They do have a lawyer, it’s just that Lucas is the only one that knows who they are and their number. Ethan isnt allowed to know that information to avoid exactly this situation.
I get that games need to simmer, and maybe age like a fine wine or scotch. But do they announce a game ‘soon’ when they just put pencil to paper? I mean other than EA.
Unfortunately they do. There are so many games out there, they need to start the “hype” as soon as possible. So as soon as games start development, even in the planning/storyboarding phase they’re getting the word out there. Just like in the movies and TV. It’s one way to gauge interest, whether they think a new IP is going to be good.
It seems to me that’s not what they neccessarily want. When a lot of these games come out, I’m like “Wait, didn’t that come out years ago?”. Obviously they have big marketing teams with big budgets, so maybe they know what they’re doing.
Yeah, I sort of wind up like this. When there’s a lot of hype about a game but it’s not available and I therefore can’t get it, I wind up forgetting about it and then, later, often thinking I already got it and played it and it was forgettably bad because I don’t remember what playing it was like.
This happens to me so many times. Also, Prime video flooding its front page with entries for upcoming new shows/seasons that stick around forever creating genuine but utterly impotent interest. By the time the content is actually released, it’s also finally disappeared from the front page, and if it returns I’m by then conditioned to filter it out as non-content anyway. The entertainment industry as a whole needs to heed the classic writer’s advice of “show don’t tell.” Until it materializes as an actual product I can consume, it is worthless to me. Earlier attempts to generate hype will only… Read more »

back in the summer of 2018 my wife saw a game on Amazon for preorder that she new I’d love. It was marked as a 12-31-2018 release. She didn’t know to check about the status of the game, it was basically just announced and development hadn’t really started, but she was excited to get it for me so she made up a card for my Christmas that indicated part of my Christmas was this game that would be arriving in a few days. Sadly I knew the story on the game, and I didn’t think it was set to release… Read more »

five month is quite decent for a “Soon” if you look at Blizzard timeline for example 😉
While blizzard has branded soon to be between now and end of world … it doesnt mean publishers should use it

I get the “soon” label is so open to speculation, I’m also ok with a game studio taking their sweet time and getting it right. Blizzard vs Bethesda for instance.

Star Citizen Kickstarter was funded to the tune of 2.13 MILLION dollars in April of 2013. It still hasn’t even hit closed beta yet. It’s funding to date across all platforms has brought it over 250 MILLION, including a private donation of FORTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS earlier this year, which saw the donator take control of 10% of the company’s stock and put multiple directors on the Board of Directors. Even with all of that, they’re only “hopeful” about having it hit open beta sometime in 2020. 7 years after it was funded, and 5 years after the initial projected… Read more »

Wait, they *DON’T* have a lawyer? How is Lucas not freaking out that they don’t have a lawyer?
Ethan really is his own special brand of nutjob isn’t he? God I love this comic.
Glad to be back with these two for a bit. ?
Wait.
THESE TWO DON’T HAVE A LAWYER?! HOW?!
They do have a lawyer, it’s just that Lucas is the only one that knows who they are and their number. Ethan isnt allowed to know that information to avoid exactly this situation.
That… that makes a lot more sence then I expected.
Five months in game dev time isn’t “soon”. It’s damn near “INSTANT”.
