Naw its just a catalogue of the best bionic [replacement] arms they have to offer. I hope it comes with free healthcare heh. Jokes aside I wonder if he actually would respond like that to Cort “joining” them? He can’t fully trust Cort but either way they dont need to keep searching for him. It is also possible that this is La’Ni confirming that she CAN track starcasters in use (and its nonstop healing the big bad guy atm) since she actually managed to find one. Im sure she tested tracking their other one but maybe that wasnt enough for… Read more »
Having a potential third Starcaster user would certainly improve their capacities. At the very least it frees up some forces.
Pretty sure La’Ni being able to detect Starcasters was already confirmed (unknown if other dude can also do it) but that’s still a proximity thing. I’d expect she would be able to sense Vectanix healing, but that only helps if she happens to be in the right part of the galaxy. (Just like she happened to be close enough to detect Cort, but not the planet being erased elsewhere. )

Get ready for Lance Private (second class trainee) Cort?
Probationary of course
(Nyrah can be Sergeant Nyrah in charge of keeping him on the straight and narrow)
Not a bad philosophy…but maybe the Prince is waiting that kind of movement and only for the fear tactic, is able to attack and destroy or at least mop a rich planet…
I think this is the strategy of hot headed prince. He talked about breaking the back of the federation. That might mean the fleet, but probably it is something else entirely. It can he production, incredibly rich planets, or attacking the triumvirate. Metaphorically paralysing the enemy, removing the danger.
I guess a risky run with the full fleet past the larger defences, bombard a big planet or two, fighting many of the reinforcements before disappearing again.
It might be about breaking them spiritually. If it gets out that multiple planets were destroyed, faith in the federation will drop. Citizens (and troops) don’t count in rich and poor worlds
It could very easily be a false feint. The Prince has a good grasp of military doctrine, knows the Federation will react to this. He also knows the Federation knows they wont blow up a planet with resources they need.
Federation redirects fleets to protect vulnerable worlds means less defenses at resource rich worlds, making them easier to take.

So, redirect defenses from the worlds the Dranlex actually want, to the worlds they merely want to destroy? Not a very tactical decision, especially since they can and will divide their fleet with the singular ship that can destroy the planets to destroy the planets, and the actual fleet that can pillage the planets to pillage the planets.
I assume he isn’t suggesting they spread out the main army (which they need grouped to deal with the Dranglaex fleet anyway), just refocusing their border patrols to focus on the more likely targets for this ‘sneak in, blow up planet’ strategy.

One thing I don’t get: Considering that the Federation mostly consider Cort too much of a liability, why don’t they just remove his arm? Would the Starcaster protect him from that somehow?

Living, colonized planets hold biomass and perhaps high tech, but most resources to strip from a given star system are in lifeless asteroids and moons of more manageable size. And after thousands of years of mining those rocks, when you’re ready to strip the remaining planets, it makes more sense to break them up first. So the Drangalex have no incentive to avoid rupturing planets, whatever their value. It might be to their advantage to break up planets early in the crusade, to give their insides time to cool, and form into rings. Given that living beings can live quite… Read more »

I like this guy. This guy is smart. I am wondering if he is going to try and court Cort or tell them to cut the arm off when Cort least expects it. Either way he isn’t letting the starcaster NOT go out and blast Dranglexi.

This can go either way. Vicen Droma is the one Quell intended to appeal directly to with regards to Cort anyway, but the situation has escalated and Droma seems like the highly pragmatic sort that might prove Nyrah right..
Paper reads: “The arm implant surgery room is ready, Vicen Droma.”

They count in “they can’t protect us”
