Might serve as a lesson to X1 that revenge isn’t the answer, though I’m more hoping it is a Riddler/Batman moment, where Eugene realizes he is out of his depth and his leverage is useless once he’s revealed it.
Yeaaaah he’s a lot more powerful than he’s really giving himself credit for. Ethan too, to be honest; your tactics *really* open up when you don’t have to survive them.
It doesn’t mean he HAS to be a super, though. He has a right to live a normal life (albeit with more self-defense capabilities than most) if he wants to.
Yeah that’s true, but that doesn’t seem to be his problem. He thinks because he’s not a flying brick that there isn’t much he can do. Taylor (the girl from Worm) controls bugs. You wouldn’t think there’s much you could do with that, but she does well. If you’ve never read it, you should, its amazing.
Taylor took a biblical plague to the next level and leveraged it into punching way above her weight class. Heck she came out on top of at least one flying brick in that world with what most people thought was a very weak power when they first heard of it.
Yea, it was kind of odd, especially considering the first thing she did for her “debut” was to take out a powerhouse that had more or less single-handily repelled the Leviathan. And she also heavily displayed that she wanted to join the “heroes” side. But instead she was rebuffed and lectured, and basically dismissed, which makes absolutely no sense when you live in a world with extremely fucked up stuff like Slaughterhouse 9 and the collective Enders
Man, thanks for that suggestion. Pretty heavy blow to my productivity, but so far I’ve been really enjoying it!

I mean, Lucas is making all the right points. Ethan doesn’t have much of a stake in this other than ‘I wanna be the hero, it’s personal’.

It feels like Ethan is being pretty selfish. Why is he so dead set on him team taking down the Master? Pride? Revenge? The street cred? None of that is worth blowing up Lucas’s life. If it was just Ethan’s own identity at risk, then he would have the right to risk it (even if it was still a bad idea).

What’s really unfair about this particular page is that Ethan is functionally immortal, and Lucas *isn’t*. A lot of the consequences they’d face if their identities became known would fall much harder on Lucas than on Ethan.
You could argue otherwise. Someone powerful gets their hands on Ethan and he could be subject to an infinity of torture, experimentation or imprisonment. Lucas can at least only die once…

ROFL leave it to Ethan to pick that one point out of the speech and fixate on it to the exclusion of everything else.

Wow. not where I expected him to go. Definitely not an angle you usually hear from superheroes.

It’s not just about being able to retire. It’s the bullseye on your back. It’s there forever unless they go to the government and sign up. (If the government would take them) The Surgeon might not strike for years. Same with any punk looking for some street cred. Or some B or C level supe. It won’t end. It’s got to be terrifying for Lucas. It should be equally terrifying or worse for Ethan. Lucas can only die once. Imagine what would happen if The Surgeon got a hold of Ethan and figured out how far away Ethan respawns. He… Read more »

Lucas is making a pretty good case there. I used to think losing their anonymity wouldn’t be that big a deal, but he’s landed the last solid argument there. I take it back, it IS a big deal. Freedom is precious, and he’s especially deserving of his since he risks life and limb to save others.
ANd then of course, the nipple counterpoint just makes the serious conversation even cooler xD

Another image I will not be able to remove from my perverse mind…
Handing it off to another superhero seems like a pretty reasonable solution. There really isn’t any reason they directly have to handle it.

Theory, and just hear me out, is that we know a team up is probable with the game boy kid, the speedster, and this world’s zeke. What if Ethan and Lucas team up, send the unknown three in, while Lucas and Ethan act as if they are going after the Troll to disract eugene?
I see. I don’t really think thats whats going to happen, but I admit it would be pretty cool!

Thinking about Ethan’s eventual retirement… what happens if he dies of old age? Does he keep respawning and just relive his last few moments over an over again for eternity?
Ethan. Thank you. Thank you for being Ethan.
This storyline is true to its title.
So many wham lines. 😉
If you ever have to retire and move to maintain your secret Ethan, the South Park Cable TV company is hiring.
It’s an oft missed part of the superhero story, when you stop being a hero.
Because they’ve always got to keep the gravy train a-rolling.
Think about Watchmen.
There’s actually a whole webcomic that a friend of mine does devoted to that very idea. Superfogeys.
Well, this confirms that Eugene will either be dead or get his memory wiped at some point in the not-too-distant future.
It’s obvious, Zeke will kill/ coma him
Might serve as a lesson to X1 that revenge isn’t the answer, though I’m more hoping it is a Riddler/Batman moment, where Eugene realizes he is out of his depth and his leverage is useless once he’s revealed it.
Or another superhero with (conveniently obscure) magic abilities will wipe out that memory of everyone’s else mind
Sensitive argument by Lucas in my opinion. They are Vigilantes, not Heroes. So yeah, if he wanna live normal someday he needs his anonymity.
Lucas needs to read Worm by Wildbow. He has an incredibly powerful ability.

I don’t really think the robot counts as someone ‘unknown’ to eugene though 😀
I was considering that eugene doesn’t know who the bot is now, someone who is free and can consciously think for itself.
I see. I don’t really think thats whats going to happen, but I admit it would be pretty cool!
