I wouldn’t actually be surprised if that was how they were meant to work. Sure, people might mostly use their dominant arm for such things but you might need two focus points for more delicate work. And since they’re meant for creation and blowing things up is just a side effect…
They also have different patterns on their heads
Kelias (older brother, blue cape, just got a starcaster) has an arrow-like pattern
Vectanix (younger, daddy’s favourite, got a starcaster from the start, golden breastplate) has a diamond shape on his skull.

I’m amazed at the level of control the big brother has over his Starcaster (and how the female Starcaster could use it to create a shield/fly).
I wonder though, if the wielders could lose their arms/be killed so easily, is there something Cort might do differently? Are the bodies of the Draglex more strong and resilient towards attacks?
so far all starcasters have slightly different designs. That could indicate slightly different ability-sets or different specs.
it could also be that the wearer’s psycho/physio-logy determines some of the abilities. giving gold prince more control because he has more restraint?
or maybe it’s just a skill issue 🙂
If you are talking about the one who just schooled the new starcaster guy, pretty sure that is the younger brother. The older one is the one with the new starcaster. Or was this meant as a sarcastic comment that the new starcaster is bad at handling his newly gained power?
Nope – not being sarcastic. I was just genuinely confused about who was the older one. The one in gold armour sounds much more grown up and level headed than the one with the cloak.
And as long as they don’t change outfits, I should be fine.

All Kelias wants is a little recognition, to be acknowledged and stand beside his brother. Something for which he, probably after decades of standing in the shadow of his older brother, is willing to sacrifice thousands of his soldiers. Yet his brother, who was JUST told to be a leader and show some wisdom, slaps him down again, effectively telling him to remember his place. Oh yeah, that’s going to go over very well, it’s totally not going to widen the rift between the two and cause a falling out. Would have been far better to embrace Kelias right now,… Read more »
Kelias is the older brother who only now has a starcaster. His younger brother Vectanix was the one who got to wear the first starcaster they acquired. What I understand from what daddy just said is that he wanted Vectanix to show that of the two brothers he is still in charge.
Where it says older, just read “more capable brother (in the eyes of father)”
Daddy said that Kelias is a weapon of war, and then asked Vectanix if he lacked the strength to master said weapon. So you are very correct in that he wanted his son to be in a charge of his other son, to control and wield him properly. However, as I said in my first post, I think Vectanix is going about it the wrong way.
A well-trained but often kicked dog will bite its owner eventually.
I wonder why their father doesn’t just wield the two Starcasters himself? He looks to be still youngish. The father also seems to have the schemes and politics all down pat.
Does his sons need to guard the space borders and he guards their planet?
@Marsh It looks like the father had the starcaster previously but removed his arm – evidenced by the prosthetic. I suspect he passed the starcaster down as he was getting on in age
That or he realized that if he’s ruling the Empire, he can’t be out there expanding the territory of the Empire because his rivals/competitors can stage a coup while he is busy.
I don’t think he trusts Kelias enough for a hug right now. He wants to see his brother burn himself out using his new starcaster.
To his mind, his father has ordered him to pick up a powerful but highly radioactive weapon. So, he figures the smartest thing he can do is burn through that weapon’s ammunition as quickly as possible, in hopes of discarding it before its poison can take hold.
Showing his strength and putting his brother in place before he recovers while also offering him a path to that recognition is a wise decision. If he follows through and gives him training and opportunity in a fight, that will be even more wise.
We are not sure how much time passed or if they have a healing station to assist. He also might just have more fortitude as a soldier and is weathering the storm better.
If the Dranglaex stayed on their genocidal course, probably – but then they’d have only themselves to blame, for being unwilling to stand down and fighting to a bitter end.
In a more optimistic scenario, losing the war and having to surrender could (hopefully) cause them to have to adapt a new way of living, change their culture over time for the better (read: not genocidal), etc.
Well, for now it’s academic anyway, since they got a second Starcaster.
Yes, one single battle that was rather high in losses is really minimal compared to that sort of imbalance. With three, the Federation could have 1 on offense, one on defense, and one literally only waiting to block their starcaster. There’s no way they wouldn’t lose at least this many ships in the near future. Also, what is thousands on lives on a galactic or even planetary extermination level?

I’ve never noticed this before, but their eye shadows do reflect their order of birth, huh? Kelias has one line coming ouch of each eye while Vectanix has two.
Nice detail there. Now I can always know which one it is even when they change their clothes for battle.
I thought it was their rank, the brother with two streaks is younger but more “senior”.

