Ok this space battle is escalating quickly, 2 starcasters from the federation. Given 1 with little experience. And a part of their fleet against the dragalex fleet that wasnt really prepared for this. They planned a hit and run attack.

This could become ugly.
But since there are more issues comming it cant be the end of the war.

I wonder if Cort is able to put out strong enough beams to instakill the cruisers. I mean he definitely can, but does he have enough control to pump out the right amount? I imagine it as giving someone the power to suddenly bench press the world. If you then give an island to lift, how will you apply the right force? Not so much to tear it asunder, not too little that you can’t carry it.

One could incapacitate or even kill him after a single hit. The other could be no more than a fighter shot.

Well he was shaving off the top of mountains when training with nyra so i guess that would be sufficient to slice through ships.
And you dont have to be exactly right, so you slice through 4 ships at once its not a terrible thing.

Hitting an extra enemy or two might be fine, but it would be awkward if there are allied ships among that unintentional extra damage.

With allied ships all around, as well as jumping in unexpectedly, it’s pretty important to only fire your giant doom laser in the right direction.

Which is why someone with all of the tactical information in front of her is calling the shots.

Hence why I thought one outcome would be the Dragalex not getting the starcaster and it getting destroyed by a Federation Starcaster blast or it drifting in space at a high speed into a sun or something to ensure it is destroyed/inaccessible by everyone.

Yeah, well, it’s really hard to throw something into a sun. Actually, nigh impossible. With so much potential energy from where you throw it, you basically need to pump as much energy into the deceleration as you would need to start a rocket from the surface of the sun to your throw location. Sure, this is all fantasy, but my impression with Starcaster so far is that the basic laws of physics still apply – conservation of momentum and energy, that kind of stuff. Of course, this is all an exercise in storytelling rather than a course on Newtonian gravity,… Read more »

Probably One the best things of the SW Episode III. How calmly Obi One and Anakin are flying to do a turn and see the full battle.
Maybe waiting for something alike here.

The right arm of the pressure suit should be interesting?

The Starcaster itself can heal so it will probably take care of the cold/pressure damage to his hand, unless the entire forearm of the suit is a forcefield (Speck’s walker shows they can do small scale forcefields no bother).

2 Starcasters vs an unprepared Drangalex fleet with a beginner starcaster… this is gonna be a slaugher

I don’t do Patreon, but I wonder if the long term direction of the story is Cort becoming a famous, instantly recognizable war hero with a doom laser on his arm and a target on his back — exactly what he *doesn’t* seem to want, and the kind of thing he usually seems to run away from kicking and screaming at nearly every opportunity.

If 2v1 was a stalemate until the Dranglaex attacked, 2v2 seems a catastrophe for the Federation. Maybe Speck will become “that mimion who found out a Starcaster can melt” after all?

It was 2 v1 because the Gragalex made the federation believe they had the odrosian starcaster. So the Federation thought it was 2 v 2 where it was in effect 2 v1. Thats the whole storyarch with nyra and why she is there.

2 v 2 will put it back in balance the federation had the upper hand but didnt know it. In war you have to sometimes lie to the enemy to win.

Do note that those pre-stalemate calculations are mostly based on the (known) situation before that 100-year ceasefire went into effect. Back then the Federation (unknowingly) had the upper hand, and likely would’ve won if they’d fought. However, that’s likely not the case anymore. The Dranglaex have supposedly spent the past century building their forces to close the gap with the Federation, to the point where they were now confident enough to commence the invasion despite being at a 2v1 Starcaster disadvantage. (And potentially even risking a 3v1, should the Federation succeed at reclaiming the missing Starcaster before them). As things… Read more »

I smell a vote coming up about whether to take what appears to be a good shot without the LT’s permission.

I am reminded of a certain Gunnery Chief drilling cadets in Mass Effect 2 “Once you fire this husk of metal, it keeps going till it hits something. That can be a ship, or the planet behind that ship. It might go off into deep space and hit somebody else in ten thousand years. If you pull the trigger on this, you’re ruining someone’s day, somewhere and sometime. That is why you check your damn targets! That is why you wait for the computer to give you a d*** firing solution! That is why, Serviceman Chung, we do not “eyeball… Read more »

Why do I see cort accidentally zapping the other fed starcaster? Why do we have one starcaster? Dreadstorm’s bridge was built by the same people who built the trade center, and the other was zapped by the new one sneezing at the worst time….

Oh boy, I hope Cort won’t overdo it. I also hope Lance Major Lani keeps a close eye on her freshly recruited starcaster ally because he likely gonna need her help.

You say it in a much nicer way. I still want to know why random plates on such a key point of a ship are falling.

Strong suspicion his priorities are going to misalign with the Lance Major’s at some point.
