As an early Christmas present, I am going to give you the next two comics early. Friday’s comic will be posted tomorrow (Thursday), and Monday’s comic will be posted on Friday, to wrap up this chapter before the holiday. This means there will be no comic post on Monday, and then we’ll pick up the regular schedule again next Wednesday.
We could think that this is exactly what Ethan was planning, to break Scott and make him help…but I can’t think Ethan being so manipulative…
I’d think he “manipulated” himself into making the leap of faith and to start trusting Scott again.
I don’t think its like that. They just worked things out between them incredibly well. If this was real life I’d be so proud of them I could burst.
How much to hire your companion mother?
No, I think this is actually a very “Moves in Straight Lines and Doesn’t Break For Yellow Lights” approach – maybe the alcohol is acting as a depressant and tamping down his usual hyperactive self
Oh hi again, Mr Bot! You changed the copy, well done! But what ever happened to your Companion Mother? Is she still doing well?
Wait a minute, several WHOLE dollars? Gosh!
I’m sad. I thought I won against the bot; there were several days between posts and they gave me hope. Then disaster struck and something with the 2FA broke and now I’m completely locked out of the account I created in an attempt to stop it. So here, in the end, the bot defeated me, and it sullies my good username on this site. Oh well, I haven’t needed an account all this time – perhaps Tim will grant me a blessing and somehow block the username from being allowed on the site, so I don’t need to see it… Read more »
Creating an account won’t stop the bots. It just designates the real you from the guest post imposter.
I have your account name and email address on the block list, but since I’d previously approved posts by you, the system insists it is whitelisted, and won’t catch them as spam.
Two people being reasonable and coming to an understanding? Madness! What is this world coming to!
Well, it’s a work of fiction so anything can happen
The fight is still there, it’s just kinda on pause. They’ll need to revisit it again, and I don’t know how Zeke will feel about Ethan trying to do a mediation with its attempted murderer.
But hopefully when they come back to it, it’ll be less a fight, and more a… discussion.
Their*
It makes sense, actually. Even if it’s for different reasons, they both want to find him.
How does the title of this chapter (brannigan) fit in to the events of the title? Bit confused.
Fantastic writing however. Love it.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/brannigan
Brannigan can mean both
Both of which fits the chapter 🙂
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a brannigan is either A) a drinking spree, or B) a squabble.
This chapter is basically an alchohol induced argument, so the title seems quite fitting, imo.
Brannigan is a term used for a big argument people have while drunk. It kind of fits, even if they’ve calmed down and are seeing more eye to eye now.
Plus we got two pages to go, and Ethan just made a huge ask. There’s a non zero chance the fight can restart.
Random aside:
I hate the phrase “non zero chance”. i understand the concept. I use the concept. I get th math/theory/ideas and how it is a helpful phrase. I have a higher degree that uses this concept.
I hate the phrase, because my brain, even with all of that knowledge still shuts down for too long trying to parse through “non zero”.
Yes. This is a “me” problem. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Even if they disagree about Zeke, it’s still in both their best interests to find him.
Huh, this does make this the best teamup to find Zeke. After the incident, Zeke would be motivated to make a completely secure location. If he was smart, any traps he’d set up would disable but in a city of supers, scaling them to normal humans would be difficult. Still, Scott is likely to take any competence from Zeke as justification that he’s right, and plan accordingly. There’s many paths here from Scott will apologizing, to Scott adding in fail-safes into any gadgets he gives the team. Either way this will be a fun ride.
I am hoping he has learnt from this all and won’t be adding in secret fail-safes. I may disagree with Scott but would respect he has learnt at least if he was like “Oh from now on all of your throwable controller things have emp grenades in them” and argued with the team about that, even if he made that contingent on his help in the future. But if Ethan finds out they have them in by ‘accident’. … I think that would break the team apart.
Is it me, or has this comic been archived as Ctrl Alt Del instead of Analog & D-Pad?
Woohoo! Reconciliation!
I know people have been saying this for a long while now, but man what a great chapter! I’m among the many that have followed CAD since the early years, and while the old timeline gave us lots of great moments, it’s wonderful to see just how well Tim’s writing and characterization have come. Keep it up!
This strip seems to be tagged as part of “Ctrl Alt Del” series, and not “Analog and D-Pad” (when I clicked “previous”, i got the “Unbaked” comic, and it’s showing in the “Ctrl Alt Del” archive).
Woops, my fault. All fixed now.
Nice Christmas present! Thanks!
Enjoy your holiday @Tim, thanks for the increased upload schedule 🙂
Thanks Tim! Have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
I really like the line “I owed you this fight up front”. It’s poetic and I think it’s a good representation of the fact that while he does still believe himself to be right about Zeke, he can see that he, at the very least, went about this in the wrong way.
Hmmm… Well done, Ethan. Call him out, make him understand your point of view, and get him on board! Now he just has to get Lucas on board (he’s already offered once) and they have a better chance. However if they do, Ethan is the only one that get approach him for obvious reasons. They never did find the master’s hideout, might be a case of the master’s offering to repair Zeke over Ethan’s friendship with Zeke. Will make a dramatic moment for sure.
What Scott doesn’t know is that Ethan quietly whispered the last two words.
“…as bait.”
What a phenomenal issue this has been so far. It’s real, it’s raw, and the writing is so strong. It feels like two people who are hurt, who lash out, and who have a fundamental disagreement… But not to the point of melodrama. It’s two friends–family, even– coming together in a place of fear and pain to realize that what scared them both most in the end was the thought they might lose one another’s trust and friendship. It’s good stuff. Great stuff. Possibly the best issue this entire webcomic has ever had in terms of writing and character development.… Read more »
Surely Scott can see that this is a good idea. A broken, potentially murderous ZK out there in the world isn’t good for anybody. He and Ethan can fight about what to do with ZK once they find them.
That was genuinely a twist I wasn’t expecting
This story is fricking amazing! I never expected such introspection and downright drama. I tip my hat to you good sir!
Oh good! Despite the talking, I was worried one of them would blow up and end the friendship.
Also, Scott has a _really_ nice apartment.
I admit that I figured on a 50/50 of that as well but, to quote Vin Diesel “Family”
I was thinking the same. Is he rich or something?
Does anyone else feel like Scott running some form of location program on Zeke at Ethan’s behest may come across… badly? Like they’re trying to hunt him down to finish the job?
Glad that nobody got thrown through the window.
