crashing issue + weak battery life on controllers is my main reason to skip this generation until improvements are made, until then quite library on ps3,4,wii,switch(growing),phone(and ever growing),phone & steam+gog pc libraries will suffice
seeing as how sony and microsoft seem to want to push their games on pc to have access to a bigger market, I don’t see the point of going for either of their consoles if you have a good pc ^^
Agreed. I was looking, and the only game I absolutely wanted on console FF7, but that’s not enough to make me buy a whole console. I’ll stick with my switch and PC.
Plus I think they said something about it coming to PC a year after playstation or something anyway? With the way they’re putting the game out in tiny chunks I kinda wanna wait for it all to *be there*, regardless.
Steams has FF VII Remake……..is that different then REMASTERED? I agree with going back to PC as the primary platform for awesome games. The consoles are expensive and in order to get all the cult classic games (Halo, Assasin’s Creed FF, anything Mario, NFS, etc.) one would have to invest in all of them especially for the ‘exclusive’ titles. My FAV console was the first gen PS3, it was backwards compatible with most PS2 and PS1 games. This crap of not being able to play the previous gen games on the new console is horse crap, nothing more than forcing… Read more »
From a tech point of view, no its not. System architecture is a really complex art. We’re all lead to believe that anything digital should be able to run anything else digital as long as it has the right ports and enough “firepower” because that’s basically how computers work. Computers were originally called universal machines for exactly this reason though, and they suffer in efficiency because of it. Consoles do not suffer that same lack of efficiency, but building them to be able to interface with the previous generation of technology would re-introduce that deficit.
I wonder if and how this will find its way into this comic series. Like the PS army selling their working weapons and artillery and ammo to the PC Master race for some bucks for new development while a cautious PC4 asks if it wouldn’t be wiser to keep those weapons and stuff for themselves instead of pushing money into new things nobody knows will work?
That sounds like a really good and fun idea. And like how the PC Masterrace is both in awe and jest about those games while the PS are gritting their teeth and smile while thinking how conceited those tourists are.^^
Another path besides the tourist trap is both sides selling off military surplus to a bunch of redneck PC’s who then are seen blowing shit up in the back woods some where with a crate of beer.
Could you help me find a PC about $400 with the processing power of the Ps4/Xbox Series X that I can plug in my TV and turn on with a controller? Cause sitting in my office to play video games seems terrible. Doing the whole PC thing seems very expensive. I also don’t want to have to maintain the damn thing like I do with my work PC. Consoles just seem simple compared to a PC. If there is something I am missing, I would really like to play PC games I have missed.
Wait…I know that Sony doesn’t want it to go to PC. The only one they have released on PC was just Horizon Zero Dawn. Did I miss the memo that they’re planning to release more? I thought Sony wanted to keep it console exclusives? Considering that I haven’t heard of GoW going to PC yet.
Say whatever else you will about Nintendo, but their hardware generally doesn’t suffer from this kind of problem. They take their hardware development about as seriously as Tonka took dump trucks. There’s a reason we say nigh indestructible things are ‘made of Nintendium’.
There not bulletproof my partner’s Switch had that Joycon drift issue twice.
Though give Nintendo credit they replaced them both times.
Where my PS3 years ago broke down within a month and it was a ballache with Sony to get it sorted ended up having to threaten to make a chargeback on my credit card to get some resolution.
Microsoft support for my Xbox one when it’s Blu Ray drive failed again decent it was only 10 months old they took the console and replaced it didn’t have to fight much.
Uh, hello? Joycon drift? Nintendo wouldn’t fix it for free until they got sued? And then they didn’t even fix it for the Switch Lite, so your whole console is bricked if you get it? Any of this ringing a bell?
Nobody says Nintendium anymore because Nintendo’s quality went off a cliff.
i have had every console since the nintendo, minus the genesis, and the xbox one x. the only one i have ever had a problem with was the switch. drift issues, and charging port. nintendo did fix the charging port out of warranty, (18 months, and after much debate over the phone) i have replaced the joycons thumbsticks between 2 switches 2 times each. it was easier to just order replacements on amazon for 15ish bucks for a pair than deal with nintendo (sending the whole unit in for 2 weeks). i think its clear that they rested on their… Read more »
I had one stick slightly drift downward after two and a half years of ownership. When I finally got around to calling Nintendo, they just asked me to try a few simple fixes on the phone (recalibrating, updating, etc) and then just gave me a slip to send them both in at no charge. Call took like 15 minutes. Got brand new ones back in a week and a half, and just needed to use my Pro controller in the meantime.
Sure, there’s problems with it, but at least now it seems like they’re doing the right thing.
right but the point is it was still easier to buy and replace my own. not to mention both of the switches did the same thing, and it was within a year for both. also of note, i have never had an issue with any other console. minus my 8 bit nintendo. after a while it sure gets finicky with games not loading, i remember reaching a point where i just had to use the game genie all the time. im not saying i hate nintendo, but of the big 3, they have proven the least reliable to me. i… Read more »
Join the discussion…beg to differ, Nintendo has had many a fault over years also. gamecube in particular was a steaming pile of design flaws. nothing is immune to failure
curious what sony infamous yellow dot will be. people often forget sony had issues prior to the red ring.

