A friendly competition?

Recently I’ve been kicking around the idea of putting together little mini-tournaments online for some games. A set number of participants, a schedule of games, some sort of playoffs, and then some modest prize ($50 gift certificate or something) for the winner.

Initially I was thinking about doing this for Backbreaker. I haven’t been into a football video game for a long, long time (NFL Blitz), but Backbreaker caught my attention. It doesn’t have the pedigree (or license) that Madden does, but it’s a fresh and fun (although not perfect) physics-based take on video game football. And personally, I’d rather play without the NFL license. I love the idea of creating a team and logo and taking it to the field, and I thought it would be even more fun if we ran a little league, right up to our own “Super Bowl” of sorts.

UFC Undisputed 2010 came out this week as well, and if I’m reading correctly, it looks like the game actually supports ladder-style tournaments through their website, which is a huge incentive in the whole “easier to manage” department on my end.

So, I don’t know… let’s test the temperature on this idea. Shoot me an email with your thoughts, and if there’s enough interest, perhaps I’ll start working on something in the next week or so.
