To be perfectly clear, while I certainly understand the concerns about introducing micro-transactions (see above), I fall firmly on the “meh” side of this argument.

Yah that LITERALLY was the first thing I thought of when I heard the news: its one thing when it’s cosmetics in a game where Stealth isn’t a huge focus, but my understanding is(and apparently yours as well judging by a few comics ago) being able to conceal yourself within a bush could potentially allow you to win the match, whether you have clothing that blends in even slightly with your surroundings or not could also potentially do so, which is probably why my first thoughts are of how their gonna balance things like camouflage clothing, when camouflage in general… Read more »
Generaly movement gives you away more often than what your wearing. Even someone in the gilly suit is pretty noticeable if you catch them moving. Likewise just about anything you’ll be wearing can hide in a bush fairly effectively unless the person saw you dive into it. I still wouldn’t want to wear high visibility yellow even in a bush.
Sometimes a more camo outfit might make you slightly harder to spot but not always. A reject from Macbeth is going to stand out as much as mr vibrant yellow jacket if you end up in an urban area.
Movement kills camo, that’s true, but anyone who did multiplayer in stuff like MGO knows how important it is having on point coloration is.
Hell, having your armor the right color for a map can even let you get away with more in fricken HALO.
not gonna lie, I loved switching to white armor in Halo to make me harder to spot in snow covered levels and it worked quite frequently.
One important thing to keep in mind is that there’s no “one size fits all” camo. Even a ghillie suit will stick out like a sore thumb next to a tree, in yellow cornfields or worst, in or near buildings/crates/etc. I used to wear a yellow camo jacket that stuck out like a sore thumb in most places, but when the circle ends near Gatka or Yasnaya wheat/corn/whatever fields, guess who’s now camod out of their mind? I now use a grey camo, which blends better with trees. There’s a white one which now only works near buildings, in the… Read more »
I fall firmly on the “meh” side in non-competitive games, or in games where it is literally just cosmetics.
Where the game has a strong PvP element and that element has strong long-lasting consequences for failure, pay to advance in game in even the slightest fashion will drive me away from that game.
The game that tests this limit for me: GTA Online.
The only reason it works for me is thanks to passive mode. When there would be consequences for dying, I can enable passive mode to prevent being killed.
This comic could not have been timed more perfectly, as I was literally just discussing this with some people a few hours ago and this was exactly my point.
Thanks boss, you’re still awesome. 😀
I’m a little strange when it comes to multi player games that are free to play w/micro-transactions. I see it as a good thing. It encourages the developer to update his product consistently and it encourages players to support the game in a way that benefits them.
That’s fair, but PUnk Bat isn’t a free to play game. It costs $30.
This game isn’t free to play, it costs $30.
Also it’s in Early Access and paid loot boxes is what the developer was working on instead of finishing the game.
Personally, the only issue I have with this is that PU himself clearly and publicly previously stated that the game will have no mictrotransactions until the game’s release.
I’m firmly in the “meh” pile on this particular inclusion of crates for several reasons as well, but on principle, it is quite wrong and damaging to his reputation, and by extent, to the game he put his own name on.
I would say that I do not care, but I invested myself into playing Nosgoth before it closed and while many skins were pretty much ones you could buy, some of them offered good thematic camo in certain environments. I know what I am talking about, since I favored playing the flyers and ambush type units.
*Puts fluttershy in the tree outfit* Be a tree flutters :33
Wait did you just take a screenshot of the game, run it through a oil canvas filter and use it for your background?
Filters are handy tools, man, but unfortunately they haven’t invented one that can remove other players and UI from a screenshot. So, no. 😉
Typically what I do is take a screenshot from the angle I want, and then fiddle with the contrast and levels to bring out the major shapes in the scene, and then use that as my base to paint over it with brushes or pattern fills to give it that look.
Of course, this is now nothing compared to the completely unjustified banning of a player because “he disconnected from several matches of our buggy, incomplete early access game before staying in one, therefore he MUST have been stream sniping even though I myself confirm that I can’t prove he was even watching the streamer in question”
I’m detecting a pattern here…