I’m guessing this has been answered before, but if the force of a sun can’t burn through his arm fast enough, how was Danton able to be killed by an explosive? Like, I’d think a sun’s power would vastly outmatch a bomb.
They are more than generals – their titles are “prince”, which implies their father is the Dranglaex’s ruler. If one prince would kill (or even “just” greviously maim) another, it could have serious political consequences for them, if they have their supporters, who could cause a civil war over it, etc. (admittedly, we saw nothing about it, so that’s probably not the kind of sory, that Tim wants to tell here) Plus there’s a factor of Kelias possibly turning against Vectanix, if that’d happen (for now, he gets to keep the Starcaster – if he lost it together with an… Read more »
He doesn’t have permission to make an example of his brother for his self-serving recklessness. It’s also possible that he doesn’t actually want to, but is playing up his anger a bit to really emphasize how this shit cannot be tolerated.

I wonder if Kelias was stupid enough to put the Starcaster on his dominant hand? When he passes it on to his son, daughter, or heir, he’s going to need to remove it off his hand and get a prosthetic.
At one point, Cort tried to remove the StarCaster from his arm with a knife, but was told the StarCaster would heal it before the blade even reached the bone. Maybe more drastic measures are needed?

Both are shitheads for thinking every other race is inferior, however at least Yellow Bro cares about his people, and I can respect that. Blue bro is just out for power, he sucks.

Why does Kelias say “Herk!” in the second panel? He doesn’t seem like he’s been pushed or anything yet, just an arm deflected.
I like that the brothers have Starcasters on different arms. Makes it easier to tell them apart.
And I just noticed their different colour schemes and armour fittings. I’m still having trouble with names though. That’s always the harder part.
The race name is hard to remember too. But you can start with “Dongless” and make it more edgy.
Or start with Drangleic, if you’re still into Dark Souls 2 …
never played it
Even their skull pattern and eye shadow is different.
I get the feeling bros are gonna get into major beef one day and one of them is going to end up with two, one on each arm.
It would be somewhat funny if having two starcasters completely fixes the problem with getting hurt by them.
Nobody ever thought of it before because just having one was already awesome, collecting two near impossible.
And Cort eventually gets the other one from when the Lance Major dies.
Now the question is, can Starcasters be fitted onto legs?
What about an octupus being who has eight arms?
I wouldn’t actually be surprised if that was how they were meant to work. Sure, people might mostly use their dominant arm for such things but you might need two focus points for more delicate work. And since they’re meant for creation and blowing things up is just a side effect…
Oooh. I like that theory! Makes you wonder, eh?
“Wait, you have FIVE Starcasters? Where’s the fifth?”
“Heh. Guess.”
“… there’s no way you’re serious.”
“You wish. Wanna see?”
“N- OH COME ON…. OK, wow, yeah. Damn.”
“Bam, baby!”
“Alright, alright, you made your point. Can you stop waving that thing everywhere?
“Uh. No. I kinda have to let it breathe. It chafes like you wouldn’t believe.”
They also have different patterns on their heads

Nice spot – I mistook it for his armour before.
if one starcaster can eff up its wielder with excessive use, two(even at lower usage) would probably kill the wielder
I don’t think he trusts Kelias enough for a hug right now. He wants to see his brother burn himself out using his new starcaster.

Assuming Kelias will recognize that wisdom is something else entirely though.
Not burned or withered arm then…just exhausted…still seem to me that the bounding was more gentle that Cort’s…
We are not sure how much time passed or if they have a healing station to assist. He also might just have more fortitude as a soldier and is weathering the storm better.
Cort was also fatally wounded and a bit low on blood when his bonding started.
And there were a few things going on. Minor inconveniences like being trapped and pursued by a bloodthirsty bounty hunter.
There is an important point here both brothers are missing
How many Dranglaex lives would be lost if the Starcaster balance had stayed at Three Federation – One Dranglaex?
My guess is “All of them” eventually
Younger brother’s stupidity might well have saved them all
If the Dranglaex stayed on their genocidal course, probably – but then they’d have only themselves to blame, for being unwilling to stand down and fighting to a bitter end.

The point was to hurt him, not to rip off the whole arm, so I don’t think the starcaster shot with the same force that it takes to blow a planet.
Vectanix is apparently experienced enough with his starcaster to limit its output to a hand-shaped burn rather than a full power blast.
It’s not that he can’t physically remove Kelias’ arm, it’s merely that he can’t afford to. Every asset is needed to win the war, even idiotic ones.
(Also probably morale concerns when one general openly dismembers the other.)
They are more than generals – their titles are “prince”, which implies their father is the Dranglaex’s ruler. Putting on the Starcaster for the first time probably took a huge toll on his body and now everywhere hurts from everything.
