Speck flying off in the middle of a space combat will change things for the worst.
Expecting his actions to save the dragalex in some way either by stopping cort firing of by having cort trying to save him.
Either doing that, or during the sensible thing and having a Plan B ready to go. 😅

I find Speck’s final statement incredibly ambiguous. What does he mean?
a) “Are you going to stay with him, JUST LIKE ME?”
or
b) “Are you going to keep him safe, so that I don’t feel as guilty for LEAVING NOW?”
Speck is saying “I [am trying] to decide if WE’RE safer “, not “I [am trying] to decide if I’M safer “. I’m perplexed, how people are reading this as if he’s ready to leave alone.
Oh, very easily – “we” could mean “me and my ship”.

Speck is just being sensible. He has no actual duties to perform or orders to follow, and in this chaos nobody has the time or inclination to give him any. So he’s doing the only thing he can that might allow him to contribute: making sure their ship is ready to go if they need to flee.

Cort really got some amazing friends/partners there. He should buy them drinks for the rest of his life, especially since he can’t enjoy them anymore as much due his starcaster detoxifying him all the time.
