It seems to imply that Janora asked a dumb question, “Is it alone?”, because Janora and Cass were flying together. I don’t see how that’s a dumb question, as they’d only spotted the one enemy at that point; assuming anything about the opposing force would be inappropriate (such as “we fly in tandem, so must they”), and looking for additional contacts seems like the right thing to do.
Yeah, single ship scouting missions are useful as they can tell alot about an area and are easy to hide AND to top it off if it does not return knowing its flight path still gives valuable intel. a patrol on the otherhand what Janora and Cass are doing is sweeping for enemy ships (scouts or otherwise) to not only defend the fleet and give for a warning, but also to fend off or stall combatants. two very different objectives.

Just say it’s an increasing number of bogeys and you don’t know where they’re coming from. Might be more.
Ships that small have very limited range. Cass and her wingman were launched from a base, we saw that at the start of the issue. To have a squadron here means there must be a capital ship capable of deploying fighters, reinforced by the loss of communications.
That means there is a *very* large capital ship, or more likely (and far worse) a battlegroup. With a war having just started that means its a vanguard force…which is very bad.

No reply from Geminus robably means either no FTL communications, or, comm-jamming.
Cass and Janora were already introduced at the beginning of this chapter. They were the ones eating lunch at a cafeteria. You can see it’s Cass, she has the same scar above her left eye.
Tim is lampshading this trope. In this particular case, it’s Janora who has a crush on Cela that has survived (so far).
Remember the law of suspense. until theirs a Body they’re not dead. and even then it’s iffy. automatic ejection systems, the explosion happened behind the ship which tore it apart but the cockpit remained intact enough, gimmicky Backta tanks that can revive who we mere mortals would call dead back from the brink. Hell Sheperd went a couple of years in a vacuum and was still brought back to life.
Or she filled her moment of glory and will be dead because it furthers Tims’s vision. heck, he is one of the few authors I love and hate for killing the original Ethan. so he has no bones about cutting a few heartstrings. #GameofThronessurvivalrates
Cass was literally just named yesterday, IIRC. Before then, they were just “the blue person who went to get more pudding.”
In the short time we’ve seen them, I really like Janora’s character. I’m hoping Tim decides to use her in the future. But realistically, I feel like he just introduced her to us so we could watch her die.

Hey, is anyone else getting a popup/redirect when they try to go to the next page? It keeps opening Google Play for some “draft kings” app.
“Is it Alone?”
Say’s the pilot with a Wingman.
It’s really weird why your comment has six downvotes in only three hours. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it so far as I can see.

And a communications disruption can only mean one thing….

Anyone else getting video ads that cover about 1/4 of the page?

I’m getting ’em, too, and doing it on a 1080p monitor.
The Dranglaex are jumping in at full force.
It’s serious, a named character has just been killed.
She/He/It must have shown picture of their Sweetheart before leaving base. Or they had one more patrol before retirement.
