Plan B

March 26, 2018 by Tim

We’re taking a short intermission from our storyline this week!

Also, if you’re seeing this, you are viewing the site on our new server! The move was successful, your DNS has updated, and you are all set going forward! Yay!

We did (unfortunately) lose any comments made since yesterday evening (our last database export). We apologize for that.

Otherwise, if you see anything that doesn’t work as it should, let me know via the comments, or by tweeting @timcad or @fuitad!

That’s… actually not a bad idea. Battle Royale on the high seas.

I hate to say it, but I really hope this happens. My group of friends and I would play the snot out of it! So long as we can have 4-pirate teams

Has to be all galleons though, and you’re ships start with 0 supplies requiring you to scavange multiple islands for the supplies and of course various treasures. Gotta keep the looting up.

Oh man, I would buy that game in a heartbeat. And then at the very end, a sudden death match on the winning ship between the last survivors…

Also, it’s clear now that Sea of Thieves needs sky pirates.

3 weeks after the implementation of this
“Wait, this is a literal version of No Man’s Sky…but this is a lot of fun”

Any chance you will fix the SSL problems on your site? Because there’s a mix of encrypted and unencrypted content. Firefox and Chrome block a lot of content – including your CSS, unless I turn off Site Security protection.

Hey there… Can you email me some of the errors you’re getting at fuitad [at] gmail [dot] com? I’m seeing errors in Safari but not in Chrome and Firefox… Thanks!

Funny. I was seeing it in Firefox and Chrome. When I allowed the resources to be fetched, they remained in the cache, and the page validated. If I cleared all browser history and security exceptions, the problem came back in both browsers.

It looks like the changes you made fixed it. Neither browser complains about mixed security on the page elements, and CSS is working consistently.

I just did some modification that could have fixed the problem you were seeing. Let me know!

As much as I am annoyed by Fortnite’s prevalence (I guess I wouldn’t be so upset if it happened a year after PUBG’s popularity died off), a Sea of Theives naval warfare based battle royale ish game would be actually a lot of fun. It’d be the perfect game for those people who wish that the 10% or so of their time playing shooting the thingies to make the stuff with the people go down was 95% of the game.

There is Blackwake. Bit of a Guns of Icarus clone but quite fun.

Lost my comment, but was no big deal really. Was just an over exaggeration of Sea of Thieves to modern day Battleships to aerial combat via Guns of Icarus. All done through DLC, Subscriptions, hate, and microtransactions.

If I remember correctly, I also had a comment before you guys moved. The only thing is that it was done a few days ago.

His post is pretty innocuous out of context, however his snipe about Ethan comics harkens back to his far more troll-like comments in comics past, where he is just being needlessly abrasive about some of the previous A&D comics.

So this particular comment seems like another abrasive trollish comment, again deriding Tim’s Ethan arcs.

Eh, I like SoT for what it is. It’s a mindless romp where the griefers are on the same level mechanics wise with the people who want to just have a good time. I don’t think it’s designed for playing through hardcore until you reach level 50 of each type. Some minor progression would be nice, added ammunition on your character, added hardpoints to your ship for more cannons, even allowing a third person on the Sloop would be nice. That said, turning SoT into PUBG with boats would be a horrible thing. I’m already totally over the battle arena… Read more »

I think a better idea would be a merging of the concepts- we all have done the “free for all mass massacre time” thing, but what if it was a battle royale of groups of people? Maybe you have a set of 3 people fighting alongside you (with friendly fire dealing 1/5 damage to help stop trolls/griefers) and then you are supposed to fight as a unit or something. Honestly until SoT this would seem like a pair of incompatible concepts (especially given the prevalence of trolls and the like) but now it seems like maybe it is reasonable

So….Rainbow Six Siege on Boats? I could see the interest for something like that, but why not build something a little more ground up for that instead of turning Sea of Thieves away from what it is to fit some industry pattern? Instead of modifying a game to do this, build an IP from the ground up. There is a serious lack of new IPs in the marketplace. Sure we just got a rush of a few this year, but most everything seems like either an imitation of something else or a sequel to another game. I CRAVE ORIGINAL CONTENT!!!!… Read more »

Totally playing catch-up on comics, and this reminded me of my little guy. His favorite glider is now a Viking ship, complete with paddles and wave animations. Not exactly SoT:BR, but slowly molding together.
