Okay, so I lied. Monday wasn’t the end of the Idiots in Space. Today is. I’m rescinding my previous ending. I’m the writer, I can do that.
I took a little bit of time and examined the formula for the Choose Our Adventure story, and the differences between the traditional format, and what I’m doing here. One of the biggest differences between the books and what I am able to do with an online comic being voted on by the audience, is that with a book, if you hit a death ending, the story ends abruptly, but you can go back and start again. You can try again and get a better, fuller story. That’s not really feasible here.
So I thought about it… I want to have death end the story, like in the books, but I don’t want you left in the lurch if the story doesn’t progress to a complete ending. That’s no fun. So I figured that if I went a step further, and detailed the consequences to the overall plot as a result of Ethan’s death, even though it’s not a full story, it might bring some closure to however far we get with each adventure.
So that’s what I did today, one more comic to bring a little bit of closure to the arc we didn’t really get to finish in another sense. The life insurance thing was my ace in the hole to allow me to do this again even if Ethan died. Originally I’d planned it to be the start of the next adventure, but I thought I’d let you in on the secret now, so that you know that we can in fact do this again sometime.
And thank you all for the tremendous feedback about this little experiment. It’s great to see so many people enjoyed it as much as I did.
I am taking into consideration (some day) writing a Choose Your Adventure comic book that you can purchase, but I have no idea when that might come about. There would be a very large amount of work involved. But I have heard your suggestions and it’s something I’ll think about.
