The corpse looks like its still there. I think we just found a dupe exploit.

Is the corpse still there, he appears after we see the arm. I assumed the body disappears otherwise they would have a lot of trouble getting rid of all the evidence whenever they are testing something

In the past we’ve seen the body disappear at the same time as he reappears

Nah, we tried that once before. It CAN happen under a certain set of circumstances. Like, if Analog loses a good deal of blood and recovers from the injury, the blood no longer registers his ownership tag, and if he dies, the blood will remain. There was a comic about this some time ago. Someone, help me out here.

Yeah, his respawn ability seems more like a time travel with location change than just a revive which normally would be at the same place he died at.

Interesting, the 14 year old kid doesn’t know Megaman Bosses (okay, if you don’t play Megaman games, this is possible) but he does know that the song was from “Top Gun” and knows the nickname of the main character is “Maverick” (after it is an FSK16 movie, at least in germany).

And either Gameboy has control over his power, when he wants to freeze someone or Ethan got lucky only touching cloth when pushing him, not freezing himself before being crushed to death.

think gameboy explained already that he has control over the power
it is also possible that he didnt recognise top kun theme, just used common slur about heroic dangerous vigilante (especially after seeing him die for him and them re-spawn)

OR…. and this is a stretch, his Dad watched Top Gun with him and they bonded over it. I mean, my kid and make similar jokes about other movies, but he has only a passing familiarity w/ megaman.

You know this really does define Ethan being a true super hero. He can’t lift tons, fly, etc. He gets hurt or dies he feels all of it.
And he did not hesitate to rescue someone in need. He knew he was going to be in agony and traded that for someone’s Life.

I won’t say that it wasn’t pretty heroic, but I doubt it was all that bad either. He respawned right away so I’m guessing he died pretty much instantly.

The wrap-up of “Turf” had Scott musing about Ethan’s mental state and possible PTSD from dying over and over, when even people with near-death experiences can be profoundly effective. To my recollection, we have previously seen Ethan stabbed through the heart (issue 1), decapitated (origin), bleed out 3 times (issue 1 through the window, origin to test respawning, and one of the slice of life strips when he is injured from his trip to GameHaven), and self-exploded (issue 2); who knows how many other times he’s respawned already. And he jumped in to take falling concrete to the head &… Read more »

Is he being heroic though? Risking your life doesn’t mean much when you know you can’t die.

Also, I’m wondering if Ethan can even age. If he died naturally from old age or whatever, would he respawn then too?

I’m pretty sure the respawned form doesn’t have the memories from the last few seconds of life the other one had. Saves the respawned one from spending three minutes screaming before it realizes its not dying.

It kinda depends. When most people experience extream pain due to massive trauma it can last hours, days or longer. With ethan its a few moments and then he’s back to normal. Kind of like ripping off a bandage vs slowly pealing it and feeling each hair yank out individually. When training a martial art you may repeatedly take hits that hurt in the moment but dont do any significant damage. Over time you get used to it and your mind disregards those non damaging impacts. you still feel it but the pain response goes away much faster as the… Read more »

It’s not a question of it being nerdy. But it’s being retro/nostalgic. I mean it’s like 30+ y/o movie. For a 14 y/o kid to know about it, is why Ethan was impressed.

I’d make an argument that since the kid calls himself “Gameboy”, he might have a frame of reference to that whole era. I mean both of those easily predate him.

Which is why I’m trying to get my oldest kid all read up on Ghostbusters, Lotr, The Matrix, Terminator, etc, before he becomes Too Cool For Me ™.

Hold up…respawning w/ equipment usually happens if you save before death…

Which typically happens in jrpgs. Which Ethan hates.

If every time he dies, his body is still there, how do people not know who he is? And wasn’t there a comic awhile back where he just kept killing himself for something? Is there just a stash of Ethan corpses somewhere? And how much could he make on the black market, selling no longer needed organs? So many questions….

Goddamn. I LOVE THIS STORY. You should be working with one of the big three. Or not, depending preference, but this is some incredibly top notch writing and visual storytelling.
To see his powers in action saving someone, plus a extra strength dose of character development, for two characters at once? This is great stuff.

Theyre going to wrap the duke in either Ethans cape or his grappling hook rope and then Sam freezes that in place. I really hope that Sam being fine with Ethan just respawning will be offset by him going into shock about it after the action is over.

The thing is: this isn’t our world, this world is filled with superpowered individuals, and one VERY common trope of super hero stories is that if a hero dies, in a few months, they’ll come back. I feel like a superhero universe where people see miraculous things daily on the streets would desensitize people: if Ethan actually died completely, yah the kid might be traumatized, but he’s not dead, and I feel like the kid could put two and two together, that Ethan can’t die permanently.

Yeah he didn’t really have the time to fully comprehend he was dead. A half moment of freaking out, then his attention is called elsewhere. It wouldn’t be a fun memory but it would be more like seeing a friend with an injury that looked really bad but was really minor. But only since he didn’t have time to think about it.

Great point, but maybe he was worried it would give too much away about his power. Sure people would know eventually, but starting out your opponents not being sure what you can do is a big advantage.
