The war is not a single battle. They lost a Starcaster to the enemy, but a large part of the Dranglaex fleet has been destroyed. As the Dranglaex can’t rebuild their fleet in this galaxy (yet), they have been severely punished. It is uncertain if a glass cannon like the Starcaster can truly weigh up against their losses. They likely need time to get good with it to boot, although they probably are better at adapting to the Starcaster than others. Though that is just an inclination of myself. From Cort’s perspective it is better to not fire and fall… Read more »

So, now it’s actually 2v2? I wonder how quickly the Drangaex can train up a caster vs Cort…
I’m not sure wearing two Starcasters would truly help. Even if we consider double the healing power. They can already fire one with the power to destroy themselves. Two would only get them back into the fight quicker, but overall they aren’t likely to fire more beams in a single fight. The healing isn’t that fast.
Spreading them out basically doubles your total power, while having the same amount of energy, but spread over two people.
I find myself reminded of an exchange in the Hunt for Red October: “Could you launch an ICBM horizontally?” “Sure. Why would you want to?” Even if it’s possible, I sincerely doubt that there are enough benefits to it to be desirable. As it stands, someone using a Starcaster can already destroy a planet if they’re willing to put themselves out of action to recover. So they’re already at the point of diminishing returns for raw power. And setting aside the long-term wisdom of repeating that kind of destruction with any kind of regularity, it’s very unlikely that the simple… Read more »
I don’t see them fighting about the starcaster (considering now they each have one) but their society did vaguely seem to function on ‘asskicking equals authority’ so they may have more conflicts over who is right.
The more compliant and level-headed of the two seemed to be the one who already had a Starcaster.
I’m curious to see if the more aggressive brother’s attitude will change with a Starcaster of his own – they might only have had that level of civility because of the power imbalance.
Could end in a Casear vs Pompeius civil war even if the two brothers end up fighting over the course of their crusade or on who is supposed to become the next emperor of their empire.
I don’t think they would be fighting about the starcaster per se, but the thread we’re commenting on was about training. Only another starcaster user has knowledge to train in the ways starcaster is used well. And the emperor Shmeldor (whatever his name) was pissed off at his younger brother, so I’m raising doubts, how good a training he would provide.
Actually, he might even be “you’re not attuned, we’re giving the thing to this other dude”

I *seriously* wonder whether taking the shot would have stopped the prince’s escape with the starcaster.
I’m thinking it would have vaporized a lot of small craft while cort’s eyes were on the big ships only, assuming he hit. I am more curious how the suit wouldn’t get punctured, and him left gasping in the cold void of space at best.

I think it’s interesting they are scanning for smallcraft. Wouldn’t the first priority be to find out if the Starcaster was truly taken? They might have destroyed the transport that carried it for all they know, or scared them off, as the losses became too great.

I really need to read this series from the beginning. I hate having to not look at an upload for a few weeks while this runs its course.
So they got away. Great…
Choices have consequences.
I imagine Cort going “so I just started blasting” could have had friendly fire casualties and disciplinary consequences while stopping the escape.
The comic is set up so if Cort becomes too rogue or dangerous they lop off his arm.

The brothers will likely fight about it instead of cooperation, so…
best case scenario.
You know that raises an interesting question. Could you wear two casters? If so would it double the healing thus allowing more destructive potential?
I’m almost certain if the patrons played their cards right, this will happen.

All crew – mass evacuation!
Uh sir, why?
…the princes are fighting again
