Thats hardly fair, after all Ethan is the one that can be reanimated after Prime gets to the bottom of the list of ground rules.

I do sometimes wonder if Ethan is ever going to develop a secondary mutation that enables other cheat codes to be used.

Not sure why him saying that Lucas takes more risks than him going out there made me think of that.

If anything, it’ll be Lucas (aka D Pad) that discovers a cheat code. He already has his 4 directions, that leaves him two buttons short of the Konami code…

I dunno, Ethan has unlimited lives via his respawn, he could have some fun with infinite ammo, maybe his gamepad batarangs could respawn in his utility belt or hand, I know Scott would be super happy about that. I would view the difference in cheat codes being Lucas has direction/button inputs, maybe he starts learning martial arts combos (down, quarter forward, forward, B, Hadoken) that sort of thing. Lucas has the movements. Ethan on the otherhand has the effects. Level Select? He can now teleport to specific locations. Infinite ammo? His thrown ‘ammunition’ becomes infinite. Maybe one or both will… Read more »

Three buttons short of the Konami code is still four buttons closer than any of the rest of us.

‘Pause’ is already covered, though the less Gameboy gets involved in this the better.

Despite the way he expressed it, Ethan went for the responsible solution. What I love about this comic is that while it’s the logical and responsible thing to do (and clearly taking Lucas’ opinion and well being into account), Ethan still has to be “Ethan” about it, true to his character!

Speaking of being true to character, I wonder if the Master isn’t just a cat’s paw and the true villain in the piece isn’t Scott? He may very well have wanted to destroy Zeke not because he is a threat to humanity but rather because if he is out of the Master’s control he is a threat to the Linux revolution…

Now that would be a proper plot twist. However, knowing Scott’s backstory I doubt it to be the case here.

But that got me thinking… Scott? Close but not quite… it has to be that creepy little penguin of his! We have not seen him in the reboot. He could be some genetic experiment gone wrong. A super evil highly intelligent penguin that escaped from some random laboratory and his now pulling the strings from the shadows. Also the Master is pure bluff and bluster, in reality it’s the penguin who created Zeke and actually programmed him to hate humans. But as he is a prototype, he did not account for him to actually develop free will and turn to… Read more »

Sorry Tim, for spoiling the big reveal. But for what it’s worth, you had us properly fooled for a while. Did not see this coming!

Based on Scott’s reaction to zeke. I find it more likely that the penguin was an AI.

While I would not be surprised if Ted is present to be involved in the Master’s shenanigans, Tim has said that there is Ted is not relevant to Scott’s story, and may not exist period in this timeline.

Please no. It would be a twist, yes, but an utterly terrible one. That’s the kind of twist you’d get from taking blind tosses at a dartboard to determine what happens instead of actually trying to write a coherent story. Plot twists like that only work if they fit with the existing narrative. Either to fill in gaps (and possibly give new context), or to logically explain previous (unusual) actions. That’s simply not the case here. On the contrary, Tim’s done an excellent job explaining Scotts (and other’s) actions and motivations from their current position. Him suddenly turning out to… Read more »

Oof. Looks like I owe Scott an apology. Well done though on writing these characters in such a way that there’s a subtlety there which can give us room to theorize and have fun with ‘what if’ scenarios

No, it’s Dr Eldritch. Who has to keep Prime busy so Ethan and Lucas can follow the breadcrumbs that Eugene is leaving.

This might be crazy, but I think Cap Prime is behind all this. You know, to thin competition.

We’ve seen nothing to suggest that. She’s already Captain Prime – she’s basically got the highest tier of legal superhero-ness that she would want, and she is a very dedicated public servant. There could be an elaborate corruption scheme going on here, but it’s not to thin out “competing” heroes and there’s no evidence implying that.

There was that one comic where Prime was talking to someone, and she got angry when the two were reported onn the scene

She wasn’t talking to anyone, she was listening in on a police scanner. She’s angry there’s new superheroes on her “turf” to take the spotlight from her.

So, whether it’s jealousy or ‘thinning the competition’, she has something against them

Has it been discussed about a limit on the amount of lives Ethan has in the comic yet?

He said ‘infinite continues’

Ethan doesn’t actually know for certain that he has infinite continues, though. he’s made that guess based on the fact that he continues to respawn after he dies.

Who wants to bet Captain Prime says “Look, I get that this guy is a big deal for you, but he’s a big fish in a very small pond. I’ll have someone take a look in and we’ll keep the villain’s record on file, but you two seem perfectly capable of taking care of him. Do you want some chips and weapon upgrades before you head back?”

Based on this:

Specifically the last panel, I don’t think Captain Prime will be too eager to help the boys out.
