Kind of how I feel about Prime 4. Saw the trailer for it and it was just.. more Prime. Disregarding the pshycic thing, there was no real change in UI, or combat, or barely visuals.
Felt more like it was a DLC for Prime 3. Then again, that’s how I felt about Prime 2 (for 1) and Prime 3 (for 2) as well. Wish I was more excited for it – it’s Metroid after all! – but I guess I’m just Primed out?
Proudly haven’t bought a single Call of Duty since I got Infinite Warfare back in college because they hyped the storyline, which ended up sucking anyway. Big AAA single player games like God of War and the Spider-man games are so much better.
At least those sort of make sense given how the real life rosters change annually? It’d be nicer if they just…updated them, though. It’s not like they’re making any other substantial changes year over year, despite their claims.
Well, I do feel you should try to innovate and improve upon the formula to warrant a sequel to a game in my opinion. Of course, you shouldn’t forget what made the game great.

Pretty much sums up Nintendo. While they were doing unique things with the Wii and Wii U it wasn’t until the Switch with its portable nature that they seemed to exit the war and end up in their own little universe where many would have a Switch in addition to another console or PC. Speaking of PC, I wonder if they’ll get a closing page. Like a bunch of PC tourists standing around with binoculars wondering where the entertainments gone. Meanwhile the Playstations will probably be celebrating and overblowing their role in their victory to an audience of no one.… Read more »
To be fair, ‘many or most have a Switch in addition to another console or PC’ is a pretty good note to end on for Nintendo. That’s not ‘exiting the war’, that’s pretty much winning the war.
I’m not sure I’d agree they won the war. We have no plans to buy a Switch 2 and our family, from one generation to the next, has owned every generation of Nintendo sold. Almost certainly we will pick up a ROG Ally or Steam Deck for our portable gaming, fully recognizing that we will miss out on some Nintendo exclusives but our kids and family have outgrown Smash Brothers and MarioKart (mostly, not entirely tbh).
Pretty much same here. I have a Switch, but its been gathering dust for ages because with the exception of exclusive titles anything I can get on it I can get on Steam… and honestly I find Mario, Link, and the rest of the team aren’t as big a draw today as they were when I was a kid.
Maybe its just because I’m not a kid anymore. I’m 39. I’ve explored Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom and all the others. I’m ready to move on to new locales and let the next generation hang out with the old gang.
One thing you have to realize was that Nintendo was only ever briefly a home console company. It’s really been a portable console company. You can see it by their portable consoles consistently outselling the home consoles.
Heavily depends on the genre. Many games don’t need a great story (or any story) to work, so as long as they refine the mechanics and gameplay, I’ll still play the sequel (and DLCs).
A good example are most grand stategy games. I did enjoy Crusader Kings 2, and I do enjoy Crusader Kings 3. Same with Civ (though I haven’t played the newest one yet, from the reviews it might be a case of “or worse”). I’m very much looking forward to Slay the Spire 2.
But for RPGs especially… yeah, better get me something new.
There are always exceptions, take Fallout New Vegas for example. It uses the same everything from Fallout 3 but is still better in every way. (Personal opinion) Storyline, hidden dialogue, intriguing DLC, exciting random locations that tell a story… honestly I could run my mouth for ages so I’ll shut up now.

Every Metroid Prime game has been awesome though, so, ‘more Prime’ is exactly what I want. For those who want more of the original style we did just get Dread a few years ago.
Loved all 3 MP games (for the most part), too! They’re all part of the “Prime” storyline, so I don’t get the hate on them looking ‘samey’. That’s kinda part of the point.
Different POVs or UIs can be done for different stories.
I’d be looking forward to this one, if I had a switch.

No longer ending poetically on page 100. You ruined it Tim! Lol
I wish they’d write letters on old Poké-Guns and get the old games on the Switch. Maybe with connectivity to Pokémon Stadium as Arceus intended.

I guess joke is that Nintendo would sell us incrementally changed old games on each console with little to next backward compatibility?

I wonder what comic he will do for the Switch 2 when (or before) it releases. I was kinda flabbergasted to see them talking about 4K during that Direct.
Yeah? The PS4 Pro was 4K in 2016, nearly 10 years ago.
(Or at least marketed as such, even if it wasn’t outputting it natively, and “marketing as such” is all we have for the Switch 2 so far as well)

Pretty much sums up Nintendo from the Wii on. The Gamecube was the last one that they even participated in “the war” with.
After that, the realization that they must make a profit on their hardware (instead of taking a loss on it) prompted the “Let’s just do our own thing” direction with Nintendo……a direction that infuriated the “Hardcore Gamers” as casual gamers used Nintendo to get into the hobby because “this is just fun to play with”.
Is the Poke-gun for taking prisoners?
It’s for poking prisoners.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty releases it’s next yearly reskin.
They are still doing yearly releases?!? Who knew.
Proudly haven’t bought a single Call of Duty since I got Infinite Warfare back in college because they hyped the storyline, which ended up sucking anyway. Big AAA single player games like God of War and the Spider-man games are so much better.
Also the Maddens and Fifas and whatnot.
So glad none of those games are genres I enjoy playing.
At least those sort of make sense given how the real life rosters change annually? It’d be nicer if they just…updated them, though. It’s not like they’re making any other substantial changes year over year, despite their claims.
Lies. The game was incredibly new
We got Palworld in the end there 🙂
if it aint broke, dont fix it

It’s also why they pretty much made the Switch. It pretty much combined the portable consoles with the home consoles.
I feel this way about a lot of sequels. I don’t mind similar content but when it’s the exact same (or worse) I lose interest.