No games to speak of, tons of issues, artificial shortages and ridiculous price gouging… Gives me zero incentive to buy a new console until maybe some time next summer after they’ve fixed half of that, dropped the price, released some games and (hopefully) released a PS5 that comes in black.
Till then, I don’t mind replaying some old favourites for the 3rd-6th time. Already a month into Fallout 4 for the 3rd time. I’m good with waiting.
Couldn’t agree more only had my PS4 cause of ff7 remake and if Square Enix wanted to make money they should put it on the PC.
Microsoft already see PC market as money making and moving to see games as a service Sony I bet is thinking the same lines
I choked on my coffee this morning. Went from “Holy crap, this is epic” to “PPPPBBBTT!” in about 1.8 seconds.

Hey Tim. Don’t know if it is too much a hassle, or if you have your reasons, but is there a possibility, that when you do a news related page, that you link to said story? You do sometimes, if you write a description, but otherwise like here, there is none. And I don’t keep up that much on the gaming stories as I used to, so a context would be nice. It was also some of my favorite parts of the CAD collection. The small context providers added to the old comics. Now if it’s not gonna happen, then… Read more »
Got a Series X in the living room. Only crash issues I’ve had have been with Black Ops Cold War, which is currently so broken you have to turn off 4K and ray tracing or after one or two matches it freezes so bad the entire console shuts off. And that’s not even counting the part where, even though it is supposed to be backwards compatible, if you try and play the Xbox One version on the new system it errors out almost every time. Solid work from Activision, the only company so far to actually charge you for the… Read more »
Agree, not all of us are up-to-date with the latest news and releases, and some of the references just goes over my head.
The style, setting and artwork of the conosole war is absolutely fantastic, but a bit more context would be appreciated.

I don’t think the issues are that common. In FB groups the % of people having problems with consoles is <3%. Of course with every generation launch, there are some problems and you may have bad luck… but it's really uncommon. My PS runs smooth for now, and I hope it will stay that way π
I think minor issues here are being played up for comedic effect. π You know, going off the age-old wisdom of, “Don’t ever, ever buy a console at launch, unless you want to pay to be a beta tester.”
PC Master Race is too busy deciding if it needs to just accept the Book of the EGS into their faith, or excommunicate the heathens. They’ve also got this streaming pandemic going on. The kids and adults are mostly fine, but the older, slower citizens who just can’t keep up are starting to catch the Stadias and need to be quarantined.
Naa loot their weaponry and pose them in embarrassing positions.

In the UK another issue is our data infrastructure. Xbox Ones for example need multiple restarts to play games at times if itβs not in the disk drive. And the recent mass of updates actually meant some us couldnt sign in on release day AT ALL.

It differs from FFVII Remastered in that FFVII Remake is a real product, and FFVII Remastered is a Mandela Effect.

well, remember PC tourist bus, I’d guess ms and sony camps could set up souvenir/used goods shop for pcs to shop at

It’s true, Joycons did more harm to Nintendo’s reputation than anything they’ve ever made before
As I recall, the N64 joysticks had their share of issues. Drift on the Wii U stick was also a problem for some people.
seriously? the joycon issue, dude, a pain in the ass.
I’m aware of the Joycon issue. I’ve had the joycon issue. Still a better issue to deal with than system crashes in my opinion.

I can imagine the Red Ring of Death to look a lot like a scorched hole through an Xboxs head.

I see some notes here that there were issues with Quick Resume and some games — resolution seems to be that MS has disabled the feature for those games until the issue gets fixed:
