Is it though? The right eye is roughly fd6d44 – orange. That side of the face is illuminated slightly different, there is still a glimmer of color change there.
That’s more ‘jovial’ than angry, or sad. Many anime/manga and comics draw the lower eyelids coming up for characters being cheeky (whether they’re about to do something bad, or good). It’s a bit of an exaggeration of how some people’s faces contort for similar emotions.
That and I think what Zeke is feeling is a sort of relief, like he didn’t want to kill or hurt anyone really, but he couldn’t risk being captured agian. So he used the only tool he knows – violence, up to and including lethal force if necessary. Zeke wasn’t sure if Ethan was correct in that Scott and Ethan mean Zeke no harm. And with the explosive events of their last meeting, zeke wasn’t gonna leave his freedom and life to an unknown. Scott had to stand down first before Zeke would even consider standing down. But once Scott… Read more »

Wouldn’t it be funny if Zeke kills Scott… And Scott suddenly respawns (and no longer paralyzed), and Ethan finds out his powers now affect those within a radius of him? 😅
Oh, true. I’ve seen that a couple of times. One of the most memorable ones was in Nove Covert Ops (StarCraft 2 campaign/DLC), when Nova agreed to Alarak’s proposal. While Protoss with no mouth, his eyes were clearly telling he’s smiling.

While his eyes are still red, the mechanical parts he is using have changed. If he is angry, sorrowful or thinking, it is usually the top-side or both. This is the first time in this encounter, he just used the lower-side part, which makes the expression different. It appears more playful.
Would be interesting to go back to the older comics, especially those where he was in the storage room, and check if this has always been the case.
When human’s smile big, it pushes our cheeks up and causes the lower eye lids to move up. Zeke is just emulating that action, giving him a more readable human expression. The eyes Zeke had were purple after Ethan freed him from Eugene, went red after the bomb. The only times in 1.0 his eyes went red was when Zeke went into attack mode after Lilith had splashed him with water, or when the whole penguin thing happened. Basically, when he gets killing mad, or as we call it: “Seeing red.”

Good for Scott
It’s hard to imagine being as afraid as he must have been right then; and still being able to make a courageous decision like that
Maybe Zeke’s comment about being paralyzed got through to him

Gallows humor has a time and place, ZK. You’re not in an episode of South Park.
ya i would see him more putting an arrow down to block scott from fire. he knows ZK may not know ethan is potentially powerless and if he was feeling murdery toward him would have already snapped his neck thinking he would just come back.
Honestly, if it was accompanied by an appropriate punchline, so would I. But then, we aren’t dealing with the stakes that Zeke’s current audience is.

I mean, this is the first time we see Scott really treating ZK with any shred of empathy. Beforehand, ZK was always an “it” which isn’t different here, perse, BUT he is talking to ZK as if ZK is a person instead of a thing.

I think Zeke is good. They could have taken the shot, could have killed Ethan, could have done a lot of things with their speed and strength if truly set on a course for murder.
But the biggest point here is that even in jest, Zeke said ‘if’. That tells me that murder is no longer intended.

I don’t think he will. He wasn’t expecting Scott to drop it. He knows Scott has effectively disarmed himself and is no longer a threat. He doesn’t know what else to do, so he cracked a dark humor joke.

And then, next comic, Zeke says “And I’m all about the lulz”, shoots Scott and then puts enough pressure on Ethan’s neck to partially crush the esophagus. Then Zeke leaps out the window, leaving a gurgling Ethan to vainly reach for Scott…….
And then, starting Friday, we get a month-long Chef Brian marathon.

Not nearly as funny as the line you just delivered, my dude lol.
Gutsy choice
And the correct one!
I think I can see the old Zeke coming back! Despite their dark humor, Zeke’s eyes seem almost joyful… potentially even genuinely happy.
Despite having a clean shot and the risk to himself, Zeke didn’t shoot. I think Zeke wants companionship more than just pure revenge.
I’m intrigued to see where they go from here.
Might seriously be asking the question
“No really, would it be funny? I’m still working on this humor thing. Would it be funny? It’d be funny right?”
And, it would be, from a certain point of view.
Ok, I’m color blind here. What color are Zeke’s eyes in the last frame?
Still red.
Still *very* red
Is it though? The right eye is roughly fd6d44 – orange. That side of the face is illuminated slightly different, there is still a glimmer of color change there.
Just a consequence of shading first and using the “screen” blend mode to add the glow in a digital art program.
Red, same as the previous frames
Still red, but they look sad to me, rather than angry…

Nah, that’s not sadness. That’s him making a “cute” gallows humor joke. You can take that eye position to be a sardonic smile.
Darn, ok. Thanks!

He will be SO. PISSED. to shift from a DPS hero to a support one.
I wouldn’t call him a DPS. He’s more like a tank, as he can take abuse in place of others for little/no consequence.
I’m sure Ethan would be having another moral crisis considering what that kind of ability could have done that one time he encountered deathblood
There have already been people around who die.
Always surprises me how well you can portray a smile from a character with no mouth just by which side of the eyes the eyelids are most visible

I went back to the archives and couldn’t believe it. It has been *three* years already!!!
Closest I found was this one when Zeke is simulating emotions:

you’re right. Think of it as a squint smile, u know with your eyes a bit shut 🙂

ya i would see him more putting an arrow down to block scott from fire. he knows ZK may not know ethan is potentially powerless and if he was feeling murdery toward him would have already snapped his neck thinking he would just come back.
No, what i meant he had their messages and charge in the action and sees his friends being choked and nother at the gunpoint and he attacks.
Yes, and my point is that if he suddenly arrives he wouldn’t mindlessly charge
Well done, Scott!
Zeke: You know what, i just do it for the lulz …
Like a True Gamer *teardrop*
