Giving the federation the chance to attack your fleet with their starcaster without fear of being hit by yours? Its a risk but launching a full attack now would be powerful of course.
I think his plan is to force the Federation to disperse their fleets trying to look for them in the border systems, so an attack over a main planet can be possible due to the lack of optimal defense coordination.
Also, for burning ground strategy you just need to jump close to a planet, bomb it with those cruisers not used in the space fight against the defense fleet and jump out again.

Has the prince been reading “How to disobey sensible orders and run your fleet into at least two functional starcasters for dummies” again?
Not to be cold but you blew up what seemed to be a pretty backwater farming planet of 400,000 people.
Tragic, but a “great victory?” Eh…show of force maybe but I think he’s overestimating the tactical effect here.
Farmlands are a high-value cog in any civilization. Without this planet, food will be slightly more expensive and inevitably drive up the prices of everything else. That’s why so many elites like Bill Gates are buying U.S. farmland and not farming it.
Wait, you do know that Bill Gates literally did that, right? And Mike didn’t claim Bill Gates is trying to make food more expensive, just that it’s of strategic value, so I’m not sure what you’re implying is conspiratorial.
…Is it because it’s criticism of Gates?? Oh no… I hate that anti-vax nutjobs have thrown proper criticism of that butthead into suspicion.
*sigh*. Bill Gates is not trying to starve the world. He *is* trying to do population control in the third world, because he’s a greedy racist, but he’s not a supervillain.
Ehh while that is true, the planet didn’t really look like a highly developed farming world. It looked like some random settlers out in the boonies that did some farming because there is no supermarket to buy food at.
400K is Iceland or Bahamas sized population on a whole planet. That is a backwater, yet 400,000 people wiped out is more than we’ve seen in a war for a long time…. and the Federation probably longer.
Mining planet, too, and resources are important to win a war.
Source: That’s how WW2 was fought. Germany needed food so they just starved the conquered civilians to death. Also they conquered whole nations to get oil.
And that’s how they lost – when the Russians and other allies stripped the Axis of oil.
Wars require resources – men, military gear, fuel, etc. – and thus wars cannot be pursued (much anyway) lacking those things. So controlling or destroying them change the balance of power notably.

Ah yes, the good old “I’m too proud and important to have my perfect decisions be questioned by my subjects who just want to help advising with some common sense. This will not at all be the cornerstone of my fall”
…is an alien concept of popular Earthling media. It bears no relevance to our plans of Galactic, Genocidal Conquest With Insufficient Numbers of Forces On Our Side.
They forgot to have their master plan vetted by an 8-year old child. If they could spot the flaws, you must return to the drawing board.

A lot of people seem to be on the side of “evil villain taking obvious ill-advised villain route” but I’m seeing this a bit differently. I don’t see this as a “wait for my brother so he can do more heavy lifting” – I see this as a “I’ve already asked so much of my brother, it’s time we pulled our own weight now” Given the reactions of the rest of the cast, I’m not sure anyone expected an entire planet being destroyed was even on the table. I mean, when was the last time something like that even happened?… Read more »

It only just now occurred to me that the first couple frames where he ordered his brother’s ship captain to be reaaaallly careful (read – slow) coming back could be a ploy to have power to himself for a while longer.

“Dummies”? I’d argue he qualifies for at least intermediate level…
Intermediate level of Dummy?

Bill has voiced his depopulation agenda; simply affecting prices would actually be less sinister.

Then, when they follow his plan to the letter and it all falls apart, he clenches his fist and yells “FOOLS!”
Ah the classic “Don’t ask logical questions of my ill-conceived plans” CO, just what every military man loves to serve under.
I wonder how many of his own people will die in this dickhead’s pursuit of glory?
