Minor plot criticism (sorry):
Seeing how he could do remote comms with the triumvirate, it seems really strange that he had to ask this one question to one of the 2 Federation Starcaster-wielders in person, seeing how he seems indispensable to the effort to track down the invading Dranglaex fleet…
I don’t know, we invented the telephone, it didn’t make in-person meetings extinct.
(It took a global pandemic to do that :P)
You’re right, it could have been done with a call. But Major Danton is one person, I’m not sure I agree that the Federation’s efforts to track down the Dranglaex fleet would be crippled by a short detour to meet with a superior officer…
Well, he is one of two people with a WMD strapped to their arm, so I would say he has a rather important role.
I would accept the reasoning though that Quel wanted them at hand if he IS able to find Cort by starcaster link.
Technology is fallible. Someone could listen in, record, etc the conversation. An in person meeting is far more likely to be secure, especially with sensitive information.

All this complexity…..I miss Ethan and his primate-like simplicity
While Ethan in space had some charm. I think this works better with a different protagonist. Take the previous page and the joke on not pointing the Starcaster at his own face. This is not ‘ha ha look at Ethan being stupid again’. This was something natural that had a bit of dark comedy to it. Cort is simply not Ethan. He may have similar features but is not him. And that helps elevate the story to more serious levels it can be more difficult in a comedy one.
Do They have sent the noob then? Tch tch…
He requested the junior Star Caster user so he does not ask to many questions…
Please, be a little more intelligent in your baseless speculations.
Direct quote from 3 pages ago:
. ‘I’d wanted to speak with you and la’ni.’
Quel wanted to meet both, the only reason he didn’t get to is that La’ni was unavailable.
