont need to get out and touch him, just hoc a luggie at his head. That said if he sets the body of the walker down next to grin he can probably reach over far enough to take a good chunk out of the guy.

how is that walker moving? last it was seen there was leg missing and being quadrupedal machine missing leg should make it quite hard to move
The same way a three-legged dog walks. With a hobble.
It’s the future; I’m sure technology’s reasonably sound enough that the metal box that keeps death imps inside from killing everyone on board is equipped to deal with a malfunctioning leg.
Matrix Revolutions, they blew a leg off a four-legged machine. It carried right along with three.

DOUBLE TAP FOR GODS SAKE.
I swear if he comes back later with robot legs, Im going to be pissed. He’s a good villain, but theres nothing more unforgivable than a lack of thoroughness on the heroes part when it comes to deadly enemies.
It looks like Grin is done, but for f***s sakes finish the job…

A lost limb might kindle a grudge in the nicest person.
Agreed. He will be back with cybernetic replacement legs and more firepower in a few weeks/months to get his revenge.
Always make sure the merc is dead because if you don’t he will return and next time it will be personal.
Effectively two limbs, that second leg is hanging on by threads.
If Darth Maul can survive being cut in half, you know he’ll make it through that. And how awesome/terrifying will he be with robot legs?
he survived?? lol. I missed some information not watching the end of the trilogy.
Yeah, but unlike Darth Vader and Darth Maul, the Grin doesn’t have the dark side of the force to survive long enough to get cybernetics to survive.
Nope. This guy is gonna be the Family Guy Chicken and every trope from which he was taken.
Expect to see him like 17 more times before the story concludes.
Like seriously do they just like fighting this guy, you can’t keep “leaving him for dead”
I really hope the next panel has Cort pulling out his gun and blowing the guys head off, then shoots several holes in his torso just in case his species doesn’t have their brains in their heads.

And slip in a snarky remark that he can have prosthetic legs, too.
Or maybe a new employer looking for the Starcaster themselves.
I am probably in the minority but I’ve had my fill of Grin. There are probably plenty of other threats for Cort and crew to tangle with: the Drangalex, the Federation chasing him, getting himself conscious enough to not faint and be able to control the starcaster, and I’m sure there are plenty of other folks out there who aren’t all hugs and puppies.

and don’t forget to loot that sweet ass sword
and quickly grab the broken off leg to speks walker! They can prob have it repaired but that metal is clearly expensive.
I don’t see the leg anywhere, so I imagine Speck already picked it up and is carrying it in his walker. Fulfilling the “item laying on my lap in my car” trope is a rare and treasured moment.
We can see in two panels it’s not in his lap.
Yeah I’m with the gang here. Double tap that prick, and loot the sword.
> Loot Sword
> Loot Walker Leg
…though I don’t think anyone is strong enough to do either…
While I can get it that their interest isn’t with collecting the sword as such. Neither one of them is much of a sword fighter anyway.
But finish the damned job especially since it only takes a few seconds for him to melt the face
The sword is made of material that can kill Mimions. It was mentioned very early on that ithe material is INCREDIBLY valuable. I’m certain someone would spend tons of money to get it. Probably worth more than the ship itself… Even BEFORE it was damaged.

I mean, the walker isn’t affected by Speck’s acid because of what’s it’s made of. If the sword can cut through that then…
Gold resists most acids and iron can cut gold.
Well, he no longer has a leg up on his merc competition.
Gonna need a futuristic peg leg
Might be an odd thing to notice, but nice consistency with the floor details.
Makes it look like he’s crawling away…
He’s just bleeding out, but probably very much alive and angrier than ever before.
When Grin comes back, now it’ll be _personal_

I believe Grin is not dead, but he’s lost the leg and probably won’t be seeing any action for the rest of this arc.
Yeah, one leg is completely burned off from the acid and the other one looks to be hanging on by some skin and muscle and would probably need to be removed anyways since acid does not make a clean cut.

He’s face-down and unconscious. If they can’t beat him like this, they don’t deserve to be alive.
Hard yes, but not impossible; the leg opposite to the one severed should extend outward and let Speck’s seat be at a slope until it’s fixed.
The same way a three-legged dog walks. With a hobble.
It’s the future; I’m sure technology’s reasonably sound enough that the metal box that keeps death imps inside from killing everyone on board is equipped to deal with a malfunctioning leg.
