I think it’s just the general fear of anyone wielding a weapon that powerful, especially when you weren’t expecting them. I don’t think they fear the Lance Major specifically. If it was about her personally I’d have expected something like ‘It’s La’Ni’ or other personalised (nick)name instead of the generic ‘the other Starcaster’. They came here ready to fight one Starcaster who’d be potentially crippled (unclear how much sabotage they expected) and at the very least thoroughly outnumbered. Now they’re dealing with a full fleet already (and wanting to pull back), and a superweapon they weren’t expecting to be in… Read more »

No sound in space: The comic tends to get that right, but not in this strip. Or is it actually not a mistake, somehow?
I’ll give the benefit of a doubt and say some debris hits the ship.
Or an artistic rendition where we ‘hear’ what the blasted ship hears while looking in a cockpit of another. The advantage of media is that we can see and hear things that people in the story can not.
But good spot. I didn’t even give it a thought.

La’ni seems to have a truly advanced grasp of the Starcaster. She’s the only one seen in space without a suit and flying. It is hard to say how much the prince damaged himself when blowing up a single dreadstorm, but 3 or 4 took him out if the fight (https://cad-comic.com/comic/the-starcaster-chronicles-09-09/) It might be more easy on the Starcaster if they just do one cruiser and regenerate on between, but it already suggests once more La’ni her powers are far beyond any other known Starcaster. The Yayvinia was an Evoc brown one though, so it probably isn’t as strong as… Read more »

If they get out with the starcaster its worth it, appears that weapon is worth a lot of ships. It can cut through any ship even shielded so losing a few ships is not a big deal when you can destroy the other sides ships a lot faster.
Perhaps but I don’t believe that. If you lose too many ships though, you get a military disadvantage in standard ship combat and those starcasters can’t be everywhere.
They’ve already one a great victory by taking out one of the federation’s to Star casters. Even if that chip is lost to space, and they’ve evened the playing field.
If they escape with the second star caster, Ryder will be needed to even it again.
It wouldn’t be lost to space if the enemy ships all get destroyed, La’ni could easily grab the starcaster and bring it back to the federation. We know a starcaster can be held without any harm to whoever is carrying it, this fight either ends with them at an even 2v2 or it remaining a 1v3.
Or, the Drang meet their end here 0v4, the Federation collapses into civil war with rival Starcaster-possessing factions, and Cort becomes a fugitive once more, playing the three new sides against each other.
I am sort of wondering how or if Tim plans to keep the crew of the Aphellion together
A crushed Dranglaex threat ground down to minimal forces would be very handy if you didn’t want to have Cort as an active duty soldier for the rest of the series
The problem is that the Federation also has two. Even if the Federation had none, the war of attrition could prove fatal for the Drang’laex. You see that with an engagement like this there are quite some losses. The Federation is a huge lumbering beast of many planets and civilisations working together, where the Drang’laex is a single fleet of ships. Any loss to the Drang’laex is felt much worse than for the Federation, tactically speaking. If they then also meet a Starcaster it becomes a game of Starcaster tag, where if the wrong ship is destroyed by a Starcaster… Read more »

We all need to make a pact to normalise “Solur Tetronavus” as the new slack-jawed “Oh, fuck me…” Start using it in everyday conversation immediately.
Nope. It is known that the looks of the Starcasters can vary (Hence Kelias’s comment on page 13.08), so it could just be cosmetic difference. If they do have different functionalities, nobody has discovered them yet.
That blast seems to be going from head to toe of that ONE capital ship… which seem like unnecessary overkill. I know space is big but, the ships were “in formation” last we knew (and told to hold formation) if you are going to make an arc and have that much precision to do that to one ship, you would think you could arc to take out multiple ships.
Well, she is moving, so I’m guessing she’s just firing while flying, which would make the beam move.I’d imagine she also wants to get off a shot asap, which could throw them off instead of waiting to line up multiple ships which could result in her allies being killed during that time?
It is an evoc class cruiser that gets blasted. The brown smaller one. You can see from the long tubular engines on the side. The silver ones are the big ones.
She might blast as short as possible to not destroy herself. It was very bad for the other prince when he did it, and he wasn’t flying on Starcaster power in space.

Hmm. Now was that a fired beam or her simply flying Through it at speed?
Well, it could be worse for the Dranglaex at this point
Their entire fleet could be trapped in a black hole’s gravitational pull?
A virus infected the crew causing spontaneous projectile vomiting?
You are going to be even more surprised. It’s not “The other Federation Starcaster is here.” It should be “The other Federation Starcasters are here.”
He doesn’t know that quite yet.
And if Cort manages to hit one of his ships, that commander will like the news even less.
Which is why he’s going to be even more surprised.
“This is getting ridiculous! Now there are two of them!”
Two starcasters and fleet versus raiding fleet trapped in a defensive position could equal a one sided massacre….
Huh things are going well for the good guys, can’t wait to see how they **((_($ things up.
Was that the Yeyvinia? 😅
Well, is a Starcaster…but still, the Major is feared between the Dranglaex? Seems to control the starcaster better than the prince.

As yet another possible scenario:
Dranglaex make off with a starcaster
Something happens to La’Ni and Cort winds up dual wielding a pair of starcasters, making it 1 (with 2) vs. 2.
Which would raise a whole slew of questions about the mechanics of how they work that presumably no one in universe has tested out…
Would the stress on the body double and make it more physically draining?
Would the healing factor double and make it easier?
Are there things that you could do with a pair that you can’t do with a single one?
I am sort of wondering how or if Tim plans to keep the crew of the Aphellion together

*mumbles* Solur Tetronavus, not this again…
*stands at attention* Sir yessir!
Maby it means something else? Like Solar Ray or smt.
Without any context other then him seeing a ray destroy a ship.
Do we know if there’s a difference between the gold and white Starcasters?
Nope. It is known that the looks of the Starcasters can vary (Hence Kelias’s comment on page 13.08), so it could just be cosmetic difference. If they do have different functionalities, nobody has discovered them yet.
